One more sleep until December!! Get your Christmas duvets, stollen and mulled wine and the ready as the festive season is well and truly here!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Stock informer is a handy site http://www.stockinformer.co.uk/default.aspx?fullsite=1

Camelcamelcamel is a great amazon price tracking tool http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com

The following links compare price products including postage
www.find-book.co.uk
www.find-cd.co.uk
www.find-dvd.co.uk
www.find-game.co.uk (as in PS4/xbox etc)

@bigchanges1 might not be the first either but some people are so much easier to buy for than others (looking at all the men 🤣).

Are there any crafters out there? My DD 19 has just got into crochet, we will have crochet everything for Xmas! I'm looking for a project/craft bag but they all look like a flashback to a different time, quite old fashioned. I'm looking for something like the Roka equivalent!!! Any ideas?

I have so many different projects bags for my crochet. But any bag works, rucksack, tote etc. If you think she'd like a Roka bag you could get that plus a small pencil case to keep her hooks and notions safe (needles for weaving, stitch markers) etc.

If you want something more specific, there's some nice bags on Etsy, Hobbii and wool warehouse also do a few different ones. If I win the lottery I'd love to have a "Muud" bag for my crochet 🧶

@unclebuck there's definitely a chat facility - it comes up as a speech bubble on the landing page.

Thelifeofawife · 04/12/2024 23:29

@IlovePond Haha, well a bargain is a bargain, whether you’re drinking or not 😅

Can anyone point me in the right direction, I need to buy two cinema tickets for this weekend , either Odeon or Cineworld . Now being a cheapskate , I would normally either use Meerkats two for one , but that’s not valid at the weekend , or my banking app which reduces them to half price , but for some reason that’s not working at the moment .

Does anyone know of any others discounts I can use at the weekend ? Thank you muchly .

Do you have any Tesco clubcard vouchers? You can double them up to buy cineworld vouchers.

Yalz · 04/12/2024 23:49

@ArthurChristmas22 it depends on how much you want to pay, but there are several knitting-specific designs from general designers with special qualities which might also appeal to crocheters.

I have the Tom Bihn Swift which I found very reasonably on eBay. I can’t see a UK stockist for this design. It has clear pockets inside to store notions and comes with a small separate bag to keep your yarn in.

I also have a couple of Field Supply bags. They are no longer in production, but you might find those or the Swift on eBay. Alternatively, if you sew, the pattern is now available.

Otherwise, as @FlatWhiteToGoPlease says, any bag could work, especially if she’s not carrying her crochet around away from home. When my friends who use rucksacks transport their crochet they put it inside a drawstring bag or open tote with the top folded down inside the rucksack. Avoid bags with zips or Velcro if she’s likely to fill the bag as the yarn can easily get caught in the zip/velcro.

Hey all,

Sorry to ask, but any Argos codes around? PP kindly gave me one but it said 'Expired' when I tried to use it earlier. Very annoying after such kindness.

I'm spending £100, so would be good to get a little off.

TIA.

@hugsandpugs or anyone else who has bought from the sockshop for the men's lounge wear....

Are the sizes about normal ?

Or do they come up small/tight?

My recipients don't really like feeling things tight on their bodies !

bizzey · 05/12/2024 00:45

And I had completely forgot that I had ordered the Deans hamper as well 🤦‍♀️..
Off to check emails !

Yalz · 05/12/2024 00:45

More pictures of the ready-made Field Supply Bag if anyone fancies making one.

I have to do secret Santa for someone who loves triathlons and IPA type beers.

Budget is £30. Any help greatly appreciated!

These IPA sets specifically for secret Santa gifts from BrewDog are lovely. And you get a glass too. And under budget!

Wigglewoowoo · 05/12/2024 06:38

Has anyone seen vogue magazine subscription for 12 months anywhere on offer please?
Thanks. I think I'm almost done.

IlovePond · 05/12/2024 06:50

@bizzey - it’s the Deans Xmas hampers that are to be shipped for arrival by 23/12. The BF ones should already have arrived/be about to arrive. I ordered 12 days ago and am still waiting, others have had theirs in the last few days. Hopefully yours will turn up soon.

@Thelifeofawife 😹😹😹don’t encourage me!

Re: JL wine calendar:

I think just under £3 per mini bottle is not bad for the novelty value of the wine calendar, but imo, it was overpriced at its original £100, so I’m not surprised it’s still available.

I don’t expect I will be able to replicate the JL hamper bargain I got in the January sales when I got a huge food and wine one for £25, but I live in hope! (The basket now holds blankets in the front room and it makes me happy every time I look at it!)

AnotherBreakfast · 05/12/2024 06:59

Looking for any advice - I need to buy a small gift for my team, to be delivered direct and was keen on a small indoor plant (ideal budget of £10). So far all the plant-y websites seem to have a minimum spend of £25 for delivery of delivery alone is £6.
Anyone know of anywhere that would fit the bill?

Hey, I’d say they they’re about normal tbh…. I ordered a size medium for teen DS who usually wears medium in clothes and he said they are comfy and not at all tight/restrictive.

The women’s are very much the same, I’m in between 10/12 and went for the 12 and they are a nice loose fit. X

Ah just seen you ordered them in the end, hope they’re happy with them 😊

I didn’t realise they are on TCB so will use that when I place my next order with them
