TTC First Time - Anyone else?

My husband and I are TTC! I have been off the pill for a month now and have started taking folic acid and calcium with vit D to ensure if anything does happen I'm as healthy as possible. Limiting caffeine and alcohol but not cutting it out completely as you never know how long it will take! All my friends have just fallen pregnant really easily, but I have a feeling this will not be the case for me. I can't remember when my last period was either which is annoying as will need to wait for the next one before I can chart etc. Hmm Is anyone else out there TTC now? We could all share our stories and encourage each other! Smile

Thanks all have done another test with a digital one and it says pregnant as well 1-2 weeks - 2 weeks makes sense from my ovulation point so yep it seems all very real now and spotting has stopped! Going away next weds for a few days so I'll book into the docs then for a test :-) FX peanut sticks now! X

Hi all,

Well, I managed to return from France in one piece (just), though my morning sickness has now kicked further into gear...another week signed off sick! :-(

Congratulations Futter on your BFP, that's fantastic news!! :-)

Katybear123 · 01/08/2014 17:45

Well done flutter, that a is great news and wow was fast. Sorry u r feeling so horrid Durham just try and relax and enjoy ur time out. Af is sticking around here day 6 and she hasn't gone grrrrr. I just want to get cracking, last month was a 25 day cycle so having af for 6 days is limiting time!! Flutter and Durham what method if any did u use for bfp every other days or cbfm, or just mothear nature?

Niva123 · 01/08/2014 18:32

Hi guys!
I'm at the very early stages and just brought some preconception vitamins. Going to take them for a week and start trying. Also going to try and get the hang of the ovulation kit - as I'm starting to realise that you've got try your hardest for it all to come together !!

Niva123 · 01/08/2014 18:33

Did you all take the vitamins for a lot longer before you started trying?

Futter · 01/08/2014 18:37

Hi Katybear I used an ovulation kit and also the Ovia app. We DTD as many days as possible in the run up as soon as the OTK said I'd gone into medium fertility as the swimmers can stay in your system for 6 days apparently and then as soon as the kit said Ovulation then I knew the egg would be released in 12-24 hours so made sure we DTD for the next 3 days so it seems one of those stuck! To be honest me and the hubby quite like DTD so it didn't seem like a chore and made sure it wasn't too much about making a baby if we could but I know that's difficult! X we have also both been taking his and her conception vitamins for 2 months. I would love to say I've been good with alcohol but I haven't really as didn't think I would be PG yet but I do eat healthy and exercise a couple of days a week x wishing you all the best katybear ... It's still very early days for me so trying not to get too excited yet incase something goes wrong especially how quick it has happened! I think I'm still in shock! X

Sunshinesaz86 · 01/08/2014 21:48

Hi ladies, can I please join I'm ttc #1 cycle 2 first proper one after stopping the pill and natural AF starting! Currently on CD14 got a positive opk on CD11 have done the deed so far 6,8,9,10,12 &13 and will try to DTD again tonight and sat/sun!
Congrats on your BFP's so far ladies and I hope there's more to come!!

Katybear123 · 02/08/2014 08:44

Thanks futter that really helps. V excited to get going again this cycle my hubbie thinks I'm mad reading all these but it really helps, he also thinks I'm mad wanting a clear blue fertility tester if we don't manage it this cycle but I'm going with what I thinks right he thinks it's just a marketing con, men!
So pleased for you and good to here we r doing things right we managed every other day last cycle from day 5-16. Going to shoot for the same thing this month and maybe an additional couple at the end just to be sure.

Welcome sunshine. You and I r v similar. I'm on cycle 3 off the pill 2 af's naturally but the first was so pathetic I can't really call it a period, this one was much more the real deal so I'm hoping this might be the month. Xxx

Sunshinesaz86 · 02/08/2014 11:25

Hi Katybear, its terrible how much the pill can mess with our bodies, i genuinly panicked when i started reading these forums thinking oh crap it could take ages for us to get pregnant so quickly decided we would get started straight away!

FX for everyone getting their BFP's, its so hard when its the first time to know whats going on!

Katybear123 · 02/08/2014 14:20

Your so right and it can happen fast to I think but can also take a while Grin there's no definitesHmm

Niva123 · 02/08/2014 19:11

Hi can I join as well? We haven't started TTC yet but just started taking the pre conception vitamins and going to check with doctors about vaccinations all being in place ! I can't wait to start but really worried and scared at the same time !! I'm also just starting to look in to ovulation kits and figure out my cycle - I wish I'd known about tracking earlier !! Any advice anyone has with getting ready to TTC would be super helpful !!! Thanks

Domr81 · 02/08/2014 23:35

Aged 32 and been ttc for 4 months with no joy, been off pill for 3 years. Anyone been in same position?

Sunshinesaz86 · 03/08/2014 09:38

FX for u katybear, and all the other ladies ttc! I'm now on CD16, 4PO so going to be waiting patiently and symptom spotting no doubt!!

Hi niva and domr, well this is technically my 2nd cycle but didn't really know what was happening 1st cycle and I assumed id ovulate around the 14th, this month however used opks and figured out I ov'd a bit earlier so made sure I DTD much more often earlier on! I have no cm either so can't go off that, so found my opk very useful! Just hopes it works now!!

Ladyboluna · 03/08/2014 15:03

Hi Niva and Sunshine - as you've both only just started TTC I wouldn't necessarily recommend investing in OPK's or CBFM until you've given it a few months, especially if you've just stopped taking any contraceptives. Statistically 90% of people conceive within 1 year of trying by DTD once every 2-3 days so I wouldn't increase worries by using those things and just enjoy it the natural way for a while. Smile

Sunshinesaz86 · 03/08/2014 15:50

Hi ladyboluna, I'm not actually worrying, just would rather know when to expect ov as I don't have any ewcm to keep an eye out for, which is one of the biggest indicators that's all. And I found opk very useful this cycle and only used one once a day 3/4 times.

Ladyboluna · 03/08/2014 16:36

Very often OPK's detect ovulation - but by this time it's too late as sperm needs to be there, ready, before you ovulate. So don't do it thinking that it's a sure-fire way of getting pregnant fast as there are many ladies who will attest to the opposite. Obviously I wish you all the best but personally I found it easier to just DTD (lots), then use an app to track when AF was due, and then when I reached the 12 month mark (when it became obvious I was the 10% of people who take longer than 1 year) then I found it a real benefit to feel like I was in control so started to use the CBFM to give me a little longer before going to my GP.

However everyone's different so lets get out BFP's by hook or by crook! And hopefully by our OH's!

Also what's ewcm?

Sunshinesaz86 · 03/08/2014 16:58

Ewcm (egg white cervical mucus) most woman get it prior to ovulation so it's an easy sign to spot when ovulation is on it's way, not having any of this it's a bit trickier hence the opk and I do understand where your coming from that they are not 100% accurate however having them indicate is certainly better than nothing and guessing as mine got darker slowly then I had one really dark day and nothing the day after it showed me it was around the right time or up to 36 hrs after so I tried to DTD before and after the indicator which was earlier than what I would of thought so very useful I found!

You are right we are all here for the same thing and fingers crossed everyone gets there BFP's soon! I know the likelihood of it happening straight away is slim but I'd rather make sure I'm giving it my best shot. And in the meantime these forums are for everyone to share their thoughts and experiences to chat and discuss different things!

snowberry86 · 03/08/2014 19:35

I came off the pill in March (had been on it for 10 years) and so far have not managed to conceive.

I had a normal ish period when I finished the last pocket but since then have had 'cycles' of 28 days, 26, 16, 7, 5 and then 20! Each 'period' if you can call them that has been very light and with no pain at all. The only memory I have of periods was being 17 and it being very very painful however 10 years of the pill means I have no idea what is normal for me!

I am tempted to see my GP but I know she will just say I need to give my body longer to regulate itself. I am just a very impatient person and my two best friends are pregnant at the minute which makes it more frustrating!

Tempted to try ovulation tests to see whether i am actually ovulating or not. Does anyone have any advice?

greenwolf · 03/08/2014 20:34

hello snowberry. I came off the pill about 18 months ago, although me and my partner used other methods of contraception (hoping for an accident, which didn't happen!) and I'm now in my 3rd cycle ttc. Although my periods are fairly regular, I now use charting as a way to assess what's going on with the different hormones and when I ovulate. I haven't used ovulation tests, and the reason I suggest charting is because it's cheap! All you need is a digital thermometer, and apps like fertility friend are free. I know what you mean about feeling impatient. Good luck, and I hope your cycle settles down soon.

happygojo · 03/08/2014 21:13

I am using poundland ovulation kits. Cheap and cheerful. Even though I think I missed my window... The heat and working long hours last week meant that dtd was just not top of my wish list. However... I am still looking for 'symptoms'.... Ugh is every month of ttc like this? Or am I just crazy! Af is due in a week! Does anyone else on here have migraines? I take zomig for mine which I probably shouldn't take whilst ttc esp not during the 2ww. I just wondered if anyone had any advice

Katybear123 · 04/08/2014 21:57

Thanks sunshine fingers x for u to. I'm using 2 apps which r giving me different fertile days do going for eod over both toms just to b safe so from now till 16tg we r on it!!!! Think we might b shattered by the end!!!

Aprilray · 07/08/2014 15:00

We seem to have dropped right to the bottom of the second page so bumping us back up to the top.

I second temping Snowberry, it was only through temping that I realised I ovulate later in my cycle than I thought and had been stopping DTD too early each month. It is so hard when you have friends who are pregnant. My best friend and another close friend got pregnant just before DH and I started ttc and I was convinced that by the time the babies arrived I would be pregnant but still ttc!

Ladyboluna · 07/08/2014 17:19

Katy DTD every day has a negative effect on your DP's sperm count - he needs 48 hours to replenish the troops ea ch time to their maximum capacity.

april I know what you mean, one friend of mine who knew I was ttc told me she only stopped taking the pill 3 months before getting pregnant. Turns out actually she'd been trying for over a year. Upset me a bit as I've been trying for over a year and I wonder whether I should be lying about it too? Is it really something to be ashamed about? Meh.

Within the last month - 2 colleagues have had babies, another has announced a pregnancy and within the last 6 months I've become an auntie twice and my old school friend has had her 2nd. I feel like there are babies exploding from everyones fanjos apart from mine! Lol.

Katybear123 · 07/08/2014 18:24

Hey ladies cd12 here and I think I might b ovulating as have cramp on right side, I'm sure last month it was left and was cd13. Hoping to dtd today, we did it cd 9 and tried last night but oh v tired so no luck was bummed but trying not to show as don't want him to get a complex
