Sorry - I panicked with the title Blush

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Finally caught up, these threads are moving fast. Thanks for the Hot Diamonds codes.
I too managed to bag the Asda rewards deal for the sweets and washing pods, I got them for an even more of a bargain because I qualify for a staff discount.

@wonderfulstuff @strawberrythief1930
My 6 year old has just bought one having saved up and loves it. I'm actually pretty impressed and her 9 year old brother is enjoying it too. He read through the instructions so has been helping her with it and it has so far proven far more popular than their tamagochis which were quickly forgotten after a few days.
It's so hard to predict these things - every child is different - but if a child has specifically asked for it, I think worth taking a punt 🙂

A nice idea for any keen gardeners on your list (although you'd have to give it to them early) is a seed advent calendar from Something Pretty Plants. There are 3 options:

All flower seeds
All veg seeds
Mixed

I bought this for my lovely NDNs last year and they were thrilled with it - they're in their 80s and said that they haven't had an advent calendar for years, so they really enjoyed opening the pack each day. It's £34.50 with free postage. You can get a personalised message printed on it too.

Edited to add, they also do other nice personalised things such as individual packets of seeds for £1.85 and glass baubles containing wildflower seeds.

Can anyone recommend a British wildlife/bird book? For my notoriously difficult dad.

Bill Baileys remarkable guide to British birds is great. Tons of interesting facts, great sketches and a bit of humour here and there. It only seems to be available new in the paperback pocket version, but I managed to get a hardback copy as good as new off world of books website for my dad last year. He loved it. I imagine eBay might have some too.

Having glossed over the whisky related posts, I am now in need of whisky related presents 🤦 any suggestions? Possibly tasting set rather than bottle?

CarrieMoonbeams · 26/10/2024 17:00

@Vimaybe , I bought a lovely book for DH last year called 'Nature's Wonders - moments that mark the seasons'. It's by Jane V Adams, sorry I can't link but it's available on Amazon for £11.99. It's beautiful, it's set out in sections for each of the seasons and tells you what to look out for at each time. The photos are gorgeous too.

@Livinginacatdictatorship I’ve got one and they are a decent idea, I take it into work as unfortunately you can’t ‘pre-crimp’ in the morning and then just toast at work as I’ve found the edges come undone. It does work well when you crimp and toast straight away.

They also do a wrap crimpit which I haven’t tried.

I bought the wrap crimpet last BF when it was on BOGOF. I have to say it's a bit crap
The edges come undone all the time and it is too big and unweidly once it has its filling in. (It wont fit easily in most air fryers) I've gone back to just dry frying a filled, folded wrap in a frying pan, quesadilla style.

Can anyone recommend a decent mud kitchen for a 3 year old and a 1 year old? Thank you!

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 26/10/2024 17:41

Sorry @HeadOfGregor, none in my local Sainsbury’s either.

yoshiblue · 26/10/2024 17:51

@HeadOfGregor I checked our local branch too.

Check out Argos - they have a number of felt tree decorations - could Santa send one of those instead eg they have a cat, dog, giraffe, panda, hippo, sprout, mince pie?

newroundhere · 26/10/2024 18:02

HeadOfGregor · 26/10/2024 16:04

Thank you all for searching 🙏

I think that might have to be the case 🙈 great idea

Maybe Santa could provide a Christmas mouse instead? Ginger Ray have some really cute ones. Or John Lewis?

noodledoodler · 26/10/2024 18:02

Bit late to the party this year but think I managed to get the coffee machine for DS who'll love it and also got the ipad from very with the TREAT30 off, thanks guys.
Had a nosy on studio today, lots there to wade through on clearance tho worth a look, got some kids pyjamas and a radley item (plenty of Radley on clearance) at a bargain price.

Also a few threads ago The Candle Rooms got a few mentions, one of my favourite shops, their pumpkin candle is quite spectacular. Keep an eye out for their Christmas Candle box which apparently is on the way soon.

If anyone is going to Sainsbury's and happens to see one of these vampire mice I would be so grateful if you could pick one up to send, I will of course cover all costs and postage.

DD has saved her pennies for one and they're oos when we went today, she's had the idea that she can ask Father Christmas to make her one 😩

I’m sure they were in my Sainsbury’s yesterday. I’ll try and pop in tomorrow to see if there are any left.

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 26/10/2024 18:12

@HeadOfGregor if you can't get hold of one, I'll be happy to make one if you want. I do needle felting in my spare time ☺️

Edited

My Sainsbury’s order is being delivered on Tuesday and it’s giving me the option for adding the vampire mouse so I assume it’s in stock near me.
If no one else has managed to find it by Monday evening, I’ll add it to my order x
