Thread 15 - the one where IT'S DECEMBER!

1000 replies

Reastie · 30/11/2024 11:54

One more sleep until December!! Get your Christmas duvets, stollen and mulled wine and the ready as the festive season is well and truly here!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Stock informer is a handy site http://www.stockinformer.co.uk/default.aspx?fullsite=1

Camelcamelcamel is a great amazon price tracking tool http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com

The following links compare price products including postage
www.find-book.co.uk
www.find-cd.co.uk
www.find-dvd.co.uk
www.find-game.co.uk (as in PS4/xbox etc)

Argh I am going to have to buy outsmarted now aren't I... And it's back to to £30 on Amazon now. It was 20 last time I looked. If I hang tight and will it drop.again do we think

I'm after it too now I've come onto the threads really late!

The full package is £34.99 direct, but I'm not sure i need this full package. What's the difference? Sorry for being rubbish!

Puffalicious · 03/12/2024 10:24

Also looking to buy the large Ninja Air-fryer. Best I can see is £139 at Argos. Great already, but was there a way to get £10 off someone said? Or if anyone has a code I'd be very, very grateful.

I'm just joining the threads, so haven't seen the previous tips. Apologies.

Puffalicious · 03/12/2024 10:27

Outsmarted on Amazon at £24.99. Is that better than the full package at a tenner more direct?

BoilingHotand50something · 03/12/2024 10:37

Re Outsmarted. When I just clicked through from Facebook, it’s showing as £22.99 with free next day delivery. I don’t know what the bundles are but I think the standard is all you need. It’s all I have and then we added a couple of question packs over the course of the year when they are reduced.

So much appreciated.

@WaitWhatOh I bought one for my BIL last year. It had a faulty lock that just came open if you pulled it, and the code you need to unlock it comes on a little sticker stuck on to the packaging, so I definitely wouldn’t send straight to the recipient. You could check the lock and replace with one programmed to the correct code if necessary. It was too late for me because I’d already given it when he “tested” the lock as a joke and it just came open! Anyway, he still had loads of fun with it and was a perfect gift for him. You can also regift them, if you make notes on a notebook instead of straight onto the clues sheet or whatever it is, so there’s another angle.

imnottoofussed · 03/12/2024 10:49

@VeruccaSalty I think it may be cheaper to buy directly on the outsmarted website

imnottoofussed · 03/12/2024 10:50

Sorry just noticed everyone else replied in a similar vein

InbetweenDreams · 03/12/2024 10:51

@Rednosedeer and @jocktamsonsbairn and others who have had sticky residue - I had something like this the other day, and my husband suggested isopropyl alcohol on cotton wool. I was a bit nervous as I didn’t want it to affect the ink on the actual cardboard but it brought the sticky stuff off and it’s good as new! I don’t know how successful it would be on a fluffy notebook/diary as I would imagine you might want to also clean the alcohol off in that case but my mum has used dry cleaning fluid in the past? If the item is glass or plastic, I always use WD40 and that has always worked. But on card it would be too wet. You could always return etc as they shouldn’t be doing it, but the thing I bought had since sold out and wouldn’t have been able to get a replacement so it was worth a bit of faff! Hope this helps!

Question for my fellow Elf app sheep (if you know you know Grin) ...

Seems to be a Suprise Reward of £4 which I've tried using on a couple of items (basket under £10) but it's not applying. O can see it says free shipping for all orders at the moment so wonder if this is why?

I was hoping to use it while shipping is free but not spend more than a tenner!

I had this and queried it but it's £4 off a £25 spend so I didn't bother

IDareSay · 03/12/2024 11:00

Just back from my local Morrissons. All advent calendars half price and lots of stock.

I guess it all depends how big you wanna go on there!

Fancyateapottea · 03/12/2024 11:04

Meta horizon have lots of VR games with 40% off.
I’ve brought a few so that it’s pre-loaded with some games for Christmas Day.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 03/12/2024 11:04

Ahh makes sense Girl, thanks

I shan't bother either then. I may just order a lip balm wit the free delivery . Because lord knows what I need are more bloody lip balms > eyes VB ridiculously priced one under the tree. But I did get a free eye pencil which basically makes it a bargain <

That's funny, as I dashed in after the school-run to get some (we've been away & I totally forgot). Only Kinder & Lindt left in mine, but half price at least.

Whilst there I picked up Tech Decs for £3 & these Block Mania for £2.50 for older DC stocking.

Any Argos codes please?

I ordered the Ninja Air fryer from Currys & they cancelled it early this morning. Strange.

Puffalicious · 03/12/2024 11:22

Scratch that, Airfryer OOS everywhere at Argos. Obviously everyone went crazy ordering yesterday, & that's why my Currys order has been cancelled. 😠

Scout2016 · 03/12/2024 11:28

@gaggiagirl thank you I used your argos code
