Hi all, we're about to start FET following an unsuccessful round of ICSI last year (well, we got the bfp, but then I miscarried shortly after Sad). But... time to get back on the bike and go again...

Anyone else going through this?

care check our dr sher the sher institute in USA. ESP you tube video about CGH testing. No perfect embryos or blastocysts cannot be seen unless you have chromosonal testing. It should make more dr dr after u see the video. Where is raspberry we r waiting for her results.

duggs1976 · 27/03/2012 20:33

Sorry more sense after video

lumili · 27/03/2012 20:38

Care I was singing and dancing to the latest Pink album.... then I listened to some of Olly Murs - maybe I shouldn't be admitting to that bit :) I know what you mean about feeling as though you have run 22 miles of a marathon and now you want to lie down. I still feel like that and we found out 2 weeks and a half weeks ago that it didn't work. However, you are now making steps towards your next treatment, if this helps you to get through it, then that is good. Are you going to wait a while or are you just going to try again straight away? As to the Chromosome issues, sorry I can't help you with this as I am also clueless about this subject. It is something that my DP and I have not been told about by our clinic, however I am thinking that maybe we should look into this?? Camping sounds fun, although I am not really a big camping fan, I camped at the V festival 4 years ago and hated it - it was raining and all the rain was coming into the tent and making everything wet. It was probably the fact that our tent only cost £40. The next time I went camping I did enjoy it, however we arrived at the site and the tent was already made up for us and there were camp beds in there and you could stand up, it was also sunny the whole weeked. Sorry here I am rambling on... that is because I am supposed to be preparing a presentation for tomorrow and I don't really want to do it!!

lumili · 27/03/2012 20:43

care one more thing.... thanks for the words of wisdom from your meditation cd - it is very hard to let go of the hurts though isn't it! I think for myself this being the third time that the IVF didn't work, it is the most difficult one to get over, I guess its because the other times we knew we had another round paid for so we could try again, this time we don't know what the next move is.

Raspberryjam · 27/03/2012 21:09

Hi Ladies,
Sorry not posted til now - I loved the song tooCare - really addictive. Hope you are ok.
Great news Angel Fairy that you can start the stim drugs.

Good news from the clinic so far today. So of the 7 embryos that we got -
4 have normal chromosomes (they test the contribution from the egg in the type of test we did called the polar body) and 3 of those are developing well but not yet blastocysts. One is developing very slowly. Then there is another developing well but which we weren't able to get a result on the chromosomes. Two had very abnormal chromosomes - but interestingly look to be developing normally. Apparently that was a good ratio of abnormal/normal for my age. There is a link on the GCRM website about their egg screening service which started recently.

www.gcrm.co.uk/screening.htm

Care - we decided to pay for the test privately as although I had 8 eggs last cycle nothing fertilised and we were worried it was because of a higher proportion of abnormal eggs with age . So in our case there are potentially two blastocysts there which we wouldn't replace due to the chromosome result.
I just have to hope now that of the 3 with a normal result or the one with no result, they make it to blastocyst now.
I'm going to get a phone call tomorrow morning to see how they are doing and all being well have to go in tomorrow afternoon - still another hurdle tonight.
Nervous but so far the clinic was reasonably optimistic - the embyologists were really fantastic .

I had some acupuncture this afternoon and plan to go tomorrow afternoon if transfer goes ahead. Really busy morning at work tomorrow but just need to stay calm and remember to drink lots of water.

hope everyone enjoyed the sunny day today.

lumili · 27/03/2012 21:17

raspberry that is great news, my fingers are crossed that your 3 embryos with the normal results keep on developing through the night and turn into lovely blastocysts. Good luck for the call in the morning.

Raspberryjam · 27/03/2012 21:23

Thanks lumiliI appreciate it - hope your presentation goes well tomorrow - it is amazing how anything else can be more interesting/distracting than doing a presentation !

CareBear1 · 27/03/2012 21:28

Raspberry that's great news, have everything crossed for you, good luck!! x

lumili · 27/03/2012 21:30

Raspberry apologies if you have already told us before, how much was the chromosome test that you had carried out, was just wondering if it was something that we should consider if we decide to give it another go? You are right about the presentation, I took the day off work today to prepare for it and found myself cleaning the house for 2 hours :) I really hate presentations and am so so nervous, but no where near as nervous as I am sure you must be whilst you wait for that call in the morning.

Raspberryjam · 27/03/2012 21:40

Thanks Care - was reading back in the posts - glad you made an appointment and you can hopefully get some answers.

lumili - the test is really expensive - the prices are on the GCRM website too - but it is over 2K- which when you add it to an ICSI or IVF cycle really mounts up - but on the other hand if it means saving not having additional cycle or potentially problems further down the line - then there are emotional and financial savings. I realise I am very fortunate and that not everyone will be abe to afford this. Hopefully with time the cost will come down as it is still relatively new. I think there was a story although I don't have a link about a patient who had 13 ? failed attempts and had egg testing via Care - and had a healthy baby - an amazing story - I'll try to find the link.
I don't know how much it costs via Care in ? Nottingham - but I imagine is in the same region.
It can be done with a standard ivf cycle and replace eggs on day 3 too.
On the GCRM website - they do mention its usefulness with older age, repeated implantation failure and miscarriage.

Raspberryjam · 27/03/2012 21:42

I hate presentations too lumili* and end up cleaning the windows instead. Just think how good it will be when you have done it though.....

duggs1976 · 27/03/2012 21:44

Great News raspberry have been waiting for your post tentatively. That proves to me the worth of the test. It is just random luck if you hadn't had it done that the bad chromosonal ones went back or not. I have egg collection Friday and if all goes well -CGH testing results back next Tuesday with transfer Wednesday. This is the main reason I am doing ivf as my past 3 pregnancies have been natural but no good with bad chromosomes. All the best of luck to you. Keep us posted. Grin

Raspberryjam · 27/03/2012 21:49

Thanks so much duggs - no guarantee and this game is a lottery - but if it increases the chances.....................I'm with you on that. Really excited for you about being all go soon. Hope all is looking good for Friday - do you have a scan tomorrow then?

Raspberryjam · 27/03/2012 21:53

Found the news link
www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1320895/Healthy-babies-born-using-new-egg-screening-technique.html

Mentions the patient who had 13 failed attempts!!!

lumili · 27/03/2012 21:57

raspberry thank you for the link, that is veery interesting. I will see if they offer that at my clinic.

duggs so you have egg collection on Friday, that is good news, hope it all goes well.

duggs1976 · 28/03/2012 07:43

hey guys, this is another intersting CGH link.. apologies for it's promotional nature, but there are some intersting facts in it :

JosieSmith1 · 28/03/2012 11:35

Lumili I completely agree that singing and dancing around the house can really cheer you up Smile Music can have a good influence on your mood. P.S. Olly Murs is fab, he gets me dancing Grin

Care I?m so sorry, but it?s good that you?re going out cycling, hopefully it will take your mind off things even if just for a short period. It?s good that you?ve still got some blastos in the freezer, there?s every chance they could be sticky, and it?ll be a little bit easier on you than going through a whole IVF cycle again

That?s great news Raspberry I hope your phone call tomorrow heralds good news too. Remember to breathe...Smile

Scan this morning went really well!!!!! I?ve got 2 follicles measuring 15mm each and my womb lining has thickened right up! So I?m scheduled for IUI on Friday afternoon!! I nearly cried when the nurse told us, I was so happy! So in theory we should have 2 eggs being released instead of one as was originally predicted. And then the dreaded 2ww ready for a test on Friday 13, dum dum duuuuum! The nurse was really lovely and was really positive. She also said that if it wasn?t successful, they?d have a really good discussion with us about whether or not another cycle of IVF is a good idea. So at least they?ll consider it rather than just saying no as I was originally lead to believe. I?m so unbelievably excited, and, and, three more injections tonight then that?s it!! Whoopeeee!!!!!! GrinGrinGrinGrin

AngelFairy · 28/03/2012 11:36

Hey lovelies...

Raspberry I have been thinking about your embryos all morning... I hope they're dividing well x

I'm reading about this CGH testing, as it's all new to me, and I'm finding the science fascinating, but of course now I have some questions.
Q. Is there an equivalent test for sperm? Or is the polar removed after fertilisation?
Q. Do you need to be undergoing treatment with London, Manchester or Nottingham for these tests to take place, or is it worth checking with your existing clinic to see whether they have a contract with them?

Wahoo...Duggs for your EC tomorrow. How very exciting!! Grin

Your determination is inspiring Carebear I hope you're also supported outside of MN x

AFM, I can't wait to start stimming tomorrow night. Apparently..... (!!) my clinic prefer you to start on a Thursday to allow for (where possible) avoidance of weekend procedures Hmm

I have been joining in on the daily screaming at the top of my voice singing. I have (ashamedly) been listening to a NOW compilation Blush
Punctuated by some decent hits of yesteryear x

AngelFairy · 28/03/2012 11:41

Sorry Duggs my mind is stuck on it being Thursday (I want to start stimming!) - Good luck for EC on FRIDAY Smile

X post Josie - Fab news re your scan today!! I am so happy for you... Here's a successful conception and quick 2ww x

Thank you both, I'm so excited! I've got Friday afternoon off work, then I'm off the following Monday, and of course then it's easter so a couple of short weeks, hopefully I can keep plenty busy and the 2ww will fly by!

zeebee1 · 28/03/2012 15:08

JOSIE so happy for you Grin Wow - IUI on Friday - that's in 2 days! BRILL! Take it easy in your 2WW - put your feet up and relax and get some box sets in!

Raspberry hope your embryos have been dividing nicely - i've been reading all about CGH - i feel like an expert now Wink thanks for all that info! In fact I did ask Guys about CGH testing our remaining embryos that were frozen (after our 1st failed IVF round) and they said "do you really want us to be poking your embryos about at the stage they are in" so perhaps you can't do CGH testing on frozen embryos - only fresh ones?

Angel thank you for that link - i've been rubbing my shins hoping to bring on a bit of juicy-ness.... the patch is really wierd - seems to be giving me pain in my front Blush - I guess it's all the blood that is being encouraged to flow around! GOod luck with your stimming from tomorrow!

jumping and Karbea how is the 2WW going?? are you managing to stay
sane - ish? [mental emoticon face]

care thinking of you - hope the sunshine is helping a little bit... Who is Mr S BTW ?

waves to everyone else - hope you are all OK
x

duggs1976 · 28/03/2012 15:57

angel they test the embryo polar body do covers sperm. Most bad seem not to make it to fertilisation.

duggs1976 · 28/03/2012 16:11

Oh and jose fab news! 2 is perfect for IUI! So pleased for u some dr should really be careful being so dismissive with these big decisions. Am v pleased for u as whatever the outcome u r an IUI candidate and it only takes one egg Grin
