Well, I thouht I'd better start this thread as I am CD1 of my 6th cycle of trying for our very precious first baby. This is going to be a lucky and positive thread, I can feel it so I'm laying down the babydust now so that as you join me, you can collect your dose .

For those who join me, what are you doing differently this cycle?

Hello ladies,

Sunshinedays, thanks for your post. DH and I have just started on the medical investigations. Biggest problem is getting information out of my GP's receptionists. Some of them are so rude and unhelpful, with the attitude that my test results are none of my f@*£ing business so stop bothering them!!! (Sorry, just had to get that off my chest ). We've been trying to get DH's test results for over a week now, but their failure to pass on messages correctly have scuppered a few chances. Hopefully we'll find out something tomorrow. If we get referred to the fertility clinic soon, things will probably improve on that front.

Impatience - fascinated to hear about your situation. A friend of ours is on the other side, in that he's the potential donor. Don't see him often, so don't know how he's getting on, or even if it's happening. I don't think he knew how we'd react when he told us, but he probably wasn't expecting me to start going on about how we are ttc, too, as if it was the same thing (which it is in many ways, apart from the logistics).

Ready - totally agree with you. I have found MN a real source of inspiration over the last couple of months. Can't go on and on about this stuff to many RL friends can we? Hope you are feeling better soon.

Wishing1, MrsMc, 1n2s - can I join the psycho mood-swing gang? Believe me, I qualify... Poor, poor, poor DH

sunshinedays · 17/11/2006 09:39

Hi to Natty, Geek & Impatience (and to everyone else)

Ready - Whoops. Tears & guilt weren't my intention - hope you're feeling better today.

MrsMcJnr - I think I read elsewhere your GP has refused to refer you ... so did mine when I was 35. (She gave me a right talking to - about how too many business women expect it to happen immediately etc (we'd been trying for over 6 months)).
I (wrongly) accepted it for a while - then a friend of a friend pointed out the NHS waiting list for a referral was about 6 months in my area and I should push to get on the waiting list. My advice is:

  1. LIE about how long you've been trying (how will they know?)
  2. PSYCH yourself up beforehand - be clear your objective is to leave the appointment with a referral
  3. INSIST you see another GP
  4. Consider bringing you DH in with you (go on, try a little bullying tactic)
  5. I didn't have the option .. but if you have private health cover you may be eligible to get some consultations fast tracked.

Minshu - good luck with getting the results .. hope you get a Hospital referral soon too. (GP tests are useful but tend to be more basic (especially the sperm tests) than the test the hospital will do.

Thinking of you
Sx

Babymad2DS · 17/11/2006 09:51

Cycle bud sideways here you are, how you doing?

MrsMcJnr · 17/11/2006 10:39

Hi Impatience - DH and I went to the cinema last night and I got in too late to check the book but I will over the weekend and get back to you.

Your Donor and his wife must be really special people and it must give them so much joy to be able to help you and your DP. I so hope it happens soon for you

Ready - hope you are feeling better for the weekend?

Minshu - Don't get me started on GPs and their staff TOTALLY empathise!! Hope you don't miss all your chances.

Hello Sunshinedays Sorry I had to run off yesterday before I'd had a chance to thank you for your inspirational post. I have been thinking long and hard about my own attitude to TTC and am worried that when I am pregnant (and like you, I just know I will be one of these days) I will look back on the precious first few months of our marriage and realise that I tainted them with worry and anxiety rather than enjoying them so I am going to make the most of every minute that DH and I have on our own because I know we will never have this time again.

Thanks for your advice re referrals. I actually went to the GP because I thought I had an infection and thought that whilst I was there, I might as well talk to him about TTC too. I have just started cycle 6 of TTC after 18 years on the pill. He was worse than useless and admitted that at their practice, they just refer people after 18 months. I know not to go to him again but I think if we get to the end of Jan and we are not pregnant I will take your advice and go back to someone else because by then, we will have been trying for 8 or 9 cycles and I will have charted 7 or 8 of them and as someone else rightly pointed out, if you are charting, that should enable you to seek help sooner as you have already been doing more than having unprotected sex when you feel like it!

How is everyone else? calm and happy?

Think it is time for a roll call. Whose near OV? whose in the 2WW? when are we all planning to test? I'll start:

MrsMcJnr - CD12 due to OV CD18 (i.e. Thurs 23/11). Due to test 6/12 (hopefully!!) Usually I have 28 day cycles but the last one was 31 so I'm erring on the side of caution.

OP posts:
Impatience · 17/11/2006 10:52

Hi Mrs. I'll be away all weekend, so just get around to checking that book when you can - no rush. Not like it's going to change anything anyway!

Minshu: interested to hear your friend is a donor. Is it for a lesbian couple, single woman, hetero couple with fertility probs? Do you know what kind of relationship he would have with any children? Am just interested. It truly is an amazing thing to do. Shortly after he agreed to help us I heard a good friend of mine had breast cancer and I decided on the spot that I would pass the karma on my donating eggs if her treatment left her with problems. That was when I ASSUMED there was nothing wrong with my eggs - now I aint so cocky!

Impatience · 17/11/2006 10:55

MrsMcJnr - CD12 due to OV CD18 (i.e. Thurs 23/11). Due to test 6/12 (hopefully!!) Usually I have 28 day cycles but the last one was 31 so I'm erring on the side of caution.

Impatience: CD12 due to OV probably CD14 (Sun 19/11). Test 5/12 (AF always due exactly 16 days after LH).

(sorry, don't know if you copy everyone else in as you go along)

MrsMc, 5th/6th Dec seems a really long way off doesn't it...?

MrsMcJnr · 17/11/2006 11:04

Seems like a good idea Impatience. I know what you mean about 5/6 Dec seeming a long way off but I guess it isn't really. If I do OV between CD16 & CD18 as usual and not CD19 like last cycle, I should really be due AF on 3/12 as my LP is usually 10 days but I am building in a window as last cycle I was so disappointed as I was 3 days late.

Does this sound odd but hear me out?! There was definatley something different last cycle. I was not imagining it, I know I wasn't and when AF was late, much, much heavier than normal and given the ache I have felt in my cervix ever since, I'm wondering if maybe fertilisation took place but implantation didn't? not that it makes the blindest bit of difference and I'll never know anyway but I did feel really different.

Ready: Cycle3 - CD7, think I OVd on CD15 last month (?) so will presume similar this month. Cycle is normally around 28 days give or take a day. Will not be testing until 5 days after AF fails to arrive (here's hoping).

good luck everyone xxxx

ready4motherhood · 17/11/2006 11:06

MrsMc - You could have a point there, I read somewhere (!?) that can happen. The period is heavier than normal etc. So while it's annoying that it didn't implant, it's a good sign right!!

Impatience · 17/11/2006 11:27

MrsMc, I agree with you and Ready that it sounds like something did happen last month, and I agree that that's good news because it means that fertilisation can happen! Don't worry about the failure to implant because that happens a lot. But be prepared for this month being a bit weird because your hormones might have been a bit imbalanced. I don't have anything to back me up here, except that a month I felt fertilisation happened was followed by an anovulatory cycle, which was really frustrating, and the reason I then pleaded with dp to have a go which resulted in ds!

MrsMcJnr · 17/11/2006 11:38

Thank you for listening to my rambling!

GeekInPigTails: Cycle5 - CD12 too, not sure when I OV (don't usually get pain and this is first month of charting) so assuming CD14 which is this Sunday. AF due 4th Dec, so hopefully testing as long after that as I can bear!

Hoping to BD tonight and Sunday, although that may be optimistic as DH managed to pull his hamstring at hockey training last night, so don't know how painful it'll be for him I'm away this weekend so won't be on here again until Monday - good luck to everyone OV'ing soon, I'll be thinking of you all as I do my air-bicycling!

MrsMcJnr · 17/11/2006 14:14

This is my 6th cycle of TTC. Sorry, maybe should have added that in!

Geek - I tried RR's trick of air-bicycle in the bathroom after BDing last night (god my tummy looks fat in that position ).

DH has had his MRI and he definatley has a slipped disc poor thing, he now has to schedule his op. I know he wants to wait until I am pregnant but I am going to try and persuade him to go for end of Jan time - what will be will be.

OP posts:
Impatience · 17/11/2006 14:27

MrsMc, I think he should have the op asap too: We've all done enough of putting life on hold till we're pg, don't let him be in pain indefinately. Imagine the stress about conceiving if his op is resting on it too. x And of course there is more than one way to skin a cat/impregnant MrsMc!

Know what you mean - it's the MOST ungraceful unflattering position! the sacrifices we make! Still, maybe it'll help improve the tummy situation - though I suppose that'll only happen if I do it every night and I really can't see that happening once we're well post-OV!

Well there is something reassuring in having a definite result I suppose. At least you can start planning for the op instead of worrying about what the problem really is. Hope it goes really smoothly for you both...

MrsMcJnr · 17/11/2006 14:36

Thank you Flossam - hope you get your best birthday present ever! My AF is due on my birthday next cycle but let's hope I don't even begin that cycle!

Sorry to crash thread. Just wanted to say hi to MrsMcJnr - haven't been on for a while due to pc problems but see you are still doing what you do best and keeping everyone's spirit up with your great advice and positivity. Still hoping and praying you get your BFP. xx ......and baby dust to everyone else too!!

MrsMcJnr · 17/11/2006 14:53

Thank you PinkButterfly That's really kind and it's lovely to hear from you, how are you and how are things going?

OP posts:
PinkButterfly · 17/11/2006 15:08

Things going fine MrsMcJ. That's me in wk9 now and hardly able to button jeans already!! Had my booking in appointment with midwife earlier this week so starting to feel a bit more real. We still haven't told anyone which has been extremely difficult at times when I am feeling particularly ill but not long now. M/wife said she expects scan date to be 6th December. EDD is 25th June and birth will definitely be by c-section again so may be a bit earlier than that. Where are you on your current cycle - haven't really managed to catch up on the threads ? x

MrsMcJnr · 17/11/2006 15:35

PinkButterfly - so glad to hear that things are going well 6th Dec is the day I test (hopefully!) and I'll be thinking about you at your scan! Sorry to hear it'll be a C. Are you upset?

I'm coming up for OV so this coming week is crucial. Fingers crossed!

OP posts:
PinkButterfly · 17/11/2006 15:44

No, not upset MrsMcJ - was expecting it really. Have had two c-section's already and actually last one (although it was an emergency and a bit traumatic) was completely fine and I was out of hospital after two days and recovered really quickly. SO, trying to think positive and hoping this one will work out well too. I don't feel cheated or a failure in the way some woman do - it's just the way things have worked for me and I've got my beautiful babes so however they come into the world is fine with me as long as we are healthy.

Everything crossed for you. xx
