Damn, I've missed the bistro again - maybe I'll make it one week! There's a lot to catch up on here, so apologies if I've missed anything major.
Irish & eire, I hope the MCs resolve themselves quickly.
Tina, how are you feeling now? I hope you're coping with the hormones, and they're not causing too much havoc.
knicky & somewhere, I hope all is well with you both, your scan seems to be have come round very quickly knicky, even though it's not for a few days yet.
FF, lovely to hear from you, sounds like motherhood is suiting you! Miasmum, wishing you lots of strength and love in the next few weeks, hope you have lots of RL support too. The Olympic volunteering must have been a fantastic experience on the whole, what an amazing thing to have done.
Welcome lotsofcheese, crunchies and onemore, wishing you all a short stay here.
I agree with hippy that nature has not made us a good system here, with all the miscarriages, and general difficulties that we older ladies have to put up with in our quest for babies. And the 2ww is an especially poor part of that system in my view, with pregnancy/PMS symptoms sometimes being indistinguishable. Just a thought.
Thank you miasmum & FF for talking sense about statistics, it's easy to get depressed by them, but then there were more than 12,000 births to women in their 40s last year so it happens for lots of us, but I guess that's quite heavily skewed towards early 40s, which I no longer am.

We had a lovely holiday, we went to Austria where it was very hot. I wasn't very relaxed for the first few days, because as well as not feeling good with a hideously sore throat, AF chose not to show up when expected. I didn't have a HPT with me so don't know if AF was just nearly a week late (37 days is well out of the zone for me) or if there was more going on, but whatever, there was no, or very little progesterone, this month so I knew I couldn't really be pregnant. This cycle we have as good a chance as we've had for a while as DH is around from CD10-20, which I reckon should cover it, if we can DTD enough!
hi to angel, blackcats, golden, italian, gothin, diege, hopeful, jollster and anyone else I've missed.

somewherebecomingrain · 25/08/2012 13:55

hi sparkly scan in less than three weeks now. not getting carried away. In the meantime, whilst trying not to get carried away, I am having lots of nausea. I thought i'd got rid of it with some vitamin b6 but today it's back with a vengeance. I have actually vomited once which i didn't last time.

as such, diege i know the bistro's closed but if you could toss me a rice cake that would do.

eirehead good luck with it i hope you will be ttc soon.

And sparkly very good luck this month!

golden good luck!

xx

blackcatsdancing · 26/08/2012 08:50

at my booking in appointment before my MMC the midwife confirmed that there were plenty of women older than me (i was 43 at time) that she was caring for. What i didn't ask is how many had natural conceptions, how many were using donor eggs etc. I'm only interested in those extra figures as we cannot afford to have any help , its natural or nothing.

goldengirl71 · 26/08/2012 11:33

Same here, Blackcats, and how many of those women seen by the midwife go on to have babies? Because as we all know it's not getting pregnant that's the issue, it's bloody keeping them.

Somewhere, how exciting! Hope you're managing to feel quietly confident.

Sparkly, the 2ww is the absolute pits, isn't it? I'm seriously considering not temping after 3DPO. What IS the point??

May I ask for some advice? Is caffeine seriously bad for TTC? I don't drink coffee or tea but sometimes drink sports energy drinks at the gym. Secondly, what about codeine? I suffer from severe headaches which paracetomol doesn't touch and I sometimes have to succumb to Co-codamol. I try desperately to refrain during the 2ww but could it be affecting my egg quality pre-ov?

Well..it's CD13 over here so baby-making starts in earnest tonight. DP starts a new job on Tuesday so over the weekend he splashed out and got the 'proper' chemist Viagra at £28 (gulp) for four (gulp!)

Have a restful Sunday, everyone...thinking of you Irish & Eire xx

goldengirl71 · 26/08/2012 11:44

May I ask another question? I read recently that more IVF attempts are successful during the winter months because this is when women are most fertile. Do you think there's any truth in this?

TinaO99 · 26/08/2012 14:11

sparkly im fine thanks. just have 'pregnant boobs' at the moment lol. they feel very sore and tender. wish it was for real :-( think im running through all the listed side effects for supracur! damn i missed the diner again thats probably a good thing though as I put on 4lb last week!

EireHead · 26/08/2012 19:37

Thanks, goldengirl. Your phrase about "keeping" reminded me of an article in yesterday's Irish Independent- stating that women who have repeated MCs may actually be super- fertile- I posted the link in another thread- I will go look for it now...

goldengirl71 · 26/08/2012 20:35

Read your link, Eire, thanks. Very interesting indeed - although if I was having multiple miscarriages this article would not make me feel any more positive Sad

Still waiting for DP to pull his finger out here...if you'll excuse the pun Hmm

10000Fireflies · 26/08/2012 21:38

gg many women cut all caffeine when ttc. I did and so did DH - completely - no tea, coffee, energy drinks. Some women even suggest the method of decaffeination of coffee is imp as some methods use formaldehyde, and the aim is to reduce all toxins in your body. Expensive, organic decaff (processed with water apparently) and sparkling mineral water became my vices!!

Co-codamol should be ok, strangely, as ok in pregnancy. Weird, isn't it?

Re: summer/winter IVF - haven't heard of such, though apparently there are clear peaks around September, due to festive frolicking, and March/April/May due to summer hay making. ;-)

Eire that's an interesting idea - more MCs for the more fertile. Not nice, but makes sense.

Hope everyone is having a good BH weekend. Had a lovely day with bro and family celebrating our birthdays.

Night all. ff

goldengirl71 · 26/08/2012 22:23

Thanks for your input, FF...and Happy Birthday!! Thanks Wine

I am STILL waiting for DP (or rather, DPs Viagra)Confused

lotsofcheese · 26/08/2012 22:33

Goldengirl - you & me both!! Trying to get DP away from Match of the Day - had a very strong OPK 1hr ago - need to DTD & toddler already been up wailing plus have a 6.45 start! The joys!

hopefulgum · 27/08/2012 09:17

Just wanted to pop in and say hello.

I've just come back from a fabulous weekend away. It was a great recharger.

Not much news here in relation to ttc. I may be in with a chance this month, but not feeling too hopeful as timing wasn't all that good. It remains to be seen, and I'm okay with that. It is nice to feel a sort of ease about it all.

Good luck to those who are ovulating or coming up to testing time.Smile

123littlepigs · 27/08/2012 10:21

Hi can I join....

We're trying for number 3 and although really excited about having a third also a little nervous not wanting to upset the current well groomed family set up....

Anyone else on their third or more....? How is it for you?

On cd8 at the mo, and not due to test until 18sept so this is the week to dtd...

goldengirl71 · 27/08/2012 16:17

Ah, Cheese! The dreaded footie! It was almost midnight before we got down to it and I was beginning to fret that it might not happen, but somehow DP managed to make the whole xperience rather feverish and exciting which was lovely. I'm very grateful for that. We DTD at noon today and will try again later as I don't feel it's fair to demand sex early tomorrow morning (ovulation day) before he starts his new job. Saying that, I got a ngative on the Clearblue OPK last night and this morning so I have either missed the surge by not testing early enough (and I've now run out of the thingies you shove in the pen - can you buy refills?) or I am not going to ovulate tomorrow. I'll see how my temperature behaves. Although they are not to be trusted as I've stupidly been farting around with both celcius and farenheit thermometers (don't ask) and do not know how this will affect fertilityfriend's analysis (stupid girl). Anyhow, sex on Wednesday, Friday, last night and twice today should do the trick for this fertile window. And if it doesn't...I fecking give up.

Hopeful, you sound rested and resigned. Good for you Smile

Littlepigs, welcome & good luck Thanks You'll find allsorts of advice and comfort on here, but I hope your stay is a short one. How old are you, may I ask?

goldengirl71 · 27/08/2012 16:22

Littlepigs, I'm trying for my first child (I'm 41 on Thursday) so I'm afraid I cannot advise you on a third! Wink

123littlepigs · 28/08/2012 00:32

Hi All...I'm 40 and kinda want it all to happen this year. 2 other DC are 4 years apart and if this happened this year, this would be the 3rd 4 yrs apart. Not sure how I will cope as I do have my reservations as the family unit is perfect right now.

But also feel, as am from a large family, I may regret not having more while this window of opportunity remains open a little longer.

Onwards forward....dtd this weekend so fx I'll have something to show for all my hard work ahead of me... Lol x

123littlepigs · 28/08/2012 00:33

I know it's early, but happy bday in advance goldengirl71.... Anything nice planned?

10000Fireflies · 28/08/2012 09:26

Welcome littlepigs. Am envious of your remarkable youth, having just turned 43 myself (thanks for the bday wishes GG - hoorah - somebody noticed!!). Had lovely, snuggly DS1 at end of June and now hoping he'll not be an only child. Good luck! Lots of sound advice and support on here as and when you need it.

How's everyone else? Had a good bh weekend? Am actually glad it's over and can get on with stuff!

goldengirl71 · 28/08/2012 10:26

Little pigs, thank you and no, I won't be celebrating my birthday. Now I'm trying for a baby the urge to stave off ageing is quite overwhelming; never used to bother me Sad Do you know when you ovulate? I'm assuming you ovulate very early in your cycle if you DTD this weekend and it's only CD9 for you today? Good luck for this month.

FF, you're waiting until Christmas to TTC if I remember rightly? You must be chomping at the bit, right? Wink

We didn't manage to DTD twice yesterday. Late last night, DP rturned from the toilet and declared that his knob was 'red raw'. Why do men exaggerate? Anyway, I've warned him to be ready when he gets back from work today after starting his new job.

Tina, I hope your body is doing all the right things to prepare for that golden egg. It certainly sounds like it. Much, much luck being sent your way..

goldengirl71 · 29/08/2012 10:25

So...DP gets home from his new job. My cervix is high, soft and open. He takes his Viagra. We try to DTD - epic fail. Without going into details we tried everything. I asked him if he would be prepared to take the pot from the self-insemination kit into his room later and, in his own time, masturbate into it so I could inseminate myself. He siad: 'No, I fucking won't. Do you think I'll actually ejaculate any easier on my own without your naked body in front of me?' I said yes, I thought he might, as a matter of fact, and that I thought it was about damned time he allowed me to buy mucky magazines for these very occasions instead of him being all 'oh, but the image of you is all I need, love' bollocks.

Later, after I had gone to bed, DP crept into my room (yes, we sleep in separate rooms; his snoring and my fiercely independent sleeper requirements) and asked if we could try again. I told him he really didn't need to do this; that we had had plenty of sex in the run-up to ovulation blah, blah. He said 'I'm not leaving until we've done this' (his pride, methinks. He finds the day of ovulation monstrously difficult). What followed was a rather sad and undignified scenario all round until I stopped him and sent him off to bed. Half an hour later, he peered around the door holding the pot with the samllest dribble of semen. Angel. He was mortified. I was kissing his feet (you know what I mean) and thanking him over and over. I followed the instructions (wait 30 mins for the sperm to liquify) and inseminated using the pipette. Ta-da!

What a bloody mess all this is Sad Will I ever get pregnant again...? Sad

MiaAlexandrasmummy · 29/08/2012 18:19

oh golden what a sad, but lovely story. Your DH loves you very much. That is so precious.

10000Fireflies · 30/08/2012 09:39

Happy Birthday Golden. Have a nice time. Fingers xd his early bday gift to you ends in another present in June next year. (BTW, it's really important when you're TTC not to be totaly subsumed by it.)

Took DS to the Damian Hirst ex yesterday. Not a bad first artist for a 9 week old to start with... Lots of lovely shapes and sparkles. (Could as well have been Harrod's Christmas dept..!!) Actually, I take the huge rumbling in his nappy as we entered the first room to be his critical appraisal of the ex. :-)

Hi to everyone. Hope you are well. FF xx

goldengirl71 · 30/08/2012 14:44

MiasMummy, he really is a trouper and I am very, very grateful to have him in my life.

FF, thank you for your birthday wishes! If I did indeed get pregnant two days ago when I ovulated I can always say I got pregnant at 40 Wink I know what you're saying about being obsessed with TTC. I'm afraid it's too, too late for any back-pedalling now (can sperm detect us being 'subsumed' with it all?)
Ah. Damien Hirst. One of my favourite people (not least because he irks the posh critics of the art world, who are just jealous). I also like his accent; it's almost as common as mine.
"Critical appraisal of the ex..." Are you telling us that Mr. Hirst is your ex-boyfriend???!!! Elaborate, missus, please!

goldengirl71 · 30/08/2012 14:46

Oh crumbs. I am so stupid, FF. I've realised (too late!) that 'ex' is an abbreviation of 'exhibition' [hangs head sheepishly]
