Thread 13 - the one where I'm dashing for the school run!

1000 replies

Reastie · 22/11/2024 07:25

Apologies for the rubbish title - I'm trying to get the kids ready and don't want my daughter to miss the bus!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

dh has one for work. Hes a tradesman and it works with the batteries his tools use. it’s really heavy (probably because of the battery!) so only gets used for really cold weather.

CandyRaining · 23/11/2024 13:20

Can anyone help me with the Argos £10 off a £60 spend please? I signed up and one came through. But when I tried to use it it says the items in my basket aren’t eligible. It’s a switch game, case, controller and advent calendar, comes to £80. I can’t see any exemptions on the email I had so I’m wondering what I’m doing wrong. Or maybe there are exemptions and I’ve messed them 🤔

TryingToHelpBut · 23/11/2024 13:27

Ok, fungi stuff cones up a lot if you search 'fairy core' on sites especially shein/temu type.
Secondly Sephora has free delivery over £20 at the moment which with my DD was easy to do plus TopCashback/airtime rewards. Bluelight had a code but it didn't work on my products (hate it when they restrict brands)
Lastly DNiece has just bought a place and would like 'cool serving dishes' wtf? I'm not cool. I've seen some that are £££ but my budget is more like £60 for 2
Any ideas?

Ahh...I didn't think about the weight of the battery. That's something to consider. Thanks for pointing that out.

The ones that use normal usb power banks would probably be better on weight

My son has asked for a new PS5 controller, when I looked other day £59.99.
John Lewis currently have them for £39,99 in a variety of colours

Does anyone know if black friday weekend typically has big sales on Look Fantastic? I've got a few bits in atm but only 25% off is working on them. Can't decide if i should hold out or not.

I’m hoping so!
I’ve got things in my basket I purchased last year and they’re nowhere near the prices I paid last year. I’m sure there were some 40 and 30% flash codes but not until actual Black Friday. I have a referral link of £10 when you spend £25 if that’s useful for anything. Think it’s on the old thread - need to add to the new one.

Teen DS has this Regatta heated jacket. It’s been great and he wore it all through last winter. He just uses the same battery pack as his phone, and it’s not any heavier than a normal jacket.

DH has been very jealous of it, so I bought him this heated gilet from the same range

@Raindancer411, I think it was you with the M&S discount issue like me. I messaged M&S on Twitter and they refunded me the 10% that wasn't discounting.

NWnature · 23/11/2024 13:58

@TryingToHelpBut anthropologie for the dishes - or possibly tkmaxx / homesense

whatk8ydid · 23/11/2024 13:59

@TryingToHelpBut I would highly recommend Anthropologie for "cool serving dishes" - they come absolutely beautifully packaged too. Something like this or a pitcher with a matching platter would be well received I'm sure. They're doing 25% off for Black Friday with the code SNOW - you'll just need to sign up to be a member for it to work (it's free).

NWnature · 23/11/2024 14:10

@TryingToHelpBut also Sophie Conran are timeless - the Christmas ones are in the Black Friday sale at the mo

HerInfiniteVariety · 23/11/2024 14:26

@TryingToHelpBut depends on her style, but randomly Morrisons has some great Mediterranean-style serving dishes in their Tranquility range

The platter is online too, but in store were small bowls for mezze, everything is under a fiver so the spare budget could go on a Mezze Legends kit from the Spicery - it includes storage tins for the blends. I gave someone similar and it was one of their best presents ever, they still talk about it two years on! Should be referrals for Spicery too.

My Ulster Weavers order arrived today and is excellent value for the price I paid.

Really pleased, as I gave several sets of them last year (eg with panettone and wine) and had requests for more.

@allyouneedisloveand
Laithwaites.co.uk do some good hampers and if you are a new customer you can £40 off an £80 order....I can send you a code but there are several on the referral thread. They do cheese and wine, snacks and alcohol free as well as the wine based products

Edited

Has anyone actually managed to get the £40 off code to work? I ordered something that was £110 and although the referal code went in the box OK and the tet says it has been applied it hasn't 😥

I think there are some things or doesn’t work on. From memory champagne is one.

Londonmummy66 · 23/11/2024 14:52

@fishfingersandchipsagain - ah that would be it then....

Grassick · 23/11/2024 14:55

@Theimpossiblegirl it's £60 at The Fragrance Shop

Can I ask a question about the heated gilet? I've just ordered one for DH but then realised if doesn't come with a power bank. The regatta ones are £20 but I've seen upthread the Amazon one on sale...,would that work ok??

SootspriteSearcher · 23/11/2024 15:05

For those looking for TV/film, band merch or alternative clothing EMP have a sale on, plus extra 10% off with BLACK10. Also 10% cashback through topcashback. I got a dress for Christmas do, some joggers for gym and dh a star trek jacket.

Yes. It just uses a standard power bank.

Iwanttoputmytreeup · 23/11/2024 15:17

@Londonmummy66
I think the champagne and some of the finest wines stop it working but apparently they are very helpful if you message them

Ahrightsoted · 23/11/2024 15:18

@fishfingersandchipsagain thanks for that...thought I'd be doing a speedy cancellation on it Grin
