Short Luteal Phase

mascaraisamust · 05/07/2015 22:57

So after 6 months of ttc I've worked out I've got a short luteal phase of 9 days, however it could be even less. I get a positive opk on day 19 and 9 days later AF appears. I'm fearing it could be less that 9 days if I ovulate 24-36 hours after a postive opk. No suprises that there hasn't been a bfp yet. I'm thinking this is my obstacle. Seems I've tried everything else. Do I go to my GP? Is there any point? On preconception vitamins with b6 in and have been in them for three months and no changes. Also AF is really painful every month, wondering if there is more to this. Any ideas? Or anyone experienced/ing similar?

Hi everyone, is it okay if I join here?

I'm currently on cycle 6 and started spotting today at 10DPO. I've been on herbs to help control my cystic acne, was on Angus Castus but changed my herbs this cycle since my Cd21 bloods came back as all fine last cycle. My LP was up to 15-16 days last cycle and I'm now thinking it was the Angus Castus, which I stopped taking at the beginning of this cycle, hence the spotting.

I'm really confused. My blood work was great, progesterone levels were 60 at 7DPO, so does my progesterone just drop suddenly? Spoke to a GP over the phone and she was so unhelpful and even asked me what pill I was on Hmm

I'm starting to get really worried even though it's only been 6 months, and I have zero faith in my GP, so I don't know what to do and I'm starting to feel quite hopeless Sad

smellsofelderberries · 15/09/2015 21:23

And also, I tend to ovulate slightly late. On the Angus Castus it was around CD20, but this cycle it was CD17 and it felt stronger. I've always had good EWCM but this cycle seemed just seemed much more efficient.

mascaraisamust · 15/09/2015 21:39

Hi smells of course you can join Smile

You pg levels are great, they will drop dramatically if you don't conceive though. Maybe you're just not catching that egg. Are you using opks? I'm guessing you probably are. Have you tried temping? Ive heard Angus cactus can do some strange things.

Sunshinegirl2015 · 15/09/2015 21:48

Hi smells!

Agree with Mascara about temping. You're not out yet. I had some spotting today (11dpo) and yesterday (10dpo) and my temps dropped for five days in a row before going up again this morning. Our bodies can do strange things.

Good luck!

Mascara where do you buy pre seed? I use conceive plus from lloyds pharmacy. I'd get some more as I feel like so long as I'm doing all I can my mind is more at ease x

smellsofelderberries · 15/09/2015 22:03

Thanks ladies. I have temped in the past but I found to too stressful to do every month (anxiety disorder over here yaaaay), but also use OPKs and I O the second day of + OPKs (this happened when I was temping and also based on CM and CP). The past two months we have timed it for -4, -2, -1, day of ovulation and day after and still nothing. The months before that we managed to do it every other day until O. So, yes, I would assume we are catching the egg.

I'm going to try and get in to see my herbalist/reflexologist on Thursday and see what she says. Should I be making an appointment with my GP? I'm assuming they won't want to know for another 6 months?

Thanks so much for the welcome. Having a really down evening since I wasn't expecting my period until Saturday!

mascaraisamust · 15/09/2015 22:27

Smells I thought I was timing perfectly every month and never got a bfp (days up to and day of and day after ovulation) but when I looked I my app I noticed i never carried on dtd after ovulation really. I dtd for three days after my postive opk and got the bfp. So keep going!
Going to your gp won't do any harm if you have questions.

Think AF has arrived...

Annoyingly woke up 2hrs before I usually take my temp to use the loo so took bbt then and it had dropped by 0.16C and is still above my cover line. I thought it was meant to drop by at least 0.2 for AF to arrive?

Had mild cramp and some blood when I wiped so thought I'd started.

Took a hpt and BFN.

Went back to sleep and when my alarm went off I took temp again even though it was only 2hrs later and it was higher than the first.

There's still some blood and it's red in colour but there's not much and I have only mild cramp.

For me it's unusual as I'm often heavy and get bad pain (GP prescribed me codeine) so I think AF's here. Could it be the EPO helped regulate my cycle? If I am on then I had an 11day LP which is my longest!

Anyway think I'm out for this month.

smellsofelderberries · 16/09/2015 08:22

Sorry you're out sunshine Cake that really really sucks. What cycle is this for you?

Sunshinegirl2015 · 16/09/2015 08:37

Thanks smells

Started TTC at new year so this is now 9th cycle although DH likes to say it's the 7th as one month I had thrush at ovulation so we couldn't DTD and the first month I had no idea about CM, BBT etc and we missed the window.

Have vaginal ultrasound scan tomorrow which was booked in after I ended up in A&E one month with a particularly painful AF and was referred to a gynaecologist. Which is why it feels odd for me to have AF but no pain.

On to next month! You still going to your reflexologist tomorrow?

smellsofelderberries · 16/09/2015 09:37

Gosh, it's all so frustrating isn't it? What do they think is causing your painful periods?

Going to see her Saturday as she's not in tomorrow. She's wonderful and really positive. Just trying to not get too stressed about it right now but it's hard because so many of the statistics say that the first 6 months is when the majority of people will fall pregnant Confused I really wish I didn't know that.

But yes, on to the next month! The sex was fantastic for us last cycle so I am looking forward to a bit more of that! Grin

Sunshinegirl2015 · 16/09/2015 10:04

They don't know. My mum had endo and my sister has had ovarian cysts but according to GP that's not hereditary. Scan is to check for cysts I think. I was put on the pill as a teenager to help with the pain which it did but obviously can't stay on pill forever. Get the results next week so will update you. Fine to have scan when AF is visiting but can't imagine it'll be pleasant for me or them haha!

Went loo about half hour ago and bleeding is scarce and more brown than red. So confused and want it to mean I still have a chance. Guess I'll see what happens tomorrow.

If it is AF then I extended my luteal phase and have a lighter less painful flow. All I can put it down to is the evening primrose oil.

I might have to book in for some reflexology. Heard it's good to have before ovulation as it can stimulate the reproductive organs. Want to try acupuncture too as never had it. Yes bring on more BDing!

Short Luteal Phase
mascaraisamust · 16/09/2015 17:01

Ahh Sunshine, I was convinced this was your month Sad until AF appears in force though don't count yourself out. Fingers crossed for you. Your luteal phase has had quite an increase though which is great.

At least your off to get some tests done now. At least you can start to rule things out. I'm annoyed for you.

I've just booked a private appointment for the start of October, not told DH yet or the cost Confused

Opk is now disappearing. Never got a positive but it was nearly positive yesterday so I could be ovulating now?!

OP posts:
Sunshinegirl2015 · 16/09/2015 21:53

Ahh me too and when I was a day late I got so excited.

Yeah LP has which is great - feel like I should be kicked off this thread now haha.

Oh that's good - how much will it be and is it just for a consultation?

Are you temping? Go DTD and good luck!

mrsmugoo · 17/09/2015 07:26

Got a solid smiley today and it's only cd15 - amazing! Will be taking your advice mascara and carrying on dtd for a few more days anyway and starting my pessaries from tomorrow I think (need to check the instructions!)

I meant to say further up that I was advised to stop doing 5:2 diet that I'd been doing earlier in the year. I thought it was a healthy way to lose my baby weight but doctor wasn't keen so I've stopped that (lost a decent 28lb though!) He advised light exercise so I'm doing Pilates and swimming now and meditation in the evening to help relax - you tube has loads of lovely guided meditations.

I've also cut out dairy from my diet from 2 weeks ago. Continuing with vit b complex & folic as supps.

smellsofelderberries · 17/09/2015 08:16

Hooray Mugoo! That's exciting! Hopefully this is your month!

Sunshine girl, that's a really good way to look at it. That's what I was like last cycle too, period arrived 15/16DPO and I was just glad to be having a strong LP with no spotting!

My spotting has stopped and I'm at 12DPO now so looks like I joined this thread prematurely. Really sorry ladies, good luck to you all!!

Sunshinegirl2015 · 17/09/2015 11:51

CD2 and had my pelvic transvaginal ultrasound scan. Woman who did it said my uterus and ovaries look fine but there was a lot of fluid in my pelvis (they made me go loo before) which she's going to flag to my GP.

I'm seeing the GP next week for the results. Was told it can't detect endometriosis but the fluid could point to that or could be something else.

Smear test came back all clear.

Quick google about fluid in the pelvis and I can't really find much so if anyone knows more please share!

Will update when I know the results!

Sunshinegirl2015 · 17/09/2015 16:51

Mascara I can't remember what you said about vitamin B complex?

I bought some today and was thinking of taking it with folic acid, vitamin c and evening primrose oil (EPO for first part of cycle) instead of pregnacare conception multivitamins which I've been taking since January.

Do you take B complex for the whole cycle?

I also got vitamin C as apparently studies have been done which show women who took vitamin c were more likely to conceive. The pregnacare ones have vitamin c but only have 113% RDA. I say only - the vitamin c tablets in the supermarket had 1250%!!!!

mascaraisamust · 17/09/2015 17:35

Sunshine I took vitamin C 50mg when I got my BFP as well as B complex, I took both the whole cycle. I stopped B complex when I got my bfp though and I'm not sure if that was the right thing to do looking back...

mrs any tips on what I should say at the private appointment?!

OP posts:
Sunshinegirl2015 · 17/09/2015 19:17

Ok I've started taking vitamin c tablets with the pregnacare. Bought 200mg so I now take 263% RDA a day. Seeing GP next week to discuss scan results so may mention b complex and see what she says. Thanks!

When is your private appointment? X

mascaraisamust · 17/09/2015 19:58

Not until 5th oct, I can have it sooner but I need pay day! And wanted to see the gp on the 30th first...
