What do you really want for Christmas?

I've spent the afternoon with a friend, and we've been planning our annual Christmas Shopping Extravaganza - it's become our default present to each other, brunch somewhere nice, a browse around the shops, coffee in a garden centre etc.

We don't actually buy much other than a few stocking fillers for our children, and a few little items here and there, but she asked me what I really really wanted for Christmas.

I said I would love a copy of Sense and Sensibility, preferable a dusty well thumbed paperback.

She wants a door stop.

Neither of us is being a grinchy bah humbugger, we're just quite happy with a little token gift. So what would you like?

I would like new slippers, the best slippers in the world, moneys no object type ( in my dreams)
im fed up with cheap ones that never seem to last

More time - I’m just so busy at the moment and it wearing me out. I took a couple of days off this week and by the time I’d taken my DD to a hospital appointment, done a food shop, sorted out some bits in the house, the days vanished.

I want to just sit quietly, read some books and relax.

endocolonoscopy · 29/10/2025 20:42

@ChipshopPickledEgg thank you that is really kind 💖

Exemptfromcontent · 29/10/2025 20:43

A miracle. Money. To find a way of our crippling debt and buy real, solid wood furniture and not chipboard shite from B&M for the rest of my life.

other than that, I really like the look of the shark flex hair styler!

MinimumRage · 29/10/2025 20:45

In real life - some lovely thin wool socks from Falke or Bridgdale. A Le Creuset mug. Or maybe a pair!

In my dreams - health and happiness for my daughters who I worry about so much.

thejadefish · 29/10/2025 20:48

A new job (I've just been made redundant) and a new buyer for our house so that we can move (buyer pulled out 2 weeks ago - no luck finding another as yet). Failing that, for the cooking of Christmas dinner to go smoothly/I don't burn anything, for the kids not to fight each other and maybe a lovely soft and warm dressing gown!

dudsville · 29/10/2025 20:48

I'm hard to buy for. I've got old wounds underpinning this, but I'm tired of it, want to move on from it, and from our tradition of giving each other lists which is just a defence built up from past stuff. I can buy what I want (my wants are in line with my means), and so what I really want for Christmas is to be less rigid about gift receiving, so I'm practising that this year - what I want is to be a good recipient.

So sorry to hear that but honestly you can get loads of good quality or free stuff from Facebook marketplace old stuff especially dark wood is cheap as not in fashion but the shapes are lovely and you can easily paint them! Also I bought a table for £10 from a shop next to the tip and sprayed it with a paint I had for free at home and stuck on new knobs! Absolutely sparks so much joy for a tenner every time I walk past it.
Also make a plan to make more money, ask for a pay rise, do a side hustle, sell stuff you never use, ask for money for Xmas not rubbish gifts. You can do it and best wishes for 2026 and your new life ;) xx

I keep thinking about it. Sick of backache, sore shoulders, endless rashes and the horrible ugly things sagging down to my waist.

I really want the passenger princess cup from primark that’s been haunting my Fbook feed - not in stock for click & collect or anywhere near me sadly 😔 since DD arrived I’ve been a passenger princess in DH car with DD in the back!

Going to primark on Saturday (Milton Keynes) if there's one there I'll get one for you x

2 or 3 skeins of beautiful hand dyed sock yarn from HHF.

Neulip · 29/10/2025 21:14

My premium skincare needs topping up so that and it will cost £££ aside from that some thick cosy socks, some calendars, some nice hot choc and loose leaf tea, Turkish delight, an ice cream bowl for my kitchen aid would be nice and books but the skincare is a must!

MoosesareREAL · 29/10/2025 21:18

Someone to declutter my house please, and perhaps for my deployed husband to come home for Christmas. The latter is not gonna happen though

Lillers · 29/10/2025 06:55

A mug with ‘mum’ on. I’ve been asking for one for every birthday, Christmas and Mother’s Day since my baby was born last year but DH doesn’t believe it’s enough and keeps getting me “better” things. Might have to wait until my 1-year-old is big enough to choose me a mug herself.

That’s shit. Don’t worry when your LO is old enough you will get lots of mum things you will be overloaded with them x

endocolonoscopy · 29/10/2025 21:26

@ChipshopPickledEgg
@Sortalike

thank you both for your very kind offers - I went on to check the stock status tonight and it’s back in stock (and swiftly ordered) for click & collect along with some Christmas socks for DD 🥰

It will be my to me love me Christmas gift 🎁

endocolonoscopy · 29/10/2025 21:27

@LillersI’ll happily buy you a mum mug 🥰

A while ago I saw an ad on Facebook for a Star Wars magic mug. All the characters’ lightsabers light up when you put a hot drink in it. I want that.

I wouldn't waste your money

I bought star wars bonkers dp that mug and after a few washes,(both in the dishwasher and hand washing)the 'coating' wore off and with it,the lightsabers

He was left with a slightly dirty looking white mug

It got smashed in the end but it was bloody disappointing how fast it wore off

sallyanne33 · 29/10/2025 21:51

A fancy coffee machine and some Baileys flavoured pods to go in it, and a set of rainbow coloured Le Creuset mugs to drink it out of and a new snuggly dressing gown to wear while doing so.

OrdinaryGirl · 29/10/2025 21:55

Lovely thread OP.
I would like someone to take my battered car to be cleaned inside and out and returned to me. Just that.

SheelaNaGigYouExhibitionist · 29/10/2025 21:59

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 29/10/2025 00:44

Record player. Only because it was my birthday recently and my older brother tracked down a very sentimental record for me from our childhood, but I don’t have anything to play it on.

This was me last year. I went to a gig and purchased a limited edition record from the merch stand, but had nothing to play it on. So DH got me a record player for Christmas.

StarDolphins · 29/10/2025 22:04

Fox cub & co honey, tobacco & tonka candle or Chloe EDP or a huge box of Lindt balls

ScaredOfFireworks · 29/10/2025 22:08

A Henry Cavill calendar for 2026. Nothing else. Just that. I found it on Amazon £15. I will be ordering it soon as my husband is not keen. My teenager rolls her eyes at me. I can have it on my work desk. Only problem is it's quite distracting!

MyOtherProfile · 29/10/2025 22:20

I'd love a declutter type person to swing by for a couple of hours and blitz our bedroom. That would honestly be the most amazing gift. If they could walk out with all the clothes, toiletries and books in there that we don't need I would be over the moon.

I would love to do that 😂 but I reckon I’m too far away.
