Had a search for a may BFP thread and couldn't see one (please correct me if there is!) so thought I'd start one..

curiousgeorgie - TTC #2 - Testing April 29th

Anyone with me?

OP posts:
toobreathless · 21/04/2012 22:04

Impressed at the stamina of all you lovely ladies! We have been sporadically DTD but probably not enough as I have no idea if I have ovulated or what cycle day I'm on.

DD first birthday party went well, I will need a month to recover though. Have DTD & following it up with marshmellows & smarties for good measure. Also watching 19 kids & counting (I know, I know!) hoping some of Michelle's ridiculous fertility will brush off on me Grin

Anybody starting to to symptom spot yet?

StephieFranks · 21/04/2012 22:15

Hey Jennifer, it seems we may have similar cycles of 35 days (ish, i think, maybe...) what CD do you tend to ovulate? As i'm on CD 21 now, temping has been inconsistent this month and temp has been dropping last couple of days..... All negatives on OPKs and def no EWCM. Has ur OV days differed much from cycle to cycle? Total newbie as it's first cycle ttc, any info/ advice gratefully received!!

wishfulthinking1 · 21/04/2012 22:30

Toobreathless- don't get me started on the symptom spotting! I managed to convince myself I was having OV pain this morning. I also decided I might have a metallic taste in my mouth- it was about 3 minutes after we'd dtd and it was morning breath! I'm only on cd8- have no idea what I'll be like on 2ww!!! X

I have a question: lots of websites say a couple with no fertility problems will have 25% chance of conceiving in each cycle. Do you suppose that's just a normal 'let's shag and see' couple. If you're counting cycle days and monitoring mucus and shagging lots will you have more than 25% chance?

Also- (sorry - a lot of questions! No one in real life knows we're trying before the wedding so can't ask anyone!)... Why are chances only 25%? Fertility problems aside, why doesn't it happen - if sperm is in pipes and an egg comes down why is there only a 25% chance?

X

winkle2 · 21/04/2012 23:15

CD20 and I got my smiley on CD16 - am I still fertile? Should I go for one more try tonight?

RightUpMyRue · 21/04/2012 23:42

winkle- get shagging.

wishful I assume the 25% chance is because of the possibility of a whole number of factors like mis-timing intercourse/rubbishy sperms/not ovulating/no fertile mucous etc. All the condition shave to be right to acheive a pregnancy and often they're not all at the same time.

It stands to reason if you're charting, watching out for EWCM, DTD lots and your OH has been taking care of himself to ensure healthy sperm that the 25% should rise. I don't know what to but it should give you better chances.

Unfortunately the chances don't rise with each cycle. CD1 means back to square one. If it didn't I'd have something like 350% chance of getting pregnant this cycle Smile

winkle2 · 21/04/2012 23:55

Oh god I can't CBA but I will!! Roll on unfertile period!!

wishfulthinking1 · 22/04/2012 08:43

Lol @ winkle- you're an inspiration!!! Seriously though, your 'have more sex' mantra makes all the sense in the world. We can pop all of the tablets and read all the books we like- but only the shagging will get us pregnant.(I mean, I know it's obvious, but it's easy to direct your energies on the wrong things!?)

Something daft- obviously I love OH, massively, I can't wait to be married to him- he's such a wonderf man. But since we've been trying to concieve he seems even more important to me, and his health is even more important. E.g in the past if he had a big fry up on a Saturday AND Sunday morning I'd probably roll my eyes and make some sort of witty sarcastic comment, but now it's all I can do to stop pumping him with vitamins- I refused to let him have another fry up (which he took in fairly good humour!) I've bought him vitamin tablets, am making valiant efforts to make sure be has his 5-a-day. Almost overnight, his health (which has always been paramount) just seems SO much more important- I'm like an obsessed woman brandishing fruit! I even forced him to go on a bike ride last week (read this morning that mountain biking is not good for sperm- so it'll be hiking next week!)

I just feel a massive responsibility to him, as the father of my future children, and a responsibility to the actual future children to keep him healthy.

I'm a one-woman, mucus-monitoring, carrot-brandishing, shag machine and I'm exhausted!!

X

LittleMissSnowShine · 22/04/2012 09:12

@wishful - i'm like that with OH sometimes lol he loves a few beers at the weekend and a crafty ciggie or two, and normally i just think, ok whatever, since he's good during the week about eating whatever is put in front of him, taking his vitamins, hitting the gym etc. But now we're ttc again i'm all argh, cut back on the drinking, is that smoke i smell ha ha Tho i did read in zita west that whatever diet changes etc a man makes it takes 3 months before it affects his sperm so this month's batch should be reflective of whatever was going on in January - and we were on a pretty effective detox in January after the excesses of xmas so hopefully this month's stuff is super strength!!

@rue - it's like the lottery , no matter how many tickets u might buy some idiot can buy one for the first time and scoop the jackpot - pain!!

@breathless - happy birthday to your DD, such a great milestone :)

@Stephie - My last cycle was a long one too but i think, tbh, with a lot of ladies with longer cycles the OV date can move around a bit. i'm told charting does help to pinpoint when it is and to help you predict when it's likely to happen, but the bottom line is for ladies with a 28 day cycle who usually OV on CD14, this might be more or less the same month to month, whereas ladies with a longer cycle tend to be more likely to OV on diff days each cycle. But you can get round worrying about which day is OV day by just DTD plenty throughout your cycle...

Which seems to be the new policy on this thread Grin

CD19 for us today, wish i'd done a better job at temping this month cos now i might be in the position where this is going to be a normal length cycle, which means i might have OV 5 days ago and i might only be 5 or 6 days away from getting a BFP. or I might not have OV at all yet!!! but don't know either way so, yes, sigh, have to just keep DTD until AF arrives or doesn't

winkle2 · 22/04/2012 09:58

We started but couldn't finish if you get what I mean?! Hubs was too knackered!! We have dtd 7 times in 11 days so we MUST be covered.

I'm the same with my hubs, been nagging him for months about cutting back drinking and he finally has this month. So pleased :)

morecoffeemorecoffee · 22/04/2012 10:16

Hi everyone. Good to see everyone is dtd lots! Hope we get our bfps this cycle!

Well, we have been talking about what else we could change about our lifestyle to increase our chances of a bfp. We decided that I will quit my job! I work nights and its definitely affecting my health as I'm tired all the time, get a lot of migraines and I also get quite stressed out that my job is affecting other things (eg lack of quality time with our dc and our house is always a mess!) So we thought the lack of stress and migraines and increased sleep has to help! Fingers crossed!

morecoffeemorecoffee · 22/04/2012 10:19

winkle just saw your post above! I'm sure you're covered! It is so hard to keep going when you're tired and not in the mood!

RightUpMyRue · 22/04/2012 12:27

Wow morecoffee, a big decision but sounds like a good one, lets hope it works!

LittleMissSnowShine · 22/04/2012 13:52

morecoffee - so you'll be getting more zzz, dtd more and needing less coffee? good plan! yes, it's a big decision but if it's causing you stress, migraines and you're exhausted, realistically if would be very difficult to keep it up when you're pg and tough as a new mum so what better time to give up. hope it works out well for you!

winkle - ehmmm, yeah, you're doing good!! i think we're at about 6 times in 10 days so i'm....errr...feeling your pain Wink we deserve military decorations at least, hopefully this will be BFP month!!!

just spent the morning tearing DS's room apart, taking his cot apart, removing any potentially harmful stuff and building his new bed. it's nap time at the min and i can hear little feet pattering stomping around upstairs but no crying so think he's happy with the new set up. me and DH on the other hand, we're hungry and knackered!! but back to DTD tonight again regardless lol have to get to your record winkle (and i don't even know if i've OV yet!)

Hai1988 · 22/04/2012 15:44

Keep up the good work winkle and everyonr else around ov day x

winkle2 · 22/04/2012 18:53

Morecoffee - I wish I could give up work, sounds great!

Littlemisssnowshine - what cycle day are you on?

I'm in the 2WW now :) No more shagging yaay

Got a potentially boozy weekend coming up next weekend so may test next Friday. Which will technically still be April....

Symptom spotting here already - firstly I got up at 8.45 this morning when I usually surface around midday at the weekend. Body preparing itself for those early mornings of motherhood?! Secondly I had a nap in the afternoon which is totally cause I'm tired and preg and not cause I got up early (for me) right?!

tedmundo · 22/04/2012 18:57

Hi ladies, is there anyone on here tonight or are you already set up in your lairs ravaging your DHs?

I entered my fertile period last night I think so have racked up another sesh. Now managed cd 7, 9, 11 and 13 and will try to include cd 14, 15 and 16 too if that is possible .

I HAVE to believe this is increasing our chances girls. SURELY??

Still no positive on the opks but i have had a tiny amount of EWCM and anyway, I know I am not using the best 4 hr wee for them anyway.

If I don't get a positive opk, we will just keep shagging until AF turns up or I taste metal. I think my testing date is going to be later than the 9th May now. Hey ho.

DH stupidly said "so you have not ovulated yet - what does a couple of days matter?". If I didn't need his swimmers so much right now, that would have earned him a kick in the nads.

Days are feeling like weeks. Anyone else feeling like time has turned to treacle??

tedmundo · 22/04/2012 19:00

Morecoffee - sounds like a wise plan to stop working, at least for now. I am a SAHM and have never regretted it.

Lonely and boring sometimes for sure - but I see my working friends try to juggle both sides of their lives and it looks very very hard.

I admire working mums from the bottom of my heart.

winkle2 · 22/04/2012 19:50

Go tedmundo!! Lots of sex is the way - good luck!

toobreathless · 22/04/2012 19:54

Tedmundo: wow that is a lot of DTD!

Morecoffee: that is a big decision? Bet you're feeling relieved now.

Interesting talking about work, I go back in ten days (on maternity leave at present.) DH will be away Monday to Friday starting next week & I work full time, with a 45 minute commute plus weekends, long days and night shifts. I am terrified: that I won't see DD, that I won't do my job properly, that childcare is going to be a nightmare & that my chances of conceiving will be effectively zero with all the above limitations. The plan at present is to conceive ASAP, take mat leave at 28 weeks (as early as possible) & go part time after number 2.
Also moving literally as far as you can while still staying in England in August to add to my stress. Luckily same employer so no issues with potential mat pay there.

Anybody else wanting a BFP so much it aches at the moment?

wishfulthinking1 · 22/04/2012 19:58

Morecoffee- wow, that's radical step! Are you going to stop straight away?

Tedmundo- know what you mean about time moving slowly- I'm almost looking forward to going to work tomorrow so I have something else to think about!!

Winkle- have a well earned break!!

Another shagging question!!... So, I get the principle of dtd eod so there's always sperm in the tubes. Would dtd every day increase chances? And why? Of oh has not so strong swimmers (no reason to believe this is the case - just being paranoid!) would doing it every day make a difference?

Thanks in advance if anyone knows the answer!!
X

winkle2 · 22/04/2012 20:19

Wishful how many days are you planning on dtd every day? Throughout cycle?

blueblizz · 22/04/2012 20:32

Hi everyone. I've been reading this thread for a while cos I'm in the same boat. It is great to know there are loads of us in the same position (s'cuse the choice of words there!) I'm ttc#2 after m/c just after Christmas. I was doing ok for the first few months after but now I'm finding each time af comes bloody upsetting. My af is due beg of May so I'll go for

Blueblizz - TTC#2 - testing 6th May

Can someone add me on please? Good luck to us all. x

winkle2 · 22/04/2012 20:35

Toobreathless - a lot to juggle but so many other mums do it so no reason why you can't also. It will be a bit manic at first but you'll soon settle into a routine. I'm with you in the wanting a baby SO badly. I'm 33, been with my hubs 9 years and married for a year SO IT'S MY TURN!!

JoyfulJoyful · 22/04/2012 21:05

Hello ladies, May I please join you? TTC #1. Thought I was pregnant but AF showed up yesterday which came as a huge disappointment but somehow grateful for it.

Thought I nailed it this month as I ovulated on CD12, well i felt the pain on the CD12 which I think means that is the day I ovulated. We DTD everday from CD7 till CD14. I am so confused with regards to this ovulation process because I DTD on the 1st of Jan CD9 then ovulated on CD10 & 11. I concieved in that cycle which completely threw me off as I didn't expect my egg to 'catch' DH's sperm 2-3 days later. I had a 28 day cycle pre MC but now seem to have a 26 day cycle.

For those using OPKs, when you get a smiley on the CB Digi, does that mean ovulation has taken place or is about to take place? Please help, I feel as if this TTC process has taken up every inch of my brain.

blueblizz · 22/04/2012 21:13

Hi Joyful. In my experience we've been using OPK 2months now. I was convinced I must have got it sussed last month, smiley on days 11 and 12 dtd those days twice! and on day 13..... no pregnancy. I had 2x smiley faces day7 and then again day 12 this month. DTD both these days especially and after. If nothing happens this month its all a bit depressing. I'm 40 tho. I know I may not be releasing an egg every month (would I still get a smiley face on the kit tho?) In other words..... gives you an idea when you ovulate but it must still be chance that it actually happens. How long have you been ttc?
