Short Luteal Phase

mascaraisamust · 05/07/2015 22:57

So after 6 months of ttc I've worked out I've got a short luteal phase of 9 days, however it could be even less. I get a positive opk on day 19 and 9 days later AF appears. I'm fearing it could be less that 9 days if I ovulate 24-36 hours after a postive opk. No suprises that there hasn't been a bfp yet. I'm thinking this is my obstacle. Seems I've tried everything else. Do I go to my GP? Is there any point? On preconception vitamins with b6 in and have been in them for three months and no changes. Also AF is really painful every month, wondering if there is more to this. Any ideas? Or anyone experienced/ing similar?

I deleted my ovia in a huff too kitty, restarted it now though.

Thanks mascara. I don't think I'll restart using it. I prefer fertility friend but I do need the data from it to prove my LP has never been longer than 11 days since my tfmr excepting the month I had my CP.

mascaraisamust · 13/09/2015 10:50

Let us know how it goes Kitty.

I think I'm going to see my gp one last time as I'm considering getting a private consultation now.

How's everyone getting on? Sunshine AF staying away? X

Sunshine I didn't see your post! Try not to stress out and back away from Google! It will either happen or it won't. Google hasn't got the answer. A few more days and you'll know for sure Smile

Dull aches are common, the symptoms for AF and a bfp are too alike! Fingers crossed for you x

Thanks Mascara just had a moment feel better today no cramps. AF due tomorrow or Tuesday. Today is 9dpo and bfn and I know it's too early to test but couldn't resist. I've turned in to a crazy woman!

How are you feeling? Hope everyone has had a good weekend x

flymo79 · 14/09/2015 09:30

still lurking, so sorry to hear your story kitty... hoping that this is the start of something positive for you. Am determined to be chilled this month, managed to stay away from google/mn for a week or so while I rode out af, now I'm back in the saddle it's difficult not to try to seek solace from the charting/mn-ing/googling, but my friend keeps telling me that nothing is going to give me a bfp except the right time! frustrated that we are on cycle four, but aware it could be a much longer journey and trying to remember it's a marathon not a sprint! we are past the time it took us to conceive dd1...

mascaraisamust · 14/09/2015 16:13

Sunshine has AF kept away? Fingers crossed it has!

Flymo you are right. Since the emc I am far more chilled, bizarrely. No amount of worrying/being extra careful will change a thing!!

Read so much about progesterone over the last few days though and how people find it so difficult to get a prescription in this country. Seriously looking into going private as if (when) I get a BFP again I don't think I'll be able to keep calm knowing that my levels possibly won't sustain the pregnancy (I know I've sort of self diagnosed here but hey)!

Booked to see the gp in a few weeks time and taking my 'gynae' nurse let appointment (??) with me as I'm not sure what that even means! I'm hoping the GP will take pity as it's the same one who told me to 'see how I get on with this pregnancy' before I make demands like wanting progesterone. Don't want to say 'told you so'...

All good here, still awaiting AF but playing it all very casual in the hope it'll never turn up x

Hi ladies - been on holiday and my phone app has stopped working so I've not posted for ages!

I picked up my private prescription of cyclogest today. It's cd12 and a circle in the opk (of course, who am I kidding?!) and I also started temping today in the run up to ov which should be around the weekend.

Hope everyone is well, I'll read back and catch up when I can.

mrsmugoo · 14/09/2015 22:24

Oh mascara, so sore to hear of your mc :(

I've been prescribed progesterone for the first 12 weeks of any pregnancy, it's a huge relief to me!

Sunshinegirl2015 · 14/09/2015 22:28

Thanks Mascara for asking. She's kept away so far. 10DPO today but I think she may arrive tomorrow as temp has been dropping and tonight I have pink spotting. I don't usually get spotting have only had it once before and that was the time I ended up in A&E so have got the codeine the GP prescribed me by the bed. Until she shows though I'm still hopeful but BFN today. Usual luteal phase is 9/10days.

Would you buy a progesterone cream online? Seems silly they wouldn't prescribe something if it could help. Hopefully doctor is more helpful this time.

Fx for you mrs - what does cyclogest do?

Let us know about Gp. I have my vaginal ultrasound scan in a few days and then appointment to to get the results the week after so will let you know how I get on.

Short Luteal Phase
mrsmugoo · 14/09/2015 23:01

It's progesterone in a pessary. I'll be taking it for 2 weeks after ovulation to artificially extend my luteal phase, which was only averaging 7 days. And then continue for 12 weeks I get a bfp.

I get to poas after the two weeks of taking it - so I can relax for my tww now as I know for sure I'll get my answer one way or another on that day and no sooner!

mrsmugoo · 14/09/2015 23:04

If you have a few hundred quid in savings or on a credit card I would recommend anyone with this issue just going private and sorting it out then and there with no fuss! the difference in my treatment was just huge - private doctors actually want to help you, they aren't mentally prioritising you and working out how to fob you off so you don't impact on their budgets!

Sunshinegirl2015 · 15/09/2015 07:06

Whoah past my usual 9/10 day luteal phase.

Currently on 11DPO and my temp went up this morning by 0.13C when I was expecting it to go down and for AF to arrive.

Have had no more spotting since last night either which was only when I wiped and was a very small amount of light pink.

No cramps (touch wood) but BFN this morning.

Not getting too hopeful yet but not sure what could've caused LP to lengthen.

mrsmugoo · 15/09/2015 08:36

Day 13 and a slightly unexpected but very welcome flashing smiley this morning. DH instructed to wake me up for dtd when he gets in from working late tonight!

I almost peed on my bbt thermometer this morning I was so tired #ttcproblems

Sunshinegirl2015 · 15/09/2015 08:59

That's great news good luck Mrs - this could be the month. Fx x

sandy30 · 15/09/2015 15:33

Hi Sharyn, first time they were 28, so not quite the magic 30, but the GP felt we were just a day or two out on measuring. Second time they were 14 :(. Too high to not have ovulated at all, but way off what I needed and I was sure on the timing WRT ovulation.

Has anyone been prescribed progesterone in Scotland? That's where I am. Although I got a GP referral, the consultant I saw was private (I couldn't bear to wait) and he still wouldn't even entertain the idea of progesterone supplements. So frustrating!

mascaraisamust · 15/09/2015 18:38

Ah mrs, I am so annoyed I wasn't given pregesterone and of course wondering whether it may have caused the micarriage. I'm desperately trying to find a private gp to help me. I don't want to get another bfp and be paranoid about it Sad Sandy this is what I mean, if they could give me a genuine reason to why I could have it fair enough but to just tell someone to 'see what happens' is madness

On a lighter note (rant over, move on)...sunshine I think this is your month, get a FRER!

Mrs, everything crossed for you! Thanks for the tips!

My opk is getting darker Smile

Sunshinegirl2015 · 15/09/2015 18:45

Mascara I'd be like you trying to find a private GP. You don't need that kind of worry and stress when your expecting.

I hope so. Just woke up from a three hour nap (day off today) I was so tired. Took my temp when I woke up as saw it had been three hours and it was higher than this morning but not sure if it counts. Fx otherwise I'll be joining the ttc for 10months thread.

Sorry Sandy I don't know much about Scottish health care but is there another doctor you can see at the surgery?

mascaraisamust · 15/09/2015 19:15

Sunshine it'll be 10 months for me too Confused after this month, think I will ovulate in the next few days though, I know they said wait until AF to try but we are seeing what happens.

It's still very early to test for you but a FRER had the faintest line on it when I did mine. Fingers crossed for you x

OP posts:
Sunshinegirl2015 · 15/09/2015 19:23

I really do have my fingers crossed for you. We can join the 10month thread together if we don't get BFPs

Going to see what temp does tomorrow morning. No cramps what so ever and no backache just feel tired but that's all. Although I often feel tired before AF so that doesn't nessecarily mean anything.

Got my smear test results today and all is fine. Scan at the end of the week still to come.

All I did differently this month was take evening primrose oil up until ovulation and I took robitussin cough syrup around ovulation to loosen CM. maybe the EPO lengthened my LP (off to google that now).

mascaraisamust · 15/09/2015 19:37

Think CM does make a difference! I Don't know whether to get some more preseed x
