Thread 15 - the one where IT'S DECEMBER!

Reastie · 30/11/2024 11:54

One more sleep until December!! Get your Christmas duvets, stollen and mulled wine and the ready as the festive season is well and truly here!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Stock informer is a handy site http://www.stockinformer.co.uk/default.aspx?fullsite=1

Not quite the 1p card I found last week, but you can get any A5 card delivered for 50p using code MSE50PCARD, from Card Factory.

@nothingcomestonothing If you want to get the attention of a customer service team go to their Facebook / twitter/ Instagram etc and find the newest, most expensive looking to produce post you can find + comment on it with your bad customer service experience. It'll be seen by people higher up the chain and they'll want to take it offline/ shut you up

Funko pop dc advent calendar
is down to £14.99 from £45. Might be good for filling crackers?

Bagged this for next year, thanks!

@Puffalicious No Nike discounts but TopCashback currently has 10%

Also, I’m after a Ninja air fryer as well so if you do come across another good deal please share 🙂

Thanks! Nike bits are for end Dec/ early Jan birthdays so I'll hang fire. Gazelles are for me 👏, so again I can wait.

Best Ninja AirFryer I've found is still £149 from John Lewis or direct from Ninja. Still decent.

I'd plumped for Curry's at same price as it was 20% at TCB, but order cancelled 😱.

I may just go for it.

hugsandpugs · 03/12/2024 22:03

If anyone is looking for bamboo socks the sock shop have their advent calendar which includes 25 pairs of socks down from £59.99 to £29.99.

You can also get an extra 10% off with the code Socknews10.

There is also free delivery and a free gift of your choice with orders over £40

Stelmosfire1 · 03/12/2024 22:26

Outsmarted is down to £19.99 on Amazon. It was £24.99 earlier today when I ordered it directly from the outsmarted site for £22.99. Amazon have definitely outsmarted me 😂

InbetweenDreams · 03/12/2024 10:51

@Rednosedeer and @jocktamsonsbairn and others who have had sticky residue - I had something like this the other day, and my husband suggested isopropyl alcohol on cotton wool. I was a bit nervous as I didn’t want it to affect the ink on the actual cardboard but it brought the sticky stuff off and it’s good as new! I don’t know how successful it would be on a fluffy notebook/diary as I would imagine you might want to also clean the alcohol off in that case but my mum has used dry cleaning fluid in the past? If the item is glass or plastic, I always use WD40 and that has always worked. But on card it would be too wet. You could always return etc as they shouldn’t be doing it, but the thing I bought had since sold out and wouldn’t have been able to get a replacement so it was worth a bit of faff! Hope this helps!

Thank you! I'll try WD40 as we have some!

Do I need anything other than the 19.99 game - I can see various card packs? (I have a smart tv)

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 03/12/2024 22:53

@Itsigginingtolookalotlikexmas no, just a device to play it on. We just used our phones but tablets work too. We played it straight away with no fuss, my DH downloaded it on his phone then sent me a 'join' code and away we went. We didn't use the physical board that time, there's an online board showing your movements. Very straight forward.
Card packs, thanks to pp who shared them as I knew nothing so bought some just incase, they just send you an email with a code in that you add to the game via phone/tablet and it downloads it there for you. Not needed, just an extra for more variety. Hope this helps!

Edited to add, I'm sure I saw someone say you can play it on your smart TV too!

Can I be a pest & ask for details of the packs? I've just ordered today.

I ordered an electric toothbrush x 2 for hard to buy for adult sons. My youngest has just come in proudly waving the identical one he bought in the BF sale🙈 He did exactly the same thing last Xmas when I was going to get him a cuddle cushion, then one landed on the doorstep!

On the plus side, I had inadvertently guessed correctly about something he wanted, but now I have to find something else.

Any suggestions for small, (lack of space), adult stocking fillers for tech and gadget obsessed young-ish adult, (no alcohol or food or toiletries or board games).

I got the earbud cleaners that were recommended earlier - great idea! Any more like it?

Thanks so much.

I buy this age group a cinema box with vouchers for tickets & snacks/drinks. It ticks the box for a gift more than a token gift & doesn't break the bank but still impresses. The main plus point is that there isn't any tat involved as it's an experience gift.

@Puffalicious
Add ons Outsmarted
These were a pound over Black Friday but still fairly cheap. I don't know the process of setting them up, basically I'd bought and got the emails with the code instantly, then passed my phone to my DH who then put them on to the game via his phone. I can't see a 'how to add add-ons' in the FAQ so must be straight forward, there was no stressing from DH anyway.

I've attached two photos of what it says when you download the game, I can't go any further as the code is in the box and I'm in bed 😁

Kids socks are £1.99 or 5 for £5 but the £1 seems to apply to any number of kids socks 5 or over (if that makes sense)

No worries! Yes I know what you mean - so every additional pair is a £1 each after you’ve added the initial 5?

DD age 11 has just landed on me that she's joined a secret santa with her friends. Now on the hunt for a nice gift for a 10/11 year old girl who I don't know very well! Suggestions welcome. Budget no more than £20 preferably less.

Edited

My dd is 12, we've just done a claires order for her friends presents. She's chosen a palm pal, hello kitty blind box soft toy, earrings, mood heart necklace, fidget toy all for different friends based on friends interests!

Other gifts that would be a winner with dd and her friends, makeup/lip balms. The paw paw wicked on looks good, also loves carmex and the various flavours. Also affirmation pens, I ordered from shein but I'm sure you could get them somewhere else. Fluffy socks. Face masks. Stickers (it's all about cute stickers or ones related to interests like taylor swift, Olivia Rodrigo, heartstopper). Jewellery- mine wears crystal bracelets and a heart locket from claires and one with her initial on it. Keyrings and pin badges for blazer and school bag.

TimPat · 04/12/2024 07:15

Thank you for all the fab suggestions for DD's friend!

My 6 year old has announced that the only thing she wants for Christmas is a typewriter! Anyone seen a toy one or cheap one anywhere without me having to go on eBay/Marketplace?

How funny! My 7 year old asked for the same! What on Earth. No advice here - I did go on eBay and picked up a lovely retro one for £30.
