Thread 15 - the one where IT'S DECEMBER!

1000 replies

Reastie · 30/11/2024 11:54

One more sleep until December!! Get your Christmas duvets, stollen and mulled wine and the ready as the festive season is well and truly here!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Stock informer is a handy site http://www.stockinformer.co.uk/default.aspx?fullsite=1

Can I ask what crocs are like for size? My DS has wide feet so can sometimes be a bit of a struggle.

If you put on thick socks & your crocs then use a hairdryer to warm up all the places they feel tight. Keep them on with the socks till they are cold again - they'll then fit perfectly.

Please help - ideas for a 9yo boy!

I've just realised that we don't have a 'big' present for our 9yo. He's really hard to buy for as he has a lot of toys/books etc passed down to him - and doesn't have the time to play with the ones he has as it is.

When I ask what he'd like he gets overwhelmed so I'm trying to get ideas that I can run past him.

Any ideas please?

@comewhinewith HOTWIRES was very popular with my boys. I see I bought it in 2012 so ds3 would have been 6.5. He was a little young for it but got great enjoyment from it and his brothers (then 15 and 17) loved it too.

DD is 25 and has requested "some perfume" but doesn't know what she wants.
What's popular among ladies her age these days? Not too expensive, but nothing too cheap. She won't want anything with a celebrity name on it, whatever it smells like...🙄

My Deans hamper arrived by Royal Mail. Hope this is helpful.

We've got a Switch this year (not really a console family, but a friend was selling one second hand!) DC are 7 and 6 - any recommendations for family games we can play on it? We've got Mario, a HP game, etc already installed but would prefer it to be a communal thing, at least initially. They like board and card games, quizzes, learning chess, etc. I'd like some games we can play as a family that won't cause WW3 to break out. I've not really used a console since my wee brother's SNES! Thanks in advance!

Mine used to like 1-2 switch at that age and Mario Party

Not the most exciting but looking for heavy weight mens long sleeved T-shirts, suitable for someone tall.

I tried Next and H&M, and thought about ASOS, but the choice is a bit overwhelming.

@colderandeatsmincepiesalot TK Maxx often have some lovely reduced cashmere sweaters. Tahari are really lovely, and there are several other brands.

Threeboystwocatsandadog · 02/12/2024 20:06

@JamJarBinx @IlovePond my Deans hamper that I ordered on the 20th arrived a couple of days ago and I got a Royal Mail dispatch notice either on the day or the day before. The one I ordered last Monday I haven’t heard anything about. I think they may have had more custom than they expected.

I just ordered my daughter some crocs, they have a sale on, if you have a blue light card the discount code stacks. The crocs I chose were originally £50 I got them for £36.

comewhinewith · 02/12/2024 20:21

Thanks all - annoyingly he has most of these 🙄. Hot wires looks promising though, I'm going to check that out.

Thanks again

The Happy puzzle send me a code for £5 off when spending £30 it looks like its generic SAVE5 - however further down the email it says £40….

I keep saying it but Pandora and Look Fantastic have cost me £45. They reduced the items I wanted. I bought them now they are reduced more 😲😲

ApiratesaysYarrr · 02/12/2024 20:50

Shokz have 20-30% off their bone conduction earphones for 24 hours. They look flimsy but are surprisingly robust, and really excellent for runners who still want to be able to hear noises around them (v nice for lone female runners who want to listen to music but also want to feel safe)

Email them and ask. It’s not great customer experience really is it.
ultimately it’s better to refund the difference than you waste everyone’s time, and environmentally better and reorder and return it
