Thread 13 - the one where I'm dashing for the school run!

1000 replies

Reastie · 22/11/2024 07:25

Apologies for the rubbish title - I'm trying to get the kids ready and don't want my daughter to miss the bus!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

The Glossybox Black Friday Beauty Edits are out, they have 6 at £7.50 and 2 at £22.50.
I think someone earlier was thinking for something beauty related around the £10 mark.

Strange request but if you were filling in a calendar for Santa what might some December jobs be. Things like book reindeers hooves to be trimmed but ideally a bit funny.

I'm not very good at funny but you could add funny to:
Shining Rudolph's nose
elf and safety check of the sleigh
Checking the health of the elf on the shelf
Jingling his bells
Getting an eye for the best mince pie

lemonsmum · 25/11/2024 21:30

@thaegumathteth thanks I tried to workout from previous post so went for xxs/xs she wears age 13-14

I said in my head she was done now as had repeatedly said no to the hoodie but now I'm on PLouise. Just have to think how much I'm saving and they are things she's been asking for all year.

MilkyBadBoy · 25/11/2024 21:30

@Fueledwithfairydustandgin
Book Santa’s cut, colour and blow dry
Go candy cane foraging
Set the leaf blower loose on the trees
Release the robins!!
Fetch Mariah and check that dress still fits her
Remind the family opposite ‘that house with all the lights’ to dust off their blackout blinds
Rediscover Baileys
Wrap up some Dean’s shortbread as a ‘spare presents’ in case Shiela and Bob get us something (thought we were just doing cards this year)
Lose track of what day of the week it is
Get on first name terms with the Amazon delivery guy
Receive a Christmas card from ‘Pauline and the kids’. You don’t know anyone called Pauline.
Check with your mum how your cousin spells her daughter’s name. Double ‘e’… ‘eigh’… ‘ah’?

Not so funny but trimming his beard, polishing his boots?
Slimming world class?
Christmas shopping for Mrs Claus

Fragrances or fragrance gift sets for 16 year olds recommendations please 🙏

At the moment the Soo de janerio spray mists are all the craze you can get them in a gift set or alone.

Look Fantastic and Boots currently have deals on them.

If you want actual perfume

Jimmy Choo flash
Miss Dior
And moschino toy 2 seem to be popular this year.

I was going to order another Deans hamper … and then I walked into Sainsbury’s. I do think the hamper is really good value, but think I would get a better selection just from the supermarket.

I agree. For anyone who has missed the Dean's shortbread hamper offers, Sainsbury’s have some great deals, Waitrose also have some good offers on (especially if you're a My Waitrose card holder) If you were going to split them, then it's going to look like it came from a supermarket anyway. I can highly recommend the Waitrose Cornish Quartz cheese shortbread.

unclebuck · 25/11/2024 21:41

@qate I am wearing the cotton socks now and they are great - warm and cosy but not claustrophobic 😂

evtheria · 25/11/2024 21:41

@Fueledwithfairydustandgin

Mend any holes in the Christmas sacks
Pick Elf of the Year
Back up 'Nice List' to the cloud
Confirm flight path with NORAD
Do 1000 squats, lifts, and shimmies
Wrap Mrs Claus's gifts
Trim & oil the beard
Make Christmas Eve SleighTrip playlist (confer with reindeer)

I love 'RELEASE THE ROBINS'. Equal potential for terror and delight.

@OatFlatWhiteForMePlease where did you see the carharrt ones please, on their own website ? Thank you 🙏

Thelifeofawife · 25/11/2024 21:51

@Flubadubba Thanks for sharing the link for the new hamper release. Annoyingly I bought one a couple of days ago and added a tin of Yule log chocolate cookies, which are now in the new release. Of course I’ll be buying this version as well 😅

any deals on giftcards, please?

On the subject of practical presents - I'm looking for rechargable batteries and a charger, ideally one that does AA and AAA.

A quick look on amazon shows loads, but I have no idea if they're any good. Does anyone have recommendations? Doesn't have to be the cheapest one, but a discount would be great!

Is it a shit present? I hate buying tat, and I love receiving practical gifts.

Thank you to everyone for earlier suggestions on my friend and her 7yo - I've built quite a list.

I have a power owl one and I am very happy with it

I’ve ordered a few times with no problems whatsoever. I think the tracking should update once Royal Mail or whatever carrier it is scans it onto their system from memory.

Does anyone know if White Fox deliveries
come with it emblazoned on the postal packaging? I’ve relented and ordered a jumper for dd, who hasn’t asked for one specifically but I know her friends have them and she has asked for oversized jumpers so will be delighted at a branded one. After the BarryM stuff I ordered arrived today in a BarryM box that luckily she didn’t see I’m wary of a White Fox mishap as well!

White Fox stuff comes in a bright pink bag with the logo on the outside - no concealing it!

TheCrow · 25/11/2024 22:21

I was going to get DD a White Fox hoodie despite her not asking for it as it was her style and I thought I'd treat her to a trendy brand but a few days ago she told me she's more into alternative fashion so I was glad I hadn't ordered it and saved quite a bit of money.

I have also just went and spent £30 on P.Louise instead 😂 even on sale its more expensive than I would normally get but since I didn't buy the hoodie it's technically free, right?!

polkadotchristmas · 25/11/2024 22:26

@hugsandpugs wa this for yesterday only? It's not working for me and I really wanted to get my son his hideous trainers cheaper ! 🫤

Looks like it’s still on - which ones are they? Perhaps they are excluded from the offer 😬

Is the deans 10% code generic as I've signed up yesterday and still not got a code? Thanks!
