Sorry - I panicked with the title Blush

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

@okayhescereal i feel your pain. I still haven't found the Crimpit i bought last year for DH stocking. Maybe it will turn up this year?

how big is the item you lost?

It's a thermos mug, so not huge! But at least it isn't cufflinks or something tiny...

What's a crimpet?! Has made me want a crumpet 😂

That's interesting. I assume you mean sous vide? I have a sous vide machine at home but not a container big enough to cook a turkey so good to know you can buy them pre done, will have to take a look at these.

Sous vide basically means under vacuum. The meat is vac packed and cooked in a water bath at a precise temperature. You can cook low and slow this way and makes for really succulent meat.

Yes, sous vide. They do a few joints like that as we’ve had a very nice piece of beef form there too.

it jimmy he turkey crown took around 30 to 40 minutes and it was delicious

Okay it's happened, my system has collapsed. Been buying and stashing presents around the house. This morning I thought I'd give DH an early gift (actually intended for his birthday next week but would have been really handy this morning!!) and I can't find it ANYWHERE 😂😅 Have genuinely turned the house upside down.

Am obviously a complete novice to this being organised lark. Where in earth could it have gone?!

I recently found the bargain fossil watch I bought for DH 2 years ago then lost...it was at the back of the shelf at the top of my wardrobe, so might be worth a look there!?

StrawberryThief1930 · 26/10/2024 12:53

Crimpit sandwich thingy! think they were on a good black friday deal last year

thermos mug is quite big. has it been put in with something else? eg doubled up in say a john lewis bag and then you've not looked because you know thermos mug from different store?

I don't suppose anyone has a spare argos voucher do they please? Son's bed has just broken, including the mattress, so looking at unplanned £200 spend from argos. Thank you!

I posted yesterday an offer I saw from a different site where if you sign up you can get a £10 off voucher - don’t want to post it all again as it was a big post but it should be easy to find as I haven’t posted much x

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 26/10/2024 11:08

@TheWeeDonkeyFella thank you for this. I guess you just get an e-gift card if you purchase through TCB?

All the ones I've bought or checked have been e-gift cards @Justhereforthechristmasthreads but if any store offers an option for a physical plastic cards I'd expect it will show on the details page.

Doooo it! 90% chance i am currently eating one. Zero regrets. Maybe it'll give me energy for further thermos hunting!

@Reastie think we have a thread 8 title brewing here 😂😂

okayhescereal · 26/10/2024 13:05

@StrawberryThief1930 crimpets looks great!!! Going on the wishlist :-D hope you find yours!

IlovePond · 26/10/2024 13:07

😹@okayhescereal - good luck with your search!

Hiding places:

On top of wardrobe
Under wardrobe/bed/sofa/sink
In garage/shed
In a random plastic bag shoved in a corner, (that’s me!)
Airing cupboard/behind boiler/under stairs
Already in your cupboard in use by accident, (been there…)

Sock shop are offering free postage if you buy 2 lots of Lazy Panda bamboo underwear - 3 pairs low rise shorts £9.99 or 3 pairs boxers £14.99. They are good quality and supersoft for sensitive skin. Code OXFORD10 gets you an extra 10% off. These come nicely presented in a cardboard tube so are great for adult stocking fillers. I got 2 sets of 3 ladies shorties for £16.98 delivered. Don't forget to go through TCB for a bit extra.

Any inspiration for an 11 yo girl who is into anything crafty/baking related?

She's asked for acrylic paints so I've got them already, but racking my brains to think of a few other bits that will appeal to her crafty/creative side.

Struggling to find things that are the right age - things seem to be aimed at young kids or teens/adults...

PeppermintTeaThenBed · 26/10/2024 13:38

Just went to my local Hobbycraft and had the overwhelming urge to post about just how adorable the food plushes are! I went with the intention of hopefully getting 3 for my daughter but couldn't choose so ended up with the 6! (3 for £12!) So lovely and were only displayed in 2 small plastic storage boxes so it may be that they are very popular and getting low! Thank you!

Does she have much baking stuff - can you get a mixing bowl and whisk / spatula / icing tubes / cupcake cases / apron and similar - I did this one year for someone who was just getting into baking - all from Poundland and B&M / Home Bargains type shops so got loads for my money. They do lovely spatulas with pictures on now too.

If anyone is going to Sainsbury's and happens to see one of these vampire mice I would be so grateful if you could pick one up to send, I will of course cover all costs and postage.

DD has saved her pennies for one and they're oos when we went today, she's had the idea that she can ask Father Christmas to make her one 😩

Has anyone already welcomed a Bitzee into their home? Are they actually a decent toy or a one trick pony that will gather dust once the initial excitement has worn off?

@Doublebubblegum Fitwaffle’s baking books (she is on tic toc) dd loves them and each week in the school holidays she's picked and made a recipe out of them. I bought her a book and the ingredients for one recipe plus apron, bowl and other baking bits a few years ago and have added to the collection since.

Just been looking at these! Which of her books does your DD prefer?

okayhescereal · 26/10/2024 14:18

@IlovePond thanks! He's away until early next week so have time to go through the place with a fine tooth comb.

It's the 4th thing to go missing recently, including Liz Earle cleanser bargain someone posted on here that I used once and never saw again and two other things as unrelated as cleanser could be to a thermos. At least with this one I can presume I've stashed it somewhere. The others make zero sense! Our house isn't that big, and all our storage is open. My kids are too young to be using my stuff and we don't have guests that often or any contractors or cleaners coming in so can't pin the blame on anyone but my own mental fog 😅

I'll go and have a look in both our Sainsbury's now as they look cute as buttons and wouldn't mind one for my DD, too.

Will get back to you in about 30 mims.
