One more sleep until December!! Get your Christmas duvets, stollen and mulled wine and the ready as the festive season is well and truly here!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Stock informer is a handy site http://www.stockinformer.co.uk/default.aspx?fullsite=1

Camelcamelcamel is a great amazon price tracking tool http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com

The following links compare price products including postage
www.find-book.co.uk
www.find-cd.co.uk
www.find-dvd.co.uk
www.find-game.co.uk (as in PS4/xbox etc)

Nephew would like kano pc windows 10 computer kit, but way out of my budget. Does anyone know another ‘build your own computer kit’ similar that’s more reasonable priced?

Hi, can anyone who has the Outsmarted game confirm if it needs to be a smart tv to play it on? Thanks

We haven’t connected ours to the tv at all
played on individual phones/ipads

Placed an order on Etsy half an hour ago. Now they've pinged me on the app saying CYBER42 gets £5 off a £25 spend. I can't be doing with this nonsense I really can't, I just want Friday's and Monday's to go back to normal! I know I'm supposed to appreciate a discount but I wanted to buy quick because the shop had 10% off and now it turns out I moved too soon!! Doesn't look easy to cancel to reorder so we've decided to suck it up.

I feel the same. It makes you second guess every purchase and worry. Then when it happens you feel ripped off

LittleMousewithcloggson · 02/12/2024 10:13

My brother wants to buy his girlfriend a bracelet or necklace for Christmas (I suggested earrings but he doesn’t want anything in a ring sized box!!)
He wants it to be from somewhere recognisable as a good brand - basically Tiffany’s at a lower level!
My teens are into Pandora still as well as Vivienne Westwood but that’s not really the right place for a 30 year old
Can anyone suggest somewhere? I’ve used Abbot Lyon before but don’t know if thats a recognised brand

Kracken · 02/12/2024 10:13

Hi, really grateful for all the inspiration from this thread! I'm on my last few bits to get and I wondered if anyone had recommendations for where to get my daughter some ski stuff - she needs goggles, mittens (would prefer mittens rather than gloves), base layers and socks. She's 13, size 4/xxs in women's sizes and 5'2". Hoping not to spend a fortune as it's her first try at skiing so she may not take to it, but want to get decent stuff and have no idea which websites/brands are good. Thanks so much!

Pandora is still good at that age I think - certainly within our family. And if he buys online today there are discounts to be had. Also can topcashback or similar.

All below on TopCashback this morning

Global bonus £5 bonus cashback on a £15 spend.

eBay 20% off plus enhanced cashback

and double cashback day (although not clickable for me for some reason)

As others have realised, my apologies these are all on Quidco not TCB.

Hi, having ignore the fake Oodie chat for years, I suddenly need to buy one. It's for a child, but apparently they want it to be super over-sized so have asked for an adult sized one, and reasonably thick. Has anyone spotted any in the sales, or have recommendations for where to find a bargainous but reasonable quality one? Max budget is £20. Thank you!

I don’t know what age you need but the girls blanket hoodies from New Look are good quality and a decent size. They are currently on offer at less than £13!

If she uses instagram then she'll definitely know Abbots Lyon! I really rate them too, have loads of gorgeous pieces.

Morning.
Any recommendations on the best ancestry kits? There seem to be a few good deals. Thanks.

Me and all of my family have used Ancestry kits and it's been brilliant for years. Really rate them.

We've got 90 year old Grandma one for Christmas too, she's excited!

I feel like it's s just become one long, manic game of guessing and gaslighting and I'm sick of it. Things definitely need to go back to normal. My email box is literally giving me a headache and I am also sick of companies shouting at me, spamming me 2+ more times a day and patronising me with their over familiar "Hey dude, did you forget something?"

My only useful addition today is that Staysure have 20% off travel insurance until 5th December. Not particularly Christmassy, but I'm off to renew mine now and can highly recommend them (especially if you have pre existing conditions)

handmademitlove · 02/12/2024 10:41

I've bought Cutter & Squidge afternoon tea deliveries for several happy recipients in the past and spotted that they have 50% off gift cards for Black Fri/Cyber Monday. Effectively means anything on the site, including the afternoon tea deliveries, is half price :)

Does anyone know if the Jellycats from Bigwicks come in individual bags? I can't see an option on their site to request this, as their is on the official Jellycat site, and it's important!

My Bigwicks order has been dispatched I can let you know when it arrives.

Pinkladymel · 02/12/2024 11:14

A behind the scenes bit of info, a lot of the companies are really struggling at the moment. They've released the black Friday offers and thought it would bring in the sales needed but people are still not spending so they've desperately reduced things further and pretended it's for Cyber Monday.

For example, Very are absolutely on their arse at the moment. You can see the desperation if you take a step back and watch them offer discount after discount (Claire's anyone?). I can see us losing a lot of stores very soon.

My partner is a toy creator and his company aren't giving a Christmas bonus this year. 😔
