Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

We are all jolly well going to get preggers this month in a nonchalant non-psycho way, and hang onto it, and there will be no brooking of any argument whatsoever!

Welcome across Rat Smackers! Glad you found the place okay. This is THE MONTH when we get those deceitful pee sticks to own up to the BLINDINGLY OBVIOUS - we are all already preggers! After all; positive people get positive pee sticks!

I hope you all like what I've done with our new home

You'll note the updated title, courtesy of farfalla. Various healthy snacks have been set out on the coffee tables, to ensure our bumps are receiving the appropriate nutritional balance

Also, my personal favourite adjustment, you'll note the strategically positioned peephole, right here, providing us with a sneaky preview of the utopian delights awaiting us in the NO BROOKING vomitorium ante-natal thread.

So let's get to it preggos! Remember: see a rat - smack it!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 02/08/2011 10:51

Hello Imps!! Good to have you back.

for Ninja and Mucho. Having only just got rid of AF myself I know how gutting it is. However THIS is the THE MONTH for all of us! I think I spent too much time last month relying on the mystical powers of this thread, and not enough time actually BROOKING NO ARGUMENT! I can be pretty no-nonsense in RL (believe it or not!) and I will be bringing all of my stubbornness determination to bear on this conception!

Security shagging commenced last night (it's now cd 5) and playing with opks / serious SWI'ing will be kicking in later this week! It is ON!

p.s. Imps when are you due to test?

OP posts:
Imps7 · 02/08/2011 10:53

Wow, well I think I have caught up now. Sorry to Maybe, Ninja and Mucho for your dastardly BFNs - those bloody faulty pee sticks get everywhere.

Farfalla - poor you and OH. I had a couple of freak-out "we must shag NOW" cycles right at the start and it was an unmitigated disaster. Shagging now is just as and when OH wants it - if he's in total control then he doesn't get performance issues. The feminist in me is screaming at the fact that I have let the male take control of when we have sex, but the pragmatist in me reassures myself that it's the only way!

Scream I am v glad you've picked yourself up and dusted yourself off - THIS IS YOUR MONTH AND NONE OF US WILL BE BROOKING ANY ARGUMENT ON YOUR BEHALF!!

I am officially on day 2 of my 8th month of pregnancy - my monthly gestational bleed turned up with a vengeance yesterday. There I was having a lovely day with my friends and then I went to the loo and in the space of 10 seconds I discovered the onset of AF and broke the zip on my favourite pair of trousers. I did want to creep away somewhere and have a bit of a mope but couldn't because we were staying with friends, but in the end I think that was properly for the best - I had a great rest of the day and didn't really give it much further thought. In any event, not being a Pee Stick Endorsed Pregnant Person this month is actually a Good Thing for the following main reasons:

  1. We are currently renovating our house and every spare penny is being spent on that - there's no way we could afford a baby and finish the house off and I really don't fancy living in a building site for ever more;
  1. I have Olympics tickets (yay!) so it would actually be much more convenient not to be heavily diffed or with new born when we go to the various events;
  1. Although April would have been my favourite month to have a baby, October is my second choice, so really I have another 6 months before my chosen due date. There are already far too many family birthdays in May, June, July and August;
  1. Errr, that's it actually.

Right, I have the rest of the day off work - may continue the baking theme of the thread. Any requests??

NinjaChipmunk · 02/08/2011 11:02

imps i'm on day 1, how long are your cycles usually? we could be cycle buddies!

Imps7 · 02/08/2011 11:08

I have quite long cycles - 31-34 days usually. Would love shorter cycles to pack more BFP possibilities into a year!

GenericDietCola · 02/08/2011 11:14

Hey Imps good to have you back, but sorry about af. Good to see you have many reasons to be cheerful though.

Re baking: could we have some carrot cake please? I have a craving (eek! What does this mean ?)

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 02/08/2011 11:16

I miss having cycle buddies! Is anyone else on/around day 5?

Baking requests, yum! Pretty please can we have banana bread? I spent six months working in Australia a couple of years ago, and it's left me with a lifelong addiction to banana bread!!

OP posts:
ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 02/08/2011 11:19

Sorry - posted a little too fast! I also wanted to pass on big hugs to Imps for the evil and untimely arrival of AF! It's great that you're staying so positive about it all though. Sounds like you'll be even MORE ready for miniImps when your BFP comes through this month!

OP posts:
Imps7 · 02/08/2011 11:19

Go on then - carrot cake and banana bread because you asked so nicely. Generic - you are most certainly having a pregnancy-based craving - good work!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 02/08/2011 11:33

I have no idea why banana bread is everywhere in Australia! I had never come across it in the UK before going, but in Sydney every coffee shop, every snack shop, every supermarket has the most YUMMY banana bread. Of course that has nothing to do with why I put on LOADS of weight while living in Oz, ahem.

Does the fact that I've been hooked on banana bread since 2009, and the fact that I haven't ovulated yet this cycle, mean I can't count my banana bread craving as a symptom? :( Well as an alternative I'll offer up the fact that yesterday my DH was really dizzy! That's clearly evidence that he's experiencing a sympathic pregnancy!! I'm so pregnant I'm making my DH feel the symptoms too!! Grin

GenericDietCola · 02/08/2011 11:40

Wow! Scream and I both requested a healthy baked treat: carrot cake and banana bread. Evidence of our impending knocked-up-ness hmm?

Thank you Imps

BabySade · 02/08/2011 11:49

Scream I'm on day 8 and have quite long cycles from 30 to 33 days so we could maybe be cycle buddies. I think I ovulate quite late I think about day 18.
I have never had banana bread but I assume I would like it as I love bread and bananas.
Right I'm off to work, god I want some maternity leave to look forward to!

Imps7 · 02/08/2011 12:01

Oooh BabySade we can be Ovulation Day Buddies (if such things exist) - I'm a Day 18 Egg Popper myself!!

Okay, I just need to get this off my chest - please could I ask you all to join me in my immense jealousy and pretend hatred of my best mate?? She has a not-quite 4 year old, a not-quite 2 year old and is 7 months gone with no. 3. All three babies were conceived in Cycle 1, with only one shag during the fertile window. All 3 pregnancies have been totally straightforward and (she says) easy, and she was in labour for less than 4 hours with both of her first two, both of whom were born in pristine condition and are now thoroughly gorgeous. She is a lucky lucky lucky lucky cow. Imagine only ever having had 2ww with happy endings??? Imagine never having known the stress of TTC after 3 children??? It was a little difficult being with her yesterday, I have to say, particularly as she often comments about how worried she is about being so fertile. Not that she would ever gloat or be smug about it, and if she knew I was TTC she would be completely supportive. But that doesn't change the fact that I am SO JEALOUS OF HER!!!!!!!!!

Right, glad I've finished that outburst - they always say that you shouldn't bake in a bad mood don't they?

muchostinky · 02/08/2011 12:16

Thanks ninja. Yeah early days I suppose, but I thought that I would have at least had a very faint line - but nothing. So I am just thinking that I am not, much easier to deal with than maybe.

We haven't been trying for long, a few months. But this time with a clear blue fertility monitor, so thought that I would have more of a chance.

CatAmongstThePoppies · 02/08/2011 12:25

Hello preggos!

I was wondering if I could join you? Have been lurking for a little while but it seems that Brooking No Argument whilst lurking isn?t doing the trick, as AF doesn?t seem to be getting the message!

Started TTC in January 2010 and had a mmc last October. Had a bit of a break from TTC afterwards for a few months, got married and have been SWI again since May. Currently on CD 8 and usually ovulate around CD 15, so I am getting ready to smack that rat good and proper this month - there will be no escape!

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 02/08/2011 12:45

Hey BabySade that's close enough for me! We can team up and SMACK that RAT at the same time!!

Imps that does sound incredibly frustrating! It's almost more frustrating because she's obviously a lovely person and therefore it's harder to truly wallow in the irritating-ness of it all! I have a friend from school who's a bit like that. We both decided (when we were 13) that our ideal scenario would be to meet "Mr Right" at uni, marry straight after uni, have baby 1 two years later, then baby 2 then baby 3. The first should be a boy and the other two should be girls. (This wasn't a serious conversation by the way!). Well my friend DID meet her DH at uni, they got married the summer she graduated, her DS arrived shortly after their 2 year anniversary and she's currently 6 months gone with a DD! Some people....!

Hellooooo Cat and welcome to the Rat Smacking Club! You've already started with the baking which is good, the next step is to get yourself a cheer leaders outfit and pompoms for occasions when we need a few rounds of What do you want?

GenericDietCola · 02/08/2011 13:20

Ooh cranberry and white chocolate cookies! Cat I think you and I are going to get along just fine.

Imps I totally understand your envy re your friend. BUT this is The Month and you are BROOKING NO ARGUMENT so in with the good and out with the bad and smack that rat!

scarletfingernail · 02/08/2011 13:37

Yum lovely cookie, thanks Cat and welcome to Brooking no Argument.

Sorry to hear about AF Ninja and Mucho. Ninja what timing, turning up like that just as you were dipping your expensive FR. You will get your own back on the evil witch next month what with it now being day 1 of your pregnancy.

Farfalla I hope you're feeling a lot better. I find sometimes a big row can have a positive effect, at least you now both now how the other feels.

CD16 here and still not ov'd. CBFM not moved from high to peak yet so DH and I are still on the shagathon. Getting a bit tedious now, but we will continue to smack those rats.

Imps7 · 02/08/2011 14:16

Oui oui Generic Je ne brooke aucun argument!! Le test-grossesse positif, c'est a moi!!

(Randomly bursting into French = symptom of diffedness??)

CatAmongstThePoppies · 02/08/2011 14:24

What do we want? Positive Pee Sticks! When do we want them? Now!

farfallarocks · 02/08/2011 14:26

imps totally unfair, I am Envy
for you!!

BUT if this TTC business has taught me something its that you can never judge what might be going on in someone's life, there may be other struggles and problems, who knows.

I know what you mean about the feminist side of you, I am so used to being in control in our relationship and this is something that basically, he needs to drive to some extent.

Feeling so much better about clearing the air, now I just need to work in a bit of make up sex! HA!

GenericDietCola · 02/08/2011 14:30

Ooh la la Imps you are well updiffed! Breaking out into spontaneous Francais = 'avec bebe'

On another note: I need to be preggers so I can look forward to maternity leave. I work full time and DH stays at home with DD. I do enjoy my job, but I wish I had a better balance - I don't feel I spend enough time with DD, but we need the money so I can't reduce my hours (I work from home one day a week so I can slack off and play with DD be more flexible about work that day).

My Grand Plan is that during maternity leave DH will have to work and will enjoy it and excel at it so that I can work fewer hours post mat leave or not work at all (mwah ha ha)

He is an artist y'see, working on commission, so he needs more commissions, but to do this, needs more time to tout his services, but looking after DD full time is, er, a full time job - argh! So if I was at home more (with minicola and DD) he could spend the time and would also get more confidence about his ability to provide etc, etc.

IT WILL HAPPEN because I have been being really positive and everything, lots of visualisation and barely no thought at all of not getting preggo this month.

GenericDietCola · 02/08/2011 14:32

Ha ha Farfalla love the plan re make up sex (and of course that will result in the conception of your future babe because we are living in a rom com here and that would be just perfect )

Hope so anyway.

scarletfingernail · 02/08/2011 16:42

"Go Farfalla Go Farfalla Go Farfalla"

Generic Love the way you've got it all worked out. It will happen!
