TTC First Time - Anyone else?

My husband and I are TTC! I have been off the pill for a month now and have started taking folic acid and calcium with vit D to ensure if anything does happen I'm as healthy as possible. Limiting caffeine and alcohol but not cutting it out completely as you never know how long it will take! All my friends have just fallen pregnant really easily, but I have a feeling this will not be the case for me. I can't remember when my last period was either which is annoying as will need to wait for the next one before I can chart etc. Hmm Is anyone else out there TTC now? We could all share our stories and encourage each other! Smile

Hi happygojo and welcome. Nice and chilled yep I thought that to and failed! Came off pill in May, cycle 1 51 days, cycle 2 26 days I think as pretty certain just come on sounds dumb I know but still getting to know my body having been on the pill for 17 yrs. few tears with hubbie today about coming on but trying to b positive as hope it will mean my body is clicking into a routine and we can try and plan dtd. This month went for every other day day 6-16 and we plan to do one more like this and then might move to ovulation testing if don't fall. Trying to keep thinkng about the reasons it's gd that I'm not preg like parties I can drink at etc

happygojo · 27/07/2014 22:03

We are in the process of trying to buy a house so actually... Probably not the BEST time to ttc... but my body is making me mental... rationality is out of the window. I was at a country fair yesterday and it felt like every single woman there was either sporting a bump, a pram or a toddler... Sometimes all three. I haven't been on hormonal contraception for 2 years so my cycle should be pretty steady (26-29 days) I ovulation tested from say 10 but now on day 13

happygojo · 28/07/2014 09:57

Meant to say, don't be down hearted, it might take your body a while to get used to not being in the pill. I just keep thinking of all the accidental pregnancies that happen in the world. ... How hard can it be. I have 3 friends that feel on their first try. But I am actually having quite good fun trying!

glitterbomb80 · 28/07/2014 10:53

Yep, came off the pill a couple of weeks ago and have been a hormonal mentalist ever since. My cycle is all over the place. I'm hoping things normalise soon, it's like being 14 again - crying and covered in spots!

I've started taking the Vitabitics pre-conception vitamins and have cut back on the booze for about 6 months now. Am dreading - dreading - giving up coffee. It will not go well. So for now I guess I'll just have to see the silver lining on the irregular cycle cloud and love my lattes as long as I can.

Katybear123 · 28/07/2014 18:04

Hi all well af defo here, whilst am sad it didn't work this month is much more a period. Last month whilst I had bleeding for 5 days it was so light I really didn't need to use anything. This month is much more what u would expect, teary, tired, and defo af! So that make cycle 2 25 days. Let's see how long she hangs around, have worked out my likely dates already for this month. Onward and upward!

happygojo · 28/07/2014 22:47

Katybear123 your cycle is probably just settling down. Are you using ovulation tests? I got some from the pound shop (yup... I'm classy) and got my first positive today on CD 15. However after spending 2 extra hours at work and having to be up at 6.30am.... I would just rather read a good book! My other half is also say happily watching the common wealth games and playing geeky computer games. I don't want to get to the point where we are just going through the motions because I 'should' have sex today :-s

Glitterbomb80 - Omg I feel your caffeine pain. Although today I had one cup of coffee and a hot chocolate... Go me! I am usually a 4-5 cups of coffee a day kind of girl. I bought some caffeine free diet coke to try and ease the transition. I have been taking some 'savers' mum+ vitamins which I have been taking for a month (just plain folic acid before that) but now I have pushed the boat out and gone for pregnacare conception.

Katybear123 · 29/07/2014 18:10

Hi happy go. As u say I think it's my cycle settling down and the gd news is I think it's everything go bk to how it should which is great as only cane off pill in may. Have figured out fertile window for next month based on apps and mumsnet which is basically 12 days long so an going to stick with this as my guide for now. If no luck this month going to move to clear blue ovulation monitor. Have been reading up and this looks the best based on being able to test over a fairly wide window so not having to get up at 6 everyday Smile. Where r u in your cycle do u know?

Ladyboluna · 29/07/2014 18:40

Fertile window lasting 12 days seems pretty long katybear, which app are you using?

This month is my first month using the clearblue fertility monitor (new one). Gotta wait until Friday until I start POASing. I'm impressed with the look and feel of the monitor, just hope it's going to be useful at least to see if I'm ovulating each month.

I've heard some people saying they only get "Highs" and don't always get a peak - after some research I think that's because a high is caused by one hormone and a peak by the LH hormone - if theres no LH then you're going to get high readings for a while.

Katybear123 · 29/07/2014 18:46

Hi lady, so the long window is only because I'm using 3 apps and mumsnet Smile. This is only cycle 2 for me. Ive just started cycle 3 so whilst cycle 2 was 25 days I'm basically running the apps for 25, 26 and 28 day cycles just in case. Also don't know how long ad is going to hang about! So I'm basically taking the tactic of day 6-16 could b my fertile period do going for dtd every other day. Fingers crossed it will work. 10 days is way shorter than I made us try in month 1, so actually feel pretty ok and not like we might run out of energy - I hope at least!Grin

Ladyboluna · 30/07/2014 20:41

Dtd every other day for 10 days? Good luck on your dtd marathon! That does sound like us lately though, after it hasn't happened straight away for us we're been like that. I finished AF this morning so it begins tonight! Sorry if that's TMI. The most important thing is to start as soon as AF finishes as DP's swimmers have to be there before the egg as opposed to after ovulation has already happened, so once CBFM says I've finished my peak we can rest!

MrsSMB · 30/07/2014 20:52

Hello everyone I'm new to here and TTC for the first time! I don't have many friends with babies or in the same boat a find it hard to get advice. Finding the 2 week wait very stressful and today I was due AF but nothing... Sounds like great news but tests say negative! Help? Can I still be pregnant as the tests are the one that says 99% accurate!
I feel like I've been having 'symptoms' eg. Bloating, nausea, off food, sore boobs and exhaustion. But then the past 2 days I've had cramps?? Maybe just wishful thinking???

Katybear123 · 30/07/2014 22:33

Hi lady, thanks for the luck, see 10 days feels good to me, in comparison to how it has been. Good luck to you to.

Hi mrssmb, so I'm not an expert here but I guess you could be preg yes, sadly speaking from experience the symptoms u described I was sure I had twice and neither time have turned out to be a bfp. I will keep all crossed for you though

happygojo · 31/07/2014 10:37

Hi katybear I am on cd 18 of a 28 day cycle. I got LH surge in cd15. Dtd more than normal but since LH surge tiredness and IBS got in the way of feeling frisky! So we'll see. Feeling pretty resigned to the fact that this month will not be my month. But it is cycle #1 so I'm ok with that. I will still probably sit on the loo in tears though in 10 days! Thinking of trying preseed... We dtd quite a lot before my lh surge though so not impossible. Although I never got the EWCM...

Choccyhobnob · 31/07/2014 10:49

Arrrgh I'm 2 days late, have absolutely no AF cramping whereas it's usually bad from day before I'm due on. POAS this morning, BFN. Where is AF then?!

Aprilray · 31/07/2014 15:56

Hi everyone,
Do you know how many days past ovulation you are MrsSMB and Choccyhobnob? I found this website when I've been in a similar position;

www.countdowntopregnancy.com/pregnancy-test/dpo-chart.php?dpo=20 (hope it works)

And some ladies don't get a BFP until days after AF was due...FX for you both. It is awful when you are in limbo.

Don't think this is going to be our month. DH has been away for work this week and pretty sure I oved around Tuesday - talk about bad timing - boo!

kittenmamma · 31/07/2014 16:43

Choccy try 15 days late and still neither! And a sucky docs that never have appts!

Choccyhobnob · 31/07/2014 17:17

Oh dear kitten I'd be going spare! I think I'm about 13 dpo Aprilray but not really sure as not used OPKs yet.

glitterbomb80 · 31/07/2014 20:54

I am trying not to go down the OPK route, as that way lies madness for an obsessive type like myself. I haven't had a period in months because of the pill and I still haven't had my breakthrough bleed since coming off it. However, on the weekend (a week and a half after stopping the pill), I felt something that might have been ovulation pain, so immediately jumped DH and got to it.

Now I am driving myself mad symptom-spotting. Swollen tits, bloating, mild nausea... I am going to go spare waiting for next weekend so I can get an accurate POAS. It's bloody stressful, this TTC thing.

greenwolf · 31/07/2014 20:57

Congratulations all you ladies with BFPs. Very exciting. Although I'm ttc, can't quite imagine being there on the loo with two lines!

We are still ttc and I have now begun charting to figure out my cycle which went from a fairly predictable 28-30 days to 25/26 days long, causing much panic over luteal phase length. The charting has been ok - taking temperatures at the same time each morning is easy enough, although I'm finding the CF aspect more complicated. Using fertility friend. Anyone else charting and anyone else facing short luteal phase?

Good luck everyone x

Katybear123 · 31/07/2014 22:02

Hey greenwolf, yep I'm charting though only using cm as a guide and ff app, combined with mumsnet guide. I thus month had a 25 day cycle so I guess I might have a short luteal phase but I'm not sure as I think I ovulated day 13 last cycle as had some pain. Just trying not to get to obsessed as I guess what will be will be. Waiting for af to go at the mo, hoping that it will go by tomoz can't be sure as this is only 2nd period off pill then on we go for cycle 3

Futter · 01/08/2014 06:37

Good morning all! Some advice and help please if you don't mind x we've used an OTK for the first proper month on TTC as I was on the pill for years before this and has no idea what my cycle was like! I ovulated around the 19th and we DTD almost every day leading up to and around it. This week instead of getting a proper period like I did the last one (that was first period after coming off the pill) I thought dear AF had arrived this week but it was more just spotting brown then red then brown etc. Anyway I've been feeling really tired and very hormonal and due to go to a couple of events this weekend so have done a test this morning just in case and it's a BFP! However I'm a bit concerned it might be a false negative as I'm still spotting very slightly - any advice?!

Futter · 01/08/2014 06:38

I mean a false positive!

mzzzf · 01/08/2014 10:02

You can't get false positives, right now you're PREGNANT! Grin

Congratulations!!

Re the bleeding, could be implantation? FX it sticks and all is brilliant!

Aprilray · 01/08/2014 10:13

I second that, congratulations Futter!!!

happygojo · 01/08/2014 12:59

Sounds like implantation bleeding (from what I have read) if you are worried try and get to a walk in centre. How exciting! Fingers crossed that everything goes really smoothly for you
