Short Luteal Phase

mascaraisamust · 05/07/2015 22:57

So after 6 months of ttc I've worked out I've got a short luteal phase of 9 days, however it could be even less. I get a positive opk on day 19 and 9 days later AF appears. I'm fearing it could be less that 9 days if I ovulate 24-36 hours after a postive opk. No suprises that there hasn't been a bfp yet. I'm thinking this is my obstacle. Seems I've tried everything else. Do I go to my GP? Is there any point? On preconception vitamins with b6 in and have been in them for three months and no changes. Also AF is really painful every month, wondering if there is more to this. Any ideas? Or anyone experienced/ing similar?

I'm also going back to basics sunshine. In fact I'm just going to take folic acid from now on. I've read alsorts over the last few days about vitamins so I'm going to get my sources from food from now on I think. Not sure how long/short my cycles will be now after this so I want to cut it back and see what my body will do naturally.

I've just told my best friend as I can't face it any longer lying about not drinking, excuses for not going out/being a misery.

I will have to look into acupuncture, I'd also heard that reflexology is meant to help though again I have absolutely no idea how.

We have the same weather here too beansprout, it's been raining heavy all through the night, might try to drag DH out for a bit of retail therapy xx

sunshinegirl12 · 31/08/2015 09:20

Ah Mascara, it must be a bit of a relief to have someone else close to you who you can confide in. How are you feeling today?

Theres so many different things online about miracle vitamins etc that have made people conceive after years of trying, its hard not to rush out and buy the lot isnt it. Confused xx

mascaraisamust · 31/08/2015 09:43

DH says he still wants his male preconception vitamins though! Not sure you can buy them separately.

She had a little cry for me. Said all the right things which we all know but don't want to hear - it's common/at least you can get pregnant/maybe it wasnt your time etc. Feel relieved i don't have to make excuses though.

I'm got a head cold today, feel rubbish. Pouring down here too. I wouldn't mind dragging myself out to some shops if I feel a bit better.

Mascara, my OH takes Wellman Conception Reproduction & Fertility vitamins from Boots. Not sure if they do a female or combined equivalent but you can definitely buy the 'his' vitamins seperatley.
I'm glad you confided in your friend xx

mascaraisamust · 31/08/2015 10:51

Thanks shary I'll get some of those today then. Any more rises?

Another 0.1 degrees today Mascara so hopefully that confirms what the OPKs indicated & I've ovulated. I use the fertility friend app & the graph updated this morning saying 3dpo so fx.
Those vitamins were on 3 for 2 when I bought them x

mascaraisamust · 31/08/2015 11:15

That's good news Shary! Now to keep yourself busy for the tww. So not looking forward to that again.

So sorry mascara, how horrid. Hope you get your bfp really soon. Xxxx

flymo79 · 31/08/2015 20:04

Really confused, taking b vits this month seems to have delayed ov... Anyone else had this?

sunshinegirl12 · 31/08/2015 20:12

Flymo I had exactly the same thing, I stopped them and eventually ovulated, but it made my luteal phase shorter than usual too. What cycle day are you on and when should you have ovulated? X

mascaraisamust · 31/08/2015 20:34

Thanks Flymo.

I think I ovulated late on them too which would explain the late bfp. I reckon I was 3/4 days late to ovulate. Thoigh for the BFP so it's odd.

thanks for replying gals, interesting to hear you both had delayed ov. I am on cd 26, I use the Glow app to track ov and have started charting bbt this month but very confused as it's so up and down! I def started getting a temp rise on cd 23, before that it was literally up one day, down the next for about a week. I didn't get a +ve on an opk at all this month though... that is why I'm finding it a bit weird! The week I usually get a +ve I only had very very faint (as in hardly visible) lines, so assumed I'd missed or it hadn't happened yet, the lh surge was either receding or hadn't happened. We dtd like mad leading up to cd 18 but then for various reasons (dh put his back out!!) we could no longer get on it... think this month is deffo out for me but am interested in these b-vits and what they're doing!!
BTW my app keeps saying I'm 7 dpo and has just decided for itself that ovulation was on cd 18... could be based on previous months I guess

flymo79 · 01/09/2015 10:32

...also does this mean you should literally only take them after you've had some sign you've ovulated, i.e. to keep ov forward but push back on lp?

sunshinegirl12 · 01/09/2015 12:08

I don't know Flymo, but after taking them I only had a very short luteal phase of about 7 days where it is usually 11, and had a much lighter period than what is normal for me, so I am scared to take them again.

I'm having one of those days where I've got myself into a right panic that it'll never happen for us, I really need to go to the Drs but as I have had to recently change my surgery I'm fairly sure they will just blame it on me being underweight and tell me to go away and gain weight before they take me seriously. I can't concentrate on my work I feel so worked up. I hate how ttc can make me feel positive one day and the next like this.

How is everyone else doing? Xx

flymo79 · 01/09/2015 16:22

oh sunshine, it's awful and I really feel for you. You never know, the doctor may be really understanding, I have friends who have v high metabolism, are skinny rakes and have had babies. I know it can feel like GPs rush you out, but if you are firm about what you want you should leave feeling listened to.
kisses for you

mascaraisamust · 01/09/2015 16:51

I'm confused too if that helps ladies. I don't know what vitamins to take anymore. I want to take B complex again as it worked but part of me doesn't want to because of the outcome and part of me thinks it was just coincidence that I got the bfp the month I took it so did it actually do anything anyway... any thoughts?

I've got to have AF first so don't know why I'm even worrying about it yet, when that will appear now is anyone's guess.

I will try ask some of our questions at the fertility appoinment for us. Any to add?

  1. Does B complex delay ovulation?
2. When should you take B complex? Throughout the cycle or after ovulation?
  1. If you take B complex should you continue with it when you get a Bfp and if so for how long?

I agree with Flymo sunshine, three of my friends recently have had babies are they are tiny. Go to your gp Sunshine with your stats to hand and be firm.

Scan tomorrow morning to get over now.

Thanks for the reassurance girls, it really does help. I'm one of those people who just can't gain weight, I've been tested for thyroid etc with no issues, and as I'm not a sickly person and seem to be ovulating ok I don't think it is the reason, but just worry that I won't get the help I need. I suppose if they did palm me off I could always pay to go private in the hope they'd take me seriously.

I really don't know about the B complex Mascara, there are reasons for and against it, maybe wait to see what the specialist says - thats a good list of questions you have prepared. I did read somewhere that one of the B vits (B6 i think) is good for morning sickness which would suggest to keep taking it after the BFP but would definitely see what the experts say first. Did you keep on with the B vits this time? How are you feeling now?

I am due to ovulate in the first week of my hol with AF due on the day we fly home. Have told DH we are going to DTD every day on hol.

Flymo, when would you be due AF then? Xx

flymo79 · 01/09/2015 19:17

Thinking of you with the scan mascara. And thanks for asking about q's for the fertility clinic, I'd love to know what they say about short LP in general, and lengthening it, if they suggest vits or if they're more about the drugs.
Would be due af on thurs. I'm on cd 26 today but app reckons af came this time last month...

mascaraisamust · 01/09/2015 20:12

I switched to pregnacare when I got my bfp. Maybe I should have kept on with the B complex instead but the quantities weren't much different so I didn't think it would matter. I was taking the Seven Seas B complex ones when TTC which have much lower dosages that the HB ones.

That's good Flymo, hope this is the month!

Sunshine the holiday sounds perfect, relax and have fun! I would love another break now, even if I've just come back Confused Still trying to shift this cold.

Hi
I started to take the Vit B Complex. I ov'd a day if two earlier but am currently convinced af is in the post. On Cd25 (7dpo) but have pains like I get just before af even though My normal cycle is 29. Maybe Vit B brought forward ov but didn't lengthen my luteal phase?!
It's very confusing and frustrating!'n ????????

flymo79 · 02/09/2015 06:02

Hi judy! Sorry you're having the same vit b confusion!
Just did my temp and My app just changed, it now thinks I ov'd two days ago!!! Am on cd 27! Wtf?????!
