Thread 13 - the one where I'm dashing for the school run!

1000 replies

Reastie · 22/11/2024 07:25

Apologies for the rubbish title - I'm trying to get the kids ready and don't want my daughter to miss the bus!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Good morning, don't suppose anyone has seen a decent discount code for Argos? DH is spending £300+ on a phone and any saving would be great 👍🏼 thanks

If not, Argos has cash back through Rakuten - I signed up through a referral to get £25 then referred my husband so we each got £25. Cash back earned by the end of the month is paid on 15th December.

leesmum · 26/11/2024 07:13

Thanks @Trainstrike I'll let him know

@mince3141 I second John Lewis. We looked and compared there and Currys and both have some great offers. We've got one from JL for half the original price.

Morning @reastie a heads up again/again.
Does anyone else feel disgruntled when they check back and there's 8 pages to skim through, mostly unrelated 😬
And yes, I am very, very thankful for all the tips, so I use the thanks button to show that

Answering your question - no. I like the chat. Without it the thread would just be a list of links, and we might as well all just follow “hot U.K. deals”.

Harvester are offering £5 off gift cards when you spend £25

Are there any gamers on here who know anything about gaming monitors please? I’ve just had the idea to get one for DS12 but we don’t know the first thing about what we’re looking for. He uses a Nintendo Switch (bought in panic at the start of lockdown!). At the moment my plan is to buy the most expensive RRP that is reduced to under £100, but if anyone has spotted a great deal, I’d really appreciate some advice!

Also, I was looking at the Argos deals and remembered that’s lots of people have Argos deals. How do you get those please? I just downloaded the app, but there are no vouchers on there that I can see.

HoffiCoffii · 25/11/2024 23:01

Take a look at John Lewis. I bought a Lenovo 16gb ram slim 3 i5 laptop with 1 year of Microsoft for £379 in black Friday deal. The laptop alone is usually £599, saved just under £300 with the bundle. John lewis is good for tech as you get a 2 year warranty included rather than 1 year elsewhere.

I'd check Lenovo direct first - they run BF even with really good discounts and cashback is usually available too

They were still charging the discounted price of £599 for this laptop, it's rrp is £849. So £379 for laptop and 1 year of Microsoft 365 I was happy with. Plus 2 year warranty too.

We have a switch and just plug it into the tv - but it depends on how/where you're going to use it I guess.

Apologies, I should have been clearer.
I enjoy the chat or advice. I don't like reading thanks over and over, or anyone posting a referral when someone put theirs on the thread that's been made just for that reason.
Some deals are very short-lived, I look forward to reading this at the end of the day and it's a lot to sift though.
I meant no offence

Apple AirPod Pro 2 down U.K. £179 on Amazon.

I tried to do the trick of ordering for delivery for next week, in case they get reduced further, but it wouldn’t let me pick dates.

Costco is still cheaper if you have a card (I don’t).

Thank you! Managed to order them for delivery in a week.

Rocket Gardens are offering 20% off their Veg Patch vouchers today only with code ELF24 - vouchers

@HeToldMeMyFishWouldDie Vodafone have 15% off at the Fragrance Shop with their current rewards - happy to PM you a code if it helps!

Oh, I was given a rocket garden voucher years ago - such a fab gift for novice/wanna-be veg growers. I loved it 😍

They send a box of little plug plants in spring so you don't have to deal with the difficult bit of germinating seeds and raising healthy seedlings. The seedlins just arrive ready to plant out in the garden/allotment.

Shame I've missed the offer ...

On the subject of practical presents - I'm looking for rechargable batteries and a charger, ideally one that does AA and AAA.

A quick look on amazon shows loads, but I have no idea if they're any good. Does anyone have recommendations? Doesn't have to be the cheapest one, but a discount would be great!

Is it a shit present? I hate buying tat, and I love receiving practical gifts.

Thank you to everyone for earlier suggestions on my friend and her 7yo - I've built quite a list.

IKEA are good for rechargeable batteries.

PurpleSkittler · 26/11/2024 17:26

@fishfingersandchipsagain I enjoy the chat too and find out all sorts of useful info from it AND I also find the threads move so fast it feels quite overwhelming trying to catch up if more than a day has passed since last visiting MN, @4thtimesthecharm As you can see I'm already a thread behind!

Since all the action is happening on the new thread, I don't mind 'wasting' a post here. I agree that there seems to be so many non-bargain posts (including people basically asking others to go hunt for bargains on their behalf) that I find myself sifting through a lot of 'extra'. A bit of chat is nice, but I wonder what percentage of people are actually adding to the thread, not just taking from it. #TeamTinyChat

Some lovely personalised stuff on My 1st Years reduced for Black Friday and seems they keep adding stock - this reindeer dressing gown would be perfect for a baby’s first Christmas here

Don't forget BLC discount of 20% works on sale items (despite saying it does not!) - makes the dressing gown £11.52 when personalised

Ooh, what is the BLC discount please? A stacked discount might just push me into ordering!

Thanks @Broken12 @PMAmostofthetime @Famousthehero for the suggestions.

A couple of those I've received as presents for my own DD from the family I'll be buying for so will have to swerve those, but will be considering the other ones.
