I've spent the afternoon with a friend, and we've been planning our annual Christmas Shopping Extravaganza - it's become our default present to each other, brunch somewhere nice, a browse around the shops, coffee in a garden centre etc.

We don't actually buy much other than a few stocking fillers for our children, and a few little items here and there, but she asked me what I really really wanted for Christmas.

I said I would love a copy of Sense and Sensibility, preferable a dusty well thumbed paperback.

She wants a door stop.

Neither of us is being a grinchy bah humbugger, we're just quite happy with a little token gift. So what would you like?

I would love to do that 😂 but I reckon I’m too far away.

My hopes are dashed 😭😄

Dontsparethehorses · 30/10/2025 05:01

Oh I thought of another one - I’d love a gardener to come tell me how I can make best use of the beds and ideally help me get on top of the weeds!

I love the generous nature of mn on threads like these - really brings out the best in people 💗

Black knee high boots that I can zip up over my chunky calves - not designer just high street.

not tiny like a door stop but I don’t spend money on things like that for myself.

@MoonBugs have you seen duo boots. They do calf fitting boots (ie different calf widths)

Just for my darling dog to come back to life. Miss her every day.

😢x

thankgoditssaturday · 30/10/2025 06:20

Weight loss and I’m buying it monthly at the moment for myself.

ThisDearGoose · 30/10/2025 06:23

Tocca Cleopatra perfume in the 100ml variety. Also some Haighs chocolate. I think this is pretty achievable and I'll provably get it

Fantasy, someone to do Christmas for me eg food shop, present shop, decorations, wrapping up, cooking Christmas dinner. Reality, a new silver necklace.

Lovely thread OP.
I would like someone to take my battered car to be cleaned inside and out and returned to me. Just that.

Don't tell anyone else (because they'll think I'm weird) but I would absolutely LOVE to be a car spa person.

Getting a car neat and shining ✨️ ahhh I'd be in my element.

Fox cub & co honey, tobacco & tonka candle or Chloe EDP or a huge box of Lindt balls

Have you been to one of the Lindt shops? I've only been in one, but they had Lindt pick and mix!

I had to leave quickly, I've no restraint so a Lindt pick and mix would have been credit card melting.

I haven’t but I’ve seen it on YouTube and it’s my dream! I spend so much money on Lindt! It tastes so good!

watermybegonias · 30/10/2025 08:20

We have a Lindt shop near us. I had to buy Lindt balls in different flavours for wedding favours for my niece. I had a bag and was filling it up, 3 for each guest. A small child was watching me with eyes like saucers - I am sure he just thought I was a greedy mare!

DriveMeCrazy1974 · 30/10/2025 14:38

I just want a tin of large sodding pilchards in tomato sauce. Nowhere has them in stock on any of the online supermarkets! I think there's some weird lack of the larger ones this year or something. I've been looking for nigh-on 4 months now. I just really want some pilchards on toast (more so, because I've been unable to get any!). I don't like the little ones, and don't even eat the large ones all that often, but now they're seemingly out of reach, I really really want them!
God, I sound like a bratty child! Ha ha.

A lie down 😂

My sister got us a voucher for a pub meal and a city based experience last year, because I’d asked for the “gift of time.”

We’ve got enough “stuff,” and an exhausting life with a complex needs child.

That very rare weekend off and away for the night, child free, was I think the best gift I’ve received in a long time.

Far better than any material items.

I cottage on a remote island

I was going to write the same, but about my young adult son. He’s been struggling with his mental health for years. I’ve thrown everything I can at it, financially, emotionally, practically. I want him healthy and happy. That’s all I want.

I hope your son gets better. It's so hard isn't it?

There's been times this year, I didn't know if he'd make Christmas. At times like this, you realise that material things don't matter.

GinkoRebelFoxes · 31/10/2025 00:17

For anyone looking for the perfect slippers, I recommend Haflinger. Warm, with a robust sole, and arch support.

PearlTeapot · 31/10/2025 09:39

I got the perfect slippers from Costco a few weeks ago. Proper sole, they look like Uggs 'Razz' and are super soft inside.

I'd like:

  • Pandora charms (silver and gold)
  • Jellycats
  • Broken Society T-shirts- unisex 2XL
  • Craft buddy canvas diamond art 30x30 only
  • Jo malone or dipytique candle
  • White company 3 wick candle
  • Personalised Emma bridgewater mug
  • Plants
  • Rolife book nook
  • Sol de Janeiro sprays
Middlechild3 · 31/10/2025 17:32

An antique pine chest of drawers, 2 over 3.

MrsMitford3 · 31/10/2025 21:22

I have started making a list instead of just buying things-

gauntlet gardening gloves because the roses and blackberries fight back
a very good chopping knife
rattan tissue box cover as my delicate sensibilities can no longer look at naked tissue box
knife sharpener
AirPods that fit my ears

FrothyCothy · 31/10/2025 23:23

@MrsMitford3 Airpods fall out of my ears so I bought some silicon hook things from Amazon and now they stay put! There’s lots of different types but I like these ones www.amazon.co.uk/Proof-Labs-AirPods-Covers-Compatible-White/dp/B0844WPDY5

OP would you be interested in my 70+ year old mums hardback copy of Sense and Sensibility complete with award plate that she was presented at school?

I'm just about to charity shop it.

Oh my goodness..that is so very kind of you xxx

sashh · 01/11/2025 03:38

To find out what exactly is wrong with me. I had a few symptoms from randomly throwing up, to falling, pins and needles in my feet... more random stuff.

I've been to the 'Vague Clinic' - yes that is what it is called.

I have now had colonoscopy, almost an endoscopy, CT scan, a couple of X-rays and an ultrasound.

Ah the "vague symptoms pathway" unfortunately I know it well.

I hope you get some answers 💐

I’d like a new tap fitted in the kitchen. The one we have is awful.

And a bottle of Chanel Allure Sensuelle edp.

And ideally to stay home just me and him (dc at father’s house).
