This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

Yes! It's one of my all-consuming hobbies. I've made loads of the Rolife kits and a fair few others from AliExpress etc. Any questions, please ask, I rarely get to talk about this with anyone!!

Ooh yes if you have a recommendation for a starter one. A bookshop or magic one. Its actually for me but if good then reckon my 12 year DND lovin son might enjoy one.

Anyone get FIRST70 to work on Haul? Every time I try the discount code it says "The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase."?

I think it’s only valid for certain accounts. The code didn’t work for me either.

I just clicked on an item and it was showing up where the vouchers usually show but then looked at a few other things and it wasn't there so im assuming its only on select items or certain sellers or something.

What items did it show on? Just so I can see if my account is eligible as I know some people can't get it either

It only works for certain accounts apparently. I’m looking at it as a positive as it’s just more tat that I can live without.

So Rolife are definitely the best quality. If you like the idea of properly making one - something that takes time and a fair amount of fiddliness - then you want one of the older Rolife kits. They've started making simpler ones that are much more 'click together' which I find far less satisfying but of course each to their own if that sounds more appealing to you! I suspect (though I haven't done this one) that the new bookstore themed booknook is like this because the chair looks like one solid plastic piece.

There's a fantastic kit called Sam's Study which is a model rather than a booknook but which is SO much fun to build. I'd do it again if my DH wouldn't probably divorce me for suggesting it .. ;) It has lots of folding fiddly little paper books but that's the sort of thing I like. I've also made the Sakura Rolife booknook (also great) and have the Magic Emporium in my "to be built" stash.

Generally I would say that Rolife are really good quality - CuteBee have a bit of a mixed reputation (can be great, can be really overpriced) and there is loads of good stuff on AliExpress - seems to be HUGE in China and Japan, Rolife is a Chinese company I think. I actually made a book-themed booknook from there which was great fun - sometimes if you buy direct from China you end up with only Chinese instructions which can be a challenge!

Amazon has decent prices for Rolife kits, which you can also sometimes get in garden centres that have hobby type stuff on sale.

And finally (sorry this ended up so long) there's a great Facebook group for us Rolife nutters enthusiasts I can direct you too - people often post a link to a kit and ask if someone else has build it, so you can get a decent honest review.

Do PM me if any other questions!

It's a shame cause there some stuff on there which would be good for stocking fillers!

M&S has a 50% off sale. They have reduced a lot of things but many sizes and colours have sold out already.

Guess I'm an unlucky one! No 70% off for me!

Thanks nothingtoseehereatall! that is so helpful. Will check out the Rolife ones. I am kack handed so this may end in tears but I love the look of them and my husband has promised to build me a whole wall of bookshelves (which I am not going to allow to get cluttered with kid crap).

CarrieMoonbeams · 04/09/2025 16:12

@mumofoneAloneandwell , as Yalz said, there's a sale on at M&S . That duvet you linked isn't in it (typical!) but, for example, there's an 18 tog all seasons 3-in-1 goose feather and down one there. The Superking size is now £131 from £219.

Will check now! Xx

Edit, thank you 🥰 - the idea of two separate duvets gives me the ick though 😭 - imo they will separate and stress me out

I'd rather a 15tog all year around which gets pushed to the bottom of the bed furing the summer months

MammaRoly · 04/09/2025 16:55

@PurpleSock try Footballsbest4u website, not sure how small they go but I have had a couple of kits from there which were good quality and washed well

Has anyone noticed topcashback is taking a long time or not tracking certain orders? I’ve done a few over the last few days and none have tracked as yet 😏

Yes, I’ve logged several claims in the last few weeks for quite high values eg 10% cashback on a £250 order. The visit shows (can select it in the dropdown when making the claim) but the purchase doesn’t track.

@nothingtoseehereatall can I ask your expert opinion? I was looking at getting a book nook for my niece (11), who is very crafty and obsessed with Harry Potter. Do you know anything about

Ah no sorry this one is new to me! There are lots of what you might call "Harry Potter coded" kits on the market eg featuring owls, broomsticks, magic etc, but not official HP merch, which this clearly is. That might be important to her, to have it "properly" HP, though. It looks like a good kit for a crafty 11 year old, I think - probably a bit "easy" for a hardcore crafter but good for her age, I would guess. And you do fairly often get Hobbycraft codes! Someone further up the thread shared one, I think, that would get you a £5 off at least.

Yes, me too. I've been using it for years and never had problems until the last couple of months but now have about half a dozen claims raised, including higher value ones on insurance purchases. The only things that have immediately tracked recently are gift card purchases.

I stopped using BAs Avios store because it became too unreliable and hoping TCB isn't going the same way.

ChristmasJumperz · 04/09/2025 19:09

Hi everyone, so pleased to see this thread up and running. Just wondering if anyone who recommended/purchased the Outsmarted game last year remembers the best offer for it please? It's currently saying 25% off direct on the website but that seems to make it the same price it is in Smyths. Does anyone know if they do a black friday discount? I remember Smyths and Argos did buy one get one free on games last year as well so maybe I should wait and see if that comes up again..

Also, showing my old lady brain, I can not for the life of me remember the name of a website that sells things students would like, homeware stuff, does anyone have the foggiest what it could be? I am wanting a noodle bowl with chopsticks and I feel this site had particularly large ones with handles? Maybe?

Thanks for any assistance!

MamaK19 · 04/09/2025 19:11

Rainbowcorn monster corn currently down to £13 Cat here & £15 Bat here currently £25 in Argos
