OP posts:
zippys · 18/08/2010 13:16

I am really sorry but I am going to be really rude and post another me me me post.

Has appointment at hospital today (thanks for remembering Flick) BAD news Sad

I am not rubella resistant so need a jab then no unprotected sex for 3 months! - consultant does not want to have to deal with a termination from me getting pregnant and having rubella Shock Yes thoses were her words. WHY OH WHY have they not tested me already I have been trying for over 16 months for god sake Angry

Then just to make matters worse DP sperm results were terrible- I have forgotten some of them but low count and also low morphology (I think although it could be mobility). Sad He is gutted and consultant was terrible she said I wasnt the problem - he was!

She gave v little guidance what to do other than cut down on alcohol and to go back in 4 months.

Then just to put the boot in a little further she tells me I need loose weight as dealing with overweight women on the labour ward is hard work for the staff - yes this was her parting comment after telling me
a- I cant have unprotected sex
b - we have no chance of getting pregnant due to DP sperm Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry

felicityFlick · 18/08/2010 13:36

:( Shock Angry :(

zippys You are not rude love. I can't believe that you also had such horrible treatment today. What she said to you is absolutely shocking.

Did she say when they could retest your DP? Will it be when you go back in four months? You could think about trying these fertilaid I know thatthey are expensive but I have read great reviews of them and have seen that they take about three months to work so there could be an improvement when you go back. Lots of people do get pregnant when their partner has problems with their sperm, after all it only takes one determined little fella. Perhaps someone with more experience of this will be along in a bit to gibe you some more info

With regards to the rubella thing, I can't imagine how frustrated and upset you must feel. How annoying that they have not tested you previously.

I'm gutted for you hon, I wish there was something I could say to make you feel better but I don't think there is :( Sending lots of love and thinking of you. xxxx

DessieLou · 18/08/2010 13:38

Blimey Zippys what a cowbag! So sorry it was bad news. I can't believe they left it this long to test you. And poor Mr Zippys. I really feel for you both. Sad

womanlytales · 18/08/2010 13:41

Oh dear zippy - I am so sorry for the experience you had... what's with these insensitive sods and their inability to conduct a humane, empathetic conversation??

Good that you've got the jab for Rubella. Terribly sorry for the news related to DP. I know I am broken in our ttc quest..and how terrible that can feel - BUT there is always hope. Perhaps these three months can be a good way to just let go off ttc and come back to the table fresh and ready and re-energized to get you both to your goal.

I can't wait for the patient feedback system to let the NHS know exactly how pathetically inhuman they really are!

Thanks garden and flick for your kind words and support - - I groan when I think of requesting another specialist because it will mean waiting 3 more months... I am going to stick with the Ogre and based on a positive monitoring for this first cycle contniue on by self-medicating myself... there is no other way out.

The ogre did ask about my DH's sperm tests and I freaked out thinking what if he's still digging for more evidence to continue being absolutely cruel..

LankyLegs · 18/08/2010 13:51

Oh no. Why are our lively frolickers getting bad news today?

Zippys am so bloody sorry to hear about your experiences - what ccks (sorry potty mouth but I don't care). As Flick* mentioned lifestyle changes can really improve sperm count and condition and since you can't have unprotected SWI for 3 months Angry at least you got your OH's results at the same time (sorry am trying to find light at the end of this tunnel for you). You have to think - what if you found about the rubella thing 3 months ago and then the sperm results - that would have been 6 months down the line. And let me tell you - that sounds like something the NHS would do with not thinking logically about things.

I absolutely detest the NHS sometimes - it really does amaze me. Also again - it only takes one little determined swimmer so don't lose hope. My DH's morphology was slightly below average at 11% I think - but we have not done anything about it - not sure you can with that one?

Wish I new what else to say.... you are in my thoughts and we are here anytime you want to chat.

Womanly well done you for getting your questions answered - but he sounds like an inhumane turd-wipe. Should you not be monitored (with scans etc) when on clomid? I have heard different areas do it differently - some monitor and some don't. What a load of poo you can't see him until October as well? Amn pleaed that clomid will help kick start ovulation for you though. Sending you lots of hugs.

Ugghh.....

slowshow · 18/08/2010 13:53

Did TanteAC utter the magic words "welcome drinks"? I would MURDER a margarita right about now. It would help the brain crushing boredom that is my job at the moment. I could also use it medicinally, y'know, for the pre-wedding stress Wink

Can I ask a few questions?

  1. Is it normal to get a thrill out of buying Pregnacare Conception for the first time?
  1. Is it normal to crippled with worry that you are, in fact, infertile? I have no reason to think this!
  1. How frequently do you panic and decide that TTC might not be such a good idea after all?

It's hard work being me.

gardenpixie · 18/08/2010 13:54

zippys I am appalled at your consultant. AWFUL.

First thing: great that you have now had the jab - but, as you say, why has it taken so long ...?

Second: poor Mr Zippys. But, don't panic. There are lots of things he can do to make his little chaps more chipper. Forgive me if you know all of this anyway but has he been told about:

Zinc - very important for the little chaps' overall health
Giving up smoking / excessive booze consumption - smoking in particular impacts on morphology
No hot baths - again, this can damage morphology (not as much as smoking though)
Exercise - bootsts testosterone levels so increases overall count
Eat lots of veg etc etc (overall health blah blah)
Drink lots of water to help get the right hormones to the right places

Not sure if any of those are helpful but those are things I've gleaned off various docs and friends along the TTC path!

Try testing just before you are out of your 3 month quarantine (as that's how long it takes sometimes to make an entirely new swimming team).

Shock that you weren't given any guidance on this.

IUI is also a really option if the counts stay low as they pick out the best ones and send them in (a bit like a crack squad of SAS swimmers - although I don't think they have to wear black lycra and raybans)

Really sorry you've had such a crap appt and rubbish consultant. For a caring profession, some of them can be right insensitive @rsewipes.

gardenpixie · 18/08/2010 13:57

Slowshow I can only speak from personal experience but ...

TOTALLY normal to feel excited about pregnacare conception (it's the law I think)

Likewise being worried about infertility! Especially if you have no reason to suspect it!

And I think I will still be wondering if TTC is the right thing to do by the time my twins (see previous post where I convinced myself that's what I was having) graduate!

Smile
zippys · 18/08/2010 14:04

Thanks everyone, you have made me cry again, but thats knowing the support I have on here. I must have got morphology bit wrong as he qas 99% and should be below 90%. I need to ring the doctors to book in for rubella jab so will ask when I go.

Womanly I wish these doctors could actually see what they are being like and realise they are insentitive! Angry Sending you loads of hugs too cheick.

Flick I will check the supplements out thanks for the link. I need to do some research and then I think I may feel a little better. We go back on 22 Dec - could be a great or crap xmas present. (quite depressingly I remember testing last xmas and hoping a baby would be my xmas present - oh well).

Lanky I agree re the 3 months thing, we have 3 months to sort ourselves out, to cut down on the alcohol and both stress less and slim down. I am bloody hoping that DP will pop the question and present me with my rock soon and then I can concentrate on that!

Thanks for thinking of DP too DessieLou DP actually asked if I wanted him to pack his bags Shock. But we will get though this together.

On the whole unprotected sex - DP HATES condoms (i know what man doesnt) so any other suggestions for the next three months?

JosieSmith1 · 18/08/2010 14:09

[shocked] [shocked]Oh my god Zippy that's terrible! You'd think they'd be a little more sensitive!

zippys · 18/08/2010 14:10

x post Pixie and Slowshow

Thanks so much Pixie for the tips - no we were not told all of these things- she was crap - just said get some vitimins (not which ones) and avoid hot baths. I dont know what I would do without this board Smile

See I can just smile!

SlowShow sorry not the best person to answer your questions right now Sad. How is the wedding planning going?

LankyLegs · 18/08/2010 14:13

Zippys Errr - withdrawal (I know I know not the best) but I wouldn't advise going back on the pill/implant/coil.... you know how long these things can take to get out of the system

I think It will be nice for you to have a break from the stress of it all for 3 months and just re-connect.

Like you said - if you have a wedding to plan... hurrah! Ultimate obsession on something else - defo helps. Bless your BP - I hope he is ok. I think women takes these things a lot better than men.

Sloegin as Garden said - totally normal to feel all those things but do try and relax and enjoy the process too! Some of us have been at it a while hence it all sounding like a planned mission every month!!

Garden how is the work going? I am done with my meeting but must focus on other things now!

LankyLegs · 18/08/2010 14:14

BP DP!

JosieSmith1 · 18/08/2010 14:25

Slowshow I'm exactly the same! I go shopping with my Mam though, who knows we'll be trying, but doesn't know that we're actually trying now, so DH is an expert on sneaking the pregnacare tablets into the trolley and onto the conveyor belt Grin. But it's is soooo exciting. I didn't worry about being infertile until we started ttc and didn't get pg first try! And yes sometimes I do worry that's we won;t be able to cope!

It's a minefield! Grin

gardenpixie · 18/08/2010 14:32

Hi lanky I am cracking through it! I have one more presentation to write, then a proposal and then it's fizz o'clock I think. Glad you got your meeting out of the way x

crazybutterflylady · 18/08/2010 14:43

Lanky who is sloegin? Hmm was that a teeny bit of a freudian slip?

crazybutterflylady · 18/08/2010 14:49

zippys that's appalling, really awful for you to have been treated like that :(

I am with lanky - pull and pray has worked for us for the past 3 years and you aren't going to mess your system up. If nothing else it may help you familiarise yourself with cycles and OV signs? Tell DP not to keep his mobile in his trouser pocket, no laptops on knee, and no standing in front of microwaves whilst they're on. My penniesworth. Oh and lots of tomatoes!

My nurse said ages ago that I should get tested for rubella before TTC... have you all been tested already? I totally forgot about it until you mentioned it and now I am a bit worried!

JosieSmith1 · 18/08/2010 14:50

My boss has just told us all that her 20wk pregnant daughter (unplanned with new boyfriend that boss didn't even know existed) is having a girl and is ecstatic. Yeah yeah, we're all over the moon Envy

TanteAC · 18/08/2010 14:53

zippys and womanly that is a DISGRACE. How rude of both your specialists, if nothing else!
And let's be honest, the rest of it is not nothing Angry
It takes a lot of energy to keep fighting, but chin up - it will all be worth it in the end.

garden what is your presentation about?

Grrr still so p*ssed off about those two specialists that I am going to mix a double strength jug of pornstar cocktails Angry

womanlytales · 18/08/2010 14:59

lol at the image of gin... cocktails all around ladies :)
slowshow -- Yes to Q1 and Q2 and don't know about Q3... I do get excited though looking at all the baby 'tools' at the pharmacy... [hmmm]

LankyLegs · 18/08/2010 15:05

Ha ha Crazy I renamed Slowshow Sloegin as thats what I thought of when I was writing her name...

I is wierd and booze obsessed Shock

I love your suggestion about the big box too! The problem is that they are huge! a 1.5 metre spirit level, tool bag and tool box thing... am thinking I will just buy some ribbon to tie to them.

Also purchased this

Boys love these things - so I have been told.

LankyLegs · 18/08/2010 15:09

Garden can I distract you with this

I think I am going to die and go to heaven with the new Selfridges Shoe Galleries....

TanteAC · 18/08/2010 15:12

ps felicity I teach English - high profile results Confused

And to be honest, I had a couple of , let's say, challenging classes this time round! Grin Bless them, I really am sweating about them being disappointed
Never gave a sh*t became overly tense about my own at the time, though!

What do you teach?

TanteAC · 18/08/2010 15:22

oooo lanky the shooooooooes!
Love shoes. I have some that I can't really walk in (a grade above even my 'taxi shoes') but I just put on to enjoy at home sometimes.

I was tutoring this 13 yr old boy once and I was wearing some fab new shoes. He said 'new shoes?' in the middle of his reading. I was surprised and said 'oh did you notice?! and he sad 'nah, I guessed because you keep looking at them' Blush Terrible.

CaveMum · 18/08/2010 15:52

zippys that is awful! Big (((hugs))) for you, bluddy insensitive Drs.

I third (or is it fourth) all the measures that have been mentioned to help your DP. I read in my research that it takes the testes about 70 days to manufacture sperm from start to finish, so any changes you make now will take a wee while to have an effect.

I have DH on these They are selling them in a combo pack with the Wellwomen Conception in Boots on a 3 for the price of 2 at the moment.

DH is a bit forgetful about taking his but I have so far resisted the temptation to grind them up in his food [stalker emotcion] Grin

I'd also suggest limited use of bicycles and laptops.
