Thread 15 - the one where IT'S DECEMBER!

Reastie · 30/11/2024 11:54

One more sleep until December!! Get your Christmas duvets, stollen and mulled wine and the ready as the festive season is well and truly here!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Stock informer is a handy site http://www.stockinformer.co.uk/default.aspx?fullsite=1

Camelcamelcamel is a great amazon price tracking tool http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com

The following links compare price products including postage
www.find-book.co.uk
www.find-cd.co.uk
www.find-dvd.co.uk
www.find-game.co.uk (as in PS4/xbox etc)

LEGO BUYERS!!

For anyone (like me) who has being waiting patiently for decent cashback for Lego Store purchases, today is the day! TopCashBack (TCB) are offering 20% cashback on most things at the Lego Store, including Lego Exclusives as far as I can see (which have stayed at 3-6% for much of the rest of the month). The only things that seem to be excluded are Bricklink Designer products and Gift Cards.

If you don't have a TCB account, you can sign up using a referral via the referrals thread to get £10 into your TCB account. My referral link is part way down on p10 of the thread and I'd be so grateful if you'd use mine 😊

There's also 20% cashback on Debenhams, Dunelm, Very and Superdrug on TCB today.

Amazon reminder - tick the gift box if it's for someone else even if they won't see it arrive.

I am doing my bit for the environment and didn't tick it's a gift as the recipients are not here to see the order and the items have stickers on them which won't peel off. Some kids toys supposed to be from Santa...

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 02/12/2024 11:41

@Rednosedeer it isn't so much marking it as a gift (this just means the price doesn't show on the invoice) it is making sure on the checkout page you scroll down far enough to see if there is a box that says it ships in manufacturers packaging and changing that to ship in Amazon packaging.

Try a hairdryer to get your labels off

Wise ones, I’m twitching at Outsmarted, my kids are 10,12,14. should I buy the regular one or the kids v adults?

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 02/12/2024 11:48

I have a £5 off code for Pandora, it may be specific to my account but worth someone else trying. Pls PM me if you'd like to try using it. It expires tonight

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 02/12/2024 11:53

Thanks to who mentioned the Etsy code. I'd put an order in yesterday amounting to £40. I messaged the seller asking if I can cancel and reorder to benefit from the £5 off £25 and they did. Even better, the items I bought yesterday are on sale today! So you've saved me a tenner from that order, thank you!

My brother wants to buy his girlfriend a bracelet or necklace for Christmas (I suggested earrings but he doesn’t want anything in a ring sized box!!)
He wants it to be from somewhere recognisable as a good brand - basically Tiffany’s at a lower level!
My teens are into Pandora still as well as Vivienne Westwood but that’s not really the right place for a 30 year old
Can anyone suggest somewhere? I’ve used Abbot Lyon before but don’t know if thats a recognised brand

How about Monica Vinader?

I've bought Cutter & Squidge afternoon tea deliveries for several happy recipients in the past and spotted that they have 50% off gift cards for Black Fri/Cyber Monday. Effectively means anything on the site, including the afternoon tea deliveries, is half price :)

Thanks - I didn’t spot this and it’s a great deal. I will buy one too.

just a heads up to anyone buying from Cutter & Squidge that you get an extra £10 off your first order (£30 and over) with a referral code.

i don’t know if this would stack with the 50% off vouchers but could be a great bargain if it works - worth a try anyway.

I’ve added my referral code to the last page of the referral board in case anyone would like to give it a go!

Have you tried hair drying the sticker before peeling? Have had luck with this in the past as it melts the glue

£5 extra cashback on Quidco accounts . I used mine to buy a Sainsbury’s gift card from Argos. Easily added to your apple wallet.

You get the main board - it’s the same for everyone
Then, when you set up the game in the app, you select the level of questions for each player - choices are child, teen or adult.
You can select the categories you want - we bought the mega pack and then ordered a couple of add ons for 99p each
The packages refer to the categories included in the price, the actual game is the same for everyone

We've got a Switch this year (not really a console family, but a friend was selling one second hand!) DC are 7 and 6 - any recommendations for family games we can play on it? We've got Mario, a HP game, etc already installed but would prefer it to be a communal thing, at least initially. They like board and card games, quizzes, learning chess, etc. I'd like some games we can play as a family that won't cause WW3 to break out. I've not really used a console since my wee brother's SNES! Thanks in advance!

I'm in my 30s and still like Pandora, but Missoma is also lovely and they have up to 40% off today which is a really good offer for them!
I have some stuff from Abbot Lyon and don't think the quality is great tbh.

I was passing John Lewis this morn so popped in and was able to get my free chocs. Today's 'reward' in the app was a competition entry to win a coffee machine.

O2 priority has a snow globe prize winner thing starting today. You shake the snow globe once a day to see if you win anything. Nothing for me today sadly!

We like the sport game, has golf/volleyball/ tennis and more and my 4 year old loves playing the golf against us.

@LittleMousewithcloggson I think Missoma is a safer bet at that age than Pandora which can be a bit marmite. Mejuri is also good.

I would also vouch for most stuff stocked by Liberty as going down well with that age and will probably be nicely packaged -

A few I can think of would be:
Missoma
Ana Luisa
Mejuri
Astrid & Miyu
Edge of Amber
Monica Vinader

Personally I have loved stuff from Ana Luisa and Monica Vinader. I know lots of people like Missoma too.

I did not like Astrid & Miyu - I ordered 4 pairs of earrings with them in the past, and on 2 of them, the fastening were very loose, one earring fell out whilst I was wearing it. I might have been unlucky but I'm not going to try them again.

A behind the scenes bit of info, a lot of the companies are really struggling at the moment. They've released the black Friday offers and thought it would bring in the sales needed but people are still not spending so they've desperately reduced things further and pretended it's for Cyber Monday.

For example, Very are absolutely on their arse at the moment. You can see the desperation if you take a step back and watch them offer discount after discount (Claire's anyone?). I can see us losing a lot of stores very soon.

My partner is a toy creator and his company aren't giving a Christmas bonus this year. 😔

I do get it’s hard at the moment. People are watching the money more, for me though I’m finding it difficult to know when to spend my money to buy the item.

Crew is another one I see disappearing. Every week there’s a 20% off or 30%.
