Thread 13 - the one where I'm dashing for the school run!

1000 replies

Reastie · 22/11/2024 07:25

Apologies for the rubbish title - I'm trying to get the kids ready and don't want my daughter to miss the bus!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

I have found the Sony turntable I need to get in Argos for £199.

I’m wondering whether to wait for Black Friday or try to find a code.

Does anyone know if Argos usually discount much on Black Friday or where to find a code maybe please?

Threeboystwocatsandadog · 23/11/2024 15:43

Laithwaites. I used a referral code from the referral thread and bought two of the cheese and wine hampers @£50 each. The code took it down to £60 and my bank had 15% cash back, so £9, making each hamper £25.50. My credit card also had 5% cash back so worth checking your accounts.

Blade and Rose have an up to 70% off sale. I got a 3 piece ladybird outfit for £16.50. The discount 10OFF was taking £10 off £40. I didn’t need to spend that much but might help someone.

Lego polybags 3 for £10 here (plus postage). I’ve used the site before and can vouch for it. Might be handy stocking fillers for little Lego lovers.

AndSoFinally · 23/11/2024 16:27

Someone was asking about food warmers earlier. Thermos have these reduced on Amazon. Funky colours available

Excitable clicky weather stick 😂

Ness1234 · 23/11/2024 16:35

Isle of Skye candles have some reed diffusers with 50% off and free delivery.

thereisamouseinthehouse · 23/11/2024 16:37

I do love these threads. All sorts of ideas - I had no idea that you could do an tour of the gardens at Highgrove and my parents would love that and the DC will enjoy a trip to the place where Ghosts was filmed.
There's an interesting other thread at the moment about the most useful thing you own under £30. All sorts of useful items I had no idea existed

The rate at which Claire’s change their offers is bewildering.

All I really want are three palm pals. I missed the best offer, which was a buy 3 get 3 free that stacked with 30% off.

Then I was going to get just the palm pals when they had 40% off, but that went away.

Now the buy 3 get 3 offer is back, but I don’t want to spend £24, even if I would get another £24 of stuff (that I don’t need) for free.

I agree.

I wanted some palm pals but they didn’t have the ones I want, which is a shame as I get free delivery on everything with them as a ‘bestie’ (though they’ve tested this in recent times with items missing from orders and not refunding reward points!).

I found that John Lewis have some sets of two for 11.28 at the moment. Luckily for me they had the two I wanted as one of these sets, but annoyingly it’s a £4.50 delivery charge (and around £3 click and collect charge if you spend under £30). So not a bargain but means I got them for RRP instead of the above RRP on Amazon.

VeruccaSalty · 23/11/2024 16:55

In my local Asda (Belfast) they have a play kitchen down from £60 to 17.50

Elmotickler · 23/11/2024 17:02

Im unlurking to ask for some help. My 12 year old daughter has only asked for 2 things this year. I’m looking for help finding some trendy silver bracelet stacking sets. Also looking for recommendations for a reasonably priced keyboard for her to play at home. She’s only had a taster piano lesson so nothing too extravagant. Thank you in advance.

You can always order an item of clothing and return when you collect if it doesn’t fit 😉 Avoids click and collect charge 🤫

Any scooter Mums, DS has asked for a Sacrifice og hustler in camo. It appears to be oos everywhere. I’ve gone from hoping I’d get it in Black Friday to just hoping I can find one. Any ideas?

Probably a good idea to ask on one of the music threads - if you can run to one with weighted keys you should as it will replicate the feel of an actual piano. Yamaha P145 is a decent model - not that cheap but you may be able to pick one up secondhand - or its previous incarnation as the P45. Secondhand I think they are around £200-250 ish.

ruralwanderer · 23/11/2024 17:28

The postage on the weather stick is so annoying! It would be brilliant for my weather obsessed hubby but I really resent the thought of paying postage for a stick 🙈

itsimpossibletochooseausername · 23/11/2024 17:39

@BendyBusBuggy @lifelongfrugaleer thank you so much i will give these both a try!

YeahWellWhyNot · 23/11/2024 17:40

@ruralwanderer this Davis Hill one is £7. It's £7 postage but £14 still better than the RHS

DeathStarCanteenGal · 23/11/2024 17:42

@Elmotickler maybe try Estella Bartlett for stacking bracelets? I bought one for my 13 year old DD and on the website it shows some of them stacked - and they're all stretchy beaded bracelets or ones with toggles, so no fiddly clasps, which is a bonus
BF25 takes 25% off (works till the 25th)

ruralwanderer · 23/11/2024 17:42

I've stuck one in my basket on Amazon and will see if the algorithm gods take pity on me and offer a voucher code as an incentive 🤞

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 23/11/2024 17:48

@YeahWellWhyNot it's showing shipping as £17 for me! I had a look earlier and was about to checkout until it jumped up to £24 🤣

PumpkinSpicedTea · 23/11/2024 17:56

Can we not just go out and pick up sticks and make our own? 😁

So, I was convinced I didn't need it and threw away my catalogue for Cox and Cox with the discount code. I'd be grateful is someone could PM me a discount code!
