Short Luteal Phase

mascaraisamust · 05/07/2015 22:57

So after 6 months of ttc I've worked out I've got a short luteal phase of 9 days, however it could be even less. I get a positive opk on day 19 and 9 days later AF appears. I'm fearing it could be less that 9 days if I ovulate 24-36 hours after a postive opk. No suprises that there hasn't been a bfp yet. I'm thinking this is my obstacle. Seems I've tried everything else. Do I go to my GP? Is there any point? On preconception vitamins with b6 in and have been in them for three months and no changes. Also AF is really painful every month, wondering if there is more to this. Any ideas? Or anyone experienced/ing similar?

Hopefully they will help, I've read such good reviews on them. I've never heard of robitussin, I will have to have a quick google in a bit. Also what does grapefruit do? I can't stand it but would try anything now. It sounds like you're being very proactive this month.

Hopefully the ultasound/smear will give you some answers. I was reading yesterday that a lot of people seem to get their BFP following their smear, maybe a coincidence but I thought it was quite interesting. Xx

Shary Evening Primrose Oil - read you take it up until ovulation and then stop as it can cause contractions which aren't good for an egg implanting. Who knows if it works but I'll try anything. I take two x 500mg tablets a day but have read you can take more. Increases cervical fluid and helps regulate hormones supposedly.

Grapefruit juice don't ask me how but is supposed to help increase cervical fluid. I like the taste though so not too bad for me.

Robitussin is a cough syrup I'm taking two teaspoons three times a day. It has an active ingredient in it which loosens mucus in the lungs and in the cervix too.

Ooh I've not heard about that stat. Smear is in six days but think I might O earlier than usual as already have cervical fluid.

It's turned into a heavy bleed so I'm now pretty certain it's not my time x

I'm so sorry Mascara xxxxx

mascaraisamust · 29/08/2015 15:28

Not had it fully confirmed medically yet but it's as heavy as a normal AF. Went to the hospital and a scan is booked for Wednesday to confirm but I just know. Feel drained.

Think I've got to wait for my real AF to appear and wait at least a full cycle now before we can go from here. Luckily I haven't cancelled my fertility appointment. Thanks for your support.

Hi Sunshine & Mascara,
Thanks for thinking of me. My temperature went up by a further 0.2 degrees. I'm hoping it's a positive sign that I've actually ovulated but I guess we'll see. Hopefully it goes up a little more tomorrow or at least maintain itself.
Mascara, sending a virtual hug your way xx

mascaraisamust · 30/08/2015 19:01

That's great news Shary. Fingers crossed for you.

How's everyone getting on?

Thanks for the welcome ladies, im pretty useless at posting regularly but I do try and follow, mascara pleased to hear you are feeling a bit better today.

Ive been ttc #1 for 15 months now and my lp averages 10 days, I went for an acupuncture session yesterday as I wanted to try something whilst waiting for nhs fertility appointment, I mentioned the short luteal phase to my acupunturist and she said do not worry at all, she has seen ladies with short lps getting pregnant, I know she is not a doctor but it was reassuring to hear!

mascaraisamust · 30/08/2015 20:23

Well Beansprout I know it can happen with a short LP now Smile just hope I can get there again...

Hope your fertility appointment comes through soon. When did you go to the gp for referral? Mine was pretty quick, it took around three weeks for the letter to come through and its on the 21st Sept. I fear they'll just send me away though with getting a bfp...

What have you tried so far Beansprout? I'm going back to B complex and vitamin C I think once things settle down.

Oh and acupuncture was something I was considering too when TTC as I felt I needed something to relax. I am going to take up yoga on an evening. I didn't know if Id be able to afford acupuncture. Sounds interesting though.

OP posts:
Beansprout30 · 30/08/2015 20:38

You will get there again for sure Smile

We saw gp end of june and I had to make contact with hospital who advised id get an appointment sent through..fast forward to end of july and not heard anything, I know they are slow but that's ridiculous so after calling and speaking to 5 different people I finally got through to the right person and apparently I was supposed to recieve a questionaire first which hadn't been sent Angry this is now on it's way to me so hopefully will get an appointment soon when I send it back!

I guess I should have chased it up sooner, I'm really not looking forward to further investigations and really dont want to accept we might need medical assistance Sad

ive tried B complex which did add a day to lp but also started delaying ovulation, also tried soy isoflavones which brought ovulation forward but didnt change lp, now im just sticking with folic acid and hoping (praying!) it will happen soon.

I cant imagine how it must feel to get a bfp and then have it taken away Sad

Beansprout30 · 30/08/2015 20:44

The acupuncture has certainly calmed me down, it's a bizarre feeling and I didn't realise how stroppy and irritable I could get but from the minute I left the session I just felt so calm, dh has noticed too. I hope it lasts! Im having asecond session on Saturday and will give it 5-6 goes and see if it helps. It is pricey but im willing to stick with it.

Ive always wanted to do yoga, I tried a beginners session from an app I downloaded but I think I should have gone to a class instead

mascaraisamust · 30/08/2015 21:09

You shouldnt have to chase it. I had no questionnaires, fingers crossed you get a letter soon!

It was gutting but as least it happened now rather than be told at the scan. I think in the back of my mind I knew something wasn't right as I had a lack of symptoms.

I just hope I don't get the 'well you can obviously get pregnant so let's see how the next one goes'

Just Wednesday's scan now.

I think you can overdo it on all the vitamins and confuse things. I think I will keep it pretty basic too and hopefully I'll ovulate after my first AF (although I hear it can be delayed for a while, here's to hoping it isn't)...

OP posts:
mascaraisamust · 30/08/2015 21:15

Sorry didn't see your second post.

Yeah I'd be doing yoga as a class, not sure I'd be very good on my own! I'd like to try accupucture, I'll have to look into it round here and the prices.

I need to get fit too. TTC has left me putting on a stone in weight Confused I was also cautious of doing too much due to the what ifs as I naively thought taking out a gym membership would be a waste of money as I'd be pregnant in no time. Nearly a year down the line...

OP posts:
Beansprout30 · 30/08/2015 21:45

I hope the dont fob you off and fingers crossed you will get another bfp super quickly.

Yes I need to get back into fitness, I cut down on running in case that was hindering my chances but I think I will get back on it this week. Also cut right down on caffeine and alcohol and am always reluctant to go out for drinks with friends these days just in case. Stupid really as nothing has helped so far!

sunshinegirl12 · 30/08/2015 23:58

Hi beansprout, B vits delayed my ovulation too and made my LP even shorter, so this month I'm going back to basics and just sticking with the pregnancy vits, though we have started pregnacare his n hers. I've really cut back on the alcohol too but I'm going away next weekend so am just going to relax and enjoy myself againWine

Does acupuncture actually help to conceive or is it more about relaxing? I'm terrified of needles, but I am willing to give anything a go.

Mascara, glad to hear u are feeling a little brighter and are being well looked after. Xx

Beansprout30 · 31/08/2015 08:53

I was on holiday last week sunshine and I did have a few glasses of wine too, it's easy to let ttc take over your life isn't it so you have to at least let your hair down on holiday

It is supposed to actually help you concieve, despite reading tons of info on it I still cannot get my head around how it really works but I have read pages and pages of positive things about it so I believe there must be something in it. The needles are nothing to be scared of, they are tiny and it's not like having an injection at all.

Well I don't know about where you allare but It's absolutely peeing down where I am this morning, typical bank holiday weather!
