June Bus anyone?!

Barefootcontessa84 · 02/05/2016 22:59

Hi all

I thought I'd start the June bus as I'm getting impatient!

I'm 31 (for a bit longer anyway), TTC#1. DH and I agreed to start TTC in May, but won't be ovulating till about the 24th. ETD 8th June! Feeling terrified and excited at the same time.

Join me if you will! Smile

Hi FG, I tracked my cycle for six months with ovulation kits and charting. I wasn't ovulating until day 19 (day 14 is more the average). I was getting my period sometimes as early as day 28 up to 30 so I wasn't getting two weeks after ovulation either.

I've had bloods done, awaiting those results and I'm getting progesterone levels checked after ovulation to see if low progesterone is causing a short luteal phase. My GP was keen to start me on the Clomid given I am 36 and I'd six months of fairly constant information on the timing of things. I'd say if I was younger she would have left me for a while because DD is only 1 and I've read your system might take 18 months to come back to normal after giving birth. Sadly breastfeeding didn't work for dd and I so I never had that impacting on my cycles but I have read it does affect your periods for a good while.

Maybe start keeping a simple cycle chart, you can get those ovulation predictor kits fairly reasonable in some of the discount shops, the Clearblue ones are pretty expensive. It might give you an idea of when you are getting the LH surge that detects ovulation is imminent.

FriendlyGhost · 18/05/2016 17:41

Thank you very much Julia. That's really useful. I'll definitely start taking note of things so I've got the information in case I need to go to the gp. I hadn't even considered that! I think he'll be helpful if I want to get things moving. He described me as an 'older mother' and said I shouldn't leave things too long when I spoke to him about trying with dd. I was 31-the man clearly has a death wish!

Julia2016 · 18/05/2016 18:13

Well apparently I'm a geriatric in the maternity world 😁😁😁

Sunshineface123 · 18/05/2016 19:31

Julia2016 what are the problems with having a short luteul phase? I often don't ov till day 18 and come on 28/29/30 but once was 34. Didn't know that wasn't ok!! Ps 36 is still a spring chicken!

Barefootcontessa84 · 18/05/2016 19:32

lilysnape I've been taking pregnacare conception. Not cheap but they have the right amounts of things in them!

Lilysnape I'm taking the pregnacare ones- when I remember and trying to drinks lots of water, not great at that either!

JessJR23 · 18/05/2016 20:17

Can I also ask about late ovulation? I ovulate on day 17 but I have short cycles alternating between 24 and 26 days. Could this be causing a problem? My son is 28 months now and I have been off the pill for 8 months, actively trying for 5 months, this is the 3rd month of tracking ovulation with sticks.

Tryingtowait · 18/05/2016 20:44

Hi Jess, if you definitely ovulate on day 17 then you have a short lutuel phase which means it can be more difficult to get pregnant. I've heard people on here taking Angus cactus to lengthen it. I'm not an expert on that though.

Cd 12 here and started dtd every other day. On a 12 hour shift tomorrow though so doubt I'll be up for it when I get home!

LidikaLikes · 18/05/2016 21:23

Re short luteal phase: it takes 12 days for implantation to happen and for hormones to change. Having short amount of days in between ovulation and period starting means that your body doesn't have enough time for this to happen.

Julia2016 · 18/05/2016 21:41

From my limited understanding a short luteal phase doesn't give you enough time after ovulation to be ready for an egg to implant. Your body is getting ready for a period. One of the causes is low progesterone, that's why they check around cd21 to see your levels through a blood test. Late ovulation can also shorten your luteal phase and an older egg isn't the best.

Clomid helps to bring ovulation earlier so that might sort it or I may need progesterone.

I also started Vitamin B Complex, the high dose of B6 helps progesterone levels.

Again this is just what I have learned so far, I'm no expert..

Sunshineface123 · 18/05/2016 22:56

Oh ok that's interesting, might mention that to my doctor if this month isn't successful again, thanks for the info x

everdene · 19/05/2016 08:22

My fw opens tonight Wink

That said, DH is still stressed so probably not in the Dtd mood. I can't find my bbt thermometer so haven't tracked temps since the weekend.

Wibblewobble100 · 19/05/2016 10:17

Morning folks. Interesting chat about short luteal phase.... I had no idea!
so I've started tracking temps and I'm going to get some opks. At the moment I'm just using a standard in the mouth digital thermometer when I wake up.... I've had 36.3,36.2,36.3.... Question is, is one decimal place accurate enough (Ovia has space for 2)and how much dip and rise do you see when ovulating? Do I need to buy a special TTC thermometer?
I'm CD 11 today... dTD last night but on night shift for the next 4😟. Good luck to all those entering FW!

Writerwannabe83 · 19/05/2016 10:49

sunshine - there is a group on here of women with short Luteal phases trying to conceive. I think it's a long running thread (much like the buses) where they all chat about how they deal with it etc. If you look at the topics in the Conception forum you should see it.

I'm entering my fertile week tomorrow with Ovia predicting ovulation at about the 25th. However, I ovulated on CD16 last month which would put ovulation date as being on the 21st. I've only had two cycles since my miscarriage so I can't really things are regular yet hence discrepancy in dates.

Due to the lead up of it all I started taking OPKs three days ago, the first day's was negative, yesterday's was faint and then today's line is a bit darker.

I'm planning on DTD tonight but after an horrendous night with my 2y/o last night I think I may be too exhausted Sad

SoozC · 19/05/2016 12:44

Hi all, I'd like to join. Got af this morning so onto next cycle! I'm 34, DP is 47, cycle #5, ttc #1. My LP is typically 12 days (I track with FF and Ovia) so might try the cactus thing! I already take conception pills for folic acid, b12 etc.

FriendlyGhost · 19/05/2016 13:40

Welcome Sooz.
I've just been out to buy a b vitamin complex as I also read b6 can help progesterone levels. I've done a few online ovulation calculators so as long as I'm ovulating normally I should ovulate next Friday. I know when I got pregnant with dd we Dtd on cd 17 and that ties in with my current predicted ovulation dates. Cd 17 is next Friday so I'll be pestering DH a lot around then!

carrotcakecupcake · 19/05/2016 13:56

Hi everyone, been lurking for a bit but ready to the join the bus! I'm 35, TTC #2 (DS is 2.5yo), cycle #1. If I've got my dates right I'm in my FW now and ETD is June 6th! This is my first cycle off the pill, and last time we conceived on our first try so hoping this time things go as smoothly, but trying not to get my hopes up.

Sunshineface123 · 19/05/2016 17:50

Thanks Writer I'll check that out!
Hi cupcake!

MizzisDee · 19/05/2016 18:55

First timer here.
32, ttc #1
On cycle 3, first one there wasn't much active trying though (but that's changed now...). FW is in time for the bank holiday weekend and we have no plans to go anywhere. ETD June 10th.

Barefootcontessa84 · 19/05/2016 19:19

Welcome newcomers! If I get a chance this evening, I'll try and collate all our stats so we can keep organised!

I'm new to ttc, please can I get on your bus?
I have one ds and I think my first visit from af is here. Been dtd for the last year (well more like 9 months) but this is my first af in 13months so i feel like I can actually start ttc properly if that makes sense.
I'm 27
Ds is 13months
Cycle 1
No idea on cycle lengths as it's been about 7 maybe 8 years since I had a period (good old marina coil and then breastfeeding lol)

Hidingthefear · 19/05/2016 21:39
