pq hope little one manages to stay put for a while longer. Must be v stressful. Glad your under good medical care.

Duggs fc you get a strong line!!

PQ77 · 10/08/2012 08:12

Ooh duggs, I was wondering when you were going to test! Sounds like a line to me. Looking fwd to tomorrow's update.

sarah there's a Professor at my hospital who's running a big study on the efficacy of this test. The problem is that while it is over 99% reliable at predicting that you are not going into labour (negative result) a positive test has a high false positive rate. You could probably get a referral to his weekly clinic, he sees people from 16 weeks. I can give you more details by email if you're interested.

So I am sticking my head in the sand until next Wednesday and if it's another positive test then I think bed rest is what's suggested - but it won't delay things by too much. I worked from home yesterday and will taxi into work next week which I am hoping will meet the doctors recommendation of taking it easy. Have given away my pentathlon tix for tomorrow - oh well!

Havingkittens · 10/08/2012 09:48

Ooooooh, Duggs! Whatever I have left to cross is crossed for you! I really really hope we end up being bump buddies Grin x

BellyD · 10/08/2012 10:05

Duggs thank you so much for posting the test info, we will def get the tests we haven't had done. To see any sort of line at 10dpo is great, so looking good, everything crossed for you.

PQ hoping your test result was a fp but take it easy in the meantime.

duggs1976 · 10/08/2012 12:14

Oh well I used "walgreen" early response tests - did 2 and a faint blue fat line appeared but after 10 min window on both. Read how unreliable these r reading after 10 mins so got a FRER test and attempted to re test with 1 hour wee (tmi) and nothing !? Grrr I should know better slap my wrists. Sad

Havingkittens · 10/08/2012 12:50

How long after the 10 mins was it duggs? My early tests took 10 mins to show up (and were extremely feint). As long as upon don't leave it too much past 10 mins it might still be true! I find the cheap early response ones are more sensitive than the FRER. I think FRER are 25mui, where the cheap ones can be 10 mui. I will remain cautiously optimistic on your behalf.

duggs1976 · 10/08/2012 12:56

Maybe 15 to 20 mins? What r these cheap ones u talk about ? How do I get those?

duggs1976 · 10/08/2012 12:57

Ps feel hideous sick and knackered by thought it might be jet lag (?still from
Monday??? ) and hydroxy which I have just started this is day 3!

cartoonface · 10/08/2012 13:38

hey PQ thanks for answering me and i hope you are feeling ok. dr s has told me to start the asprin, vit d3 and pregnacare but i think this is usual for everyone? just need to await the results of my bloods he did now my follow up is 8th sept so a bit of a wait to drive my self mad in.

Havingkittens · 10/08/2012 13:58

duggs, these are the cheap ones I use. Ideal for compulsive testers! Also come in OPK variety too. You can buy a combo pack.

I'm feeling really tired today, and a bit dizzy and spaced. Pred does make me feel a bit spaced after a few days so I'm hoping that this isn't quite the end of my pred buzz that's been keeping me going through this job. I need it to keep me going just a bit longer. I have another 3 days on this, then 2 days on another one and this morning someone booked me for Wednesday. I can't tell you how badly I want to sleep for 10 hours straight and spend the day languishing on my sofa!

Have booked my first scan at EPU at St Hellier's for 23 August, on Louise's suggestion as Mr S is away. As I am under his care at both St Hellier's and privately that works quite well as they can still get the info to him and it saves me a bit of money too. Then I will (hopefully) have my second scan with him on 4 Sept at NLC, just after he returns from holiday.

Sorry for lack of personals. Too sleepy to retain any information!

Can anyone tell me how much longer I can expect to have a normal looking face for please? Does the moonface just appear overnight? Or does it puff up gradually?

Arianrhod · 10/08/2012 14:00

duggs keeping all spare appendages (that aren't already crossed for kittens crossed that this might be the time. You never know - 10dpo is really, really early.

The FRER tests are sensitive to 12.5 mIU, btw.

duggs1976 · 10/08/2012 15:05

Thanks guys ! kittens can't believe I'm 3 yrs into this bloody ttc journey and I've only just discovered these?

freelancegirl · 10/08/2012 16:16

Just a quick drop in from the phone to say fingers crossed for you Duggs!!! Keep us updated. Gosh yes it would be wonderful if you and kittens can be BFP buddies.

Cartoon a big welcome to the thread and I really hope you get sine answers. Yes he wants everyone to take those at first and will then tailor treatnent based on results. Did you have your tests done? Let us know the outcome! And please do hang around and chat/ask questions as everyone is usually very welcoming and helpful.

PQ that sounds potentially stressful! Hope we can hand a good chat about it in person next week. If you are on bed rest I will come visit...

Sarah yes to meeting locally too, will pm you my email address do we can chat properly.

Got to run but lurking and wishing well to all xx

scooterchaser · 11/08/2012 01:03

Sorry to go quiet again, had friend staying and we've been on a massive keep self busy marathon and trying to join in some olympic excitement as we missed out on tickets. Hyde Park open water swimming was fPree today and we followed that up with an IKea trip. V effectively keeping my mind of this horrible week. Lots going on on here in the meantime.

Belly so sorry to hear you're recovering from another mc, was my fifth too. I never thought I'd be saying that. I really hope the ERPC gives you some answers and glad you are feeling strong enough to start thinking about next steps.

LJ small victory for getting off the pred, can I ask how quickly you
weaned? Were you on 40mg? I have been told 5mg every four days and it will take me into September :-( I wasn't watching the thread when you went through your mc, just to say in solidarity, I'm so sorry. I hope you get some answers from the analysis.

pq along with the others, really hoping its just a false positive and your bub is sticking it out in there a while longer. Hope you are managing to take things quietly, not easy with a 3yo! How tough for you with the scare and having to get through that difficult anniversary, hope having your family staying has been helping you to rest. Btw I didn't have you down as a rower; synchronised swimmer maybe, dine out on that :) :)
Thanks for offering to draft a letter, that's sweet of you but you have enough on your plate. It wasn't the midwives or EPU I dealt with; the specialist midwife working with Mr S at Epsom has been fantastic. It was one A&E nurse that I came across who handled everything so badly. Aside from the massive mistake I have never had so little comfort or care straight after a mc. Almost trying conscientiously not to be sympathetic. Makes me so angry because kindness doesn't cost anything does it but it makes a world of difference. I suppose it's just an 'all in a day's work' thing.

DUGGS !!! Wasn't expecting that news, really hope over the next few days your line gets more and more liney! Everything crossed, really hopeful for you! Thanks for all the tests info, I am compiling quite a list now, although realistically we are priced out of quite a lot of them.

ari thanks for the testing info too. I think I will ask at my follow up at the end of September, which further tests he will authorise. I am NHS so doubtful but it's worth a shot.

cartoonface hi and welcome but so sorry to hear about your losses. The aspirin, vitamin, pregnacare schedule is for everyone and then he adds in steroids (and/or other drugs) at different doses depending on the NK levels they find in your blood tests which should come back in a few weeks - let us know how you get on.

kittens my moonface happens gradually from 6 weeks and then is very suddenly obvious during the weaning off period (what would have been 8/9/10wks) in true law of sod. Currently its quite pronounced. Hopefully by then you will be weaning off the steroids in better circumstances and will be too pleased to care! :) In the meantime, anyone hears of auditions for the next chipmunks movie, I'm perfect ;)

Hi to lurking busy mummy free give little DS a cuddle from his pred thread fans. All the babies still hope and inspiration for those like me back at the start of the road again.

duggs1976 · 11/08/2012 05:58

Oh yes those Olympic tickets are the "hottest" in town. Can't get near em! Good For U scooter. Afraid - in line with my crappy luck -there is clearly NO line whatsoever this morning with fmu and first response ER. Since read bad things about the Walgreen tests and deceptive lines. Sigh. 11DPO still early but wtf of course nothing is simple. Hot day today having BBQ DH cooking - I'll be moping! Par for the course. How r u kittens?

Havingkittens · 11/08/2012 10:18

Oh duggs, I'm sorry to hear that. Still very early days though so still keeping my fingers crossed.

I have been very calm and serene until now. Today I am having a bit of a mentalling wobble. I am 5 weeks and I don't really feel any symptoms. There is the insatiable thirst and night time weeing (although that's been reduced over the last 2 nights), but then you get that with pred anyway. Worried that I should, even under normal circumstances, be feeling a lot more tired than I am.

The end of this job is finally in sight. I have been batting away all sorts of stuff from my head to try and keep focussed on the job. From the mentalling about my first BFP in 20 months to thinking about my mum and the fact that her ashes and a big case of her stuff are waiting for me at my auntie's and the fact that I've not seen my poor old confused granny for 3 weeks. I have a few more days of stoicism and then I feel like I'm going to fall into a big blubbing pile! I wonder if I'll last that long. Doesn't feel like it at the moment.

scooterchaser · 11/08/2012 17:45

kittens thinking of you, the first few weeks are so hard. I wish I could wish the mentalling away for you, its relentless. FWIW I would never take heed of pregnancy symptoms again, I thought I had just as many signs I was pregnant with this one when it was the only one which didn't develop at all. I was astounded I hadn't picked up it was failing, hypervigilant as I am in pregnancy these days. By that logic, your little bean is hopefully ticking away perfectly well and just being kinder to you than you expected. Life has got strange when you would rather be throwing up in style every morning and needing to go to bed at 3pm but I know I would have found that comforting!! I know you will finish up at work fine and then not descend into a blubbing pile because you are such a very brave and stoic person, have faith in yourself, you have been through so much and still standing. Take heart & sending hugs your way x

Havingkittens · 11/08/2012 19:21

Thank you scooter. So kind. Actually, I didn't make it to the end of the job. I actually burst into tears immediately after that post this morning!

I've been quite dizzy and had a spell where I thought I was going to hurl over one of the presenters so that was reassuring at least. I have a few hours off this evening so I've come home to eat some of my own cooking and see my OH, cat and home. I can't even begin to express how nice that is! I've also just found out that I have to get out of the park before the closing ceremony as they won't be letting anyone in or out until it finishes, which is a huge relief as I have to be up for work at 6am on Monday and wasn't looking forward to that after getting home at 1am. Now it looks like I'm going to get a decent night's sleep. That is provided my body clock isn't stuck in a going to bed at 1am rut!

How are you holding up? Keeping busy, I see, but hopefully indulging yourself in some TLC too. Sending some hugs back to you too. xx

duggs1976 · 12/08/2012 07:43

Hope you got some decent rest last night kittens. AF arrived this morning cd25? Oh well saved me testing again! Hope all ok any testers out there?

PQ77 · 12/08/2012 11:59

Argh duggs that's disappointing Sad . But can I just be a real pain in the ass and ask if you think it could be implantation bleeding? I had never had it and thought it was some kind of mumsnet/Internet myth until this 8th pregnancy when I had it about 2 days before my af was due - and it was quite heavy.

kittens you're on the home stretch with this job ...hang in there! In re moon face - I just got some holiday photos developed from when I was 12-13 weeks and that must have been when it was quite noticeable, after I had stopped the pred. It was well gone by 16 weeks.

scooter that's terrible you were treated unkindly by that one nurse. I have been so lucky with all my ups and downs to only have one gp who was less than sympathetic to me 5 years ago now about a mc and I still refuse appts with her for me or for ds and can't look at her when I see her at the gp surgery. One persons off hand manner /unkindness can really affect you for a long time when you are in such a vulnerable state. Have you got things planned to do this week? Is your Dh on holiday?

free still plan on seeing you tomorrow, no labour symptoms today, fingers crossed...

Big hello to everyone else x

Havingkittens · 12/08/2012 12:25

Oh damn, duggs! I'm sorry Sad.

Well, this is it. 6 hours left on this job and then back to normality! Well, sort of normally. The kind that includes mentalling!

Thanks for the moon face info. I suppose being able to blame meds for being bloated is one way to put people off the scent!

batteryhen · 12/08/2012 16:34

Hello everyone. Very quick post from me, I had me section on Friday :) am now back at home with my very gorgeous DS. he weighed 7lb 14 and is perfect. I go from grinning to crying in seconds, and am having a few problems with feeding but otherwise we are doing fine :) sorry for lack of personals xxxx

GreenOlives · 12/08/2012 17:31

Battery That's fabulous news! Grin Congratulations to you all Thanks The grinning to crying thing sounds very familiar - I was exactly the same after DS! Feeding is difficult at the start so don't despair, hopefully you'll get into the swing of it soon and there's always formula if not Smile

BellyD · 12/08/2012 19:36

Battery congratulations! Wonderful news for you and Mr B. Glad you are both home so you can enjoy your new little son. Hooray! X

PQ77 · 12/08/2012 19:55
