My social media is full of
"Christmas over for another year "
"Decorations down for another year "
Is it just me who still celebrates Christmas till January?
I don't understand people taking decorations down when it's still festive.

It really depends if I am back at work. Doesn’t feel quite as festive if I am working 😀

WeneedSamVimesonthecase · 27/12/2023 11:16

Yep, it's still the Christmas season for me, and will be till 12th night.

nettie434 · 27/12/2023 11:26

I think Christmas ends with 12th Night but for people who don't believe in Christmas or who aren't bothered about following traditional dates, Christmas increasingly operates 1-31 December. However, unless they are having a NYE party, I think a lot of people like to clear away decorations before the New Year. My road has got people in every category!

PuffyShirt · 27/12/2023 11:33

We very much treat the whole week between as Christmas. Back to normal on 2nd.

dudsville · 27/12/2023 11:34

My DH has always wanted to wait for the 12 days of christmas to end, I've always wanted the tree down on boxing day. This year for some reason I'm still enjoying the decs being up. I'm just going to see how this plays out. Will I still have them up in february?

BigcatLittlecat · 27/12/2023 11:39

It's still Christmas here! Lovely food to be eaten, Christmas presents to be read, family to be seen! It's a lovely time to slow down and relax! Will take decorations down after new year! But for now it's just lovely!

Inextremis · 27/12/2023 11:39

It lasts until Jan 8th for me, as that's DH's birthday (60 this year!). He's back at work on the 2nd, but off again for the week after his day. Decorations will probably come down on the 2nd.

Movinghouseatlast · 27/12/2023 11:41

Yes! I love the decorations and take them down 12th Night

tizalinatuna · 27/12/2023 11:41

12 days of Christmas here. Though the magic does fade.....

Lavender93 · 27/12/2023 11:43

We keep everything up and are in Christmas mode till Jan 1st. This would be different if we had other commitments such as staying with family or going back to work but we don’t.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 27/12/2023 11:44

Family buffet get together this pm at my house. Then seeing DH's auntie for gifts and coffee/mince pies/christmas cake tomorrow or the day after. Christmas still very much a thing here until the 31st.

Then tree down on the 1st.

Helenahandkart · 27/12/2023 11:45

For me it ends in 12th night, but once it’s January I stop rehanging the fallen tree ornaments.

FriedasCarLoad · 27/12/2023 11:45

Full-on Christmas until Epiphany, when most of the decorations come down.

The nativity sets and a few sets of indoor lights will remain up until Candlemas.

Justsackpat · 27/12/2023 11:46

Yay to this. I love the season of Christmas and love to keep the festive season going until 12th night. I just feel really lucky to have a snug house, some nice food, friends popping in and some time to enjoy my home and watch large amounts of Christmas tv.

DaftyInTheMiddle · 27/12/2023 11:47

Festive season until whenever I’m back at work / nursery opens again. Tree and decs come down whenever I can be bothered but definitely in the new year. I’ve never known anyone take decs down before Jan 1st tbh.

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 27/12/2023 11:47

We are all off until the 8th so will take them down on the 6th. Have another week ten days of catching up with family and friends, a few nights away and one last dinner party at ours before then.

Helenahandkart · 27/12/2023 11:47

A lot of people start Christmas WAY too early, so they’re sick of it by now. I try to put off any decorating until at least mid-December. Christmas = December these days.

Ambi · 27/12/2023 11:48

I'm a Christmas is over after the 26th. Decorations stay up until 30th/31st but I'm itching to take them down ASAP. I'm a minimalist at heart and struggle with the mess and things everywhere. I like to start NY with a sparkly clean house, all fresh.

We've started to go away for a few nights in between Boxing Day and NYE every year for a change of scenery which I prefer to the chrimbo limbo weird, don't know what to do with ourselves time.

NearlyMonday · 27/12/2023 11:50

For me, Christmas finishes on Boxing Day. To be honest I enjoy the build up more than the event itself, my favourite day of the year is Christmas Eve!

AdoraBell · 27/12/2023 11:52

I’m happy to keep decorations up and keep eating Christmas food until after New Year.

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 27/12/2023 11:53

It's Christmas until the festive food has been eaten and the tree comes down! Usually 31st dec/1st Jan.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 27/12/2023 11:53

Yes, for me it's Christmas until New Year's Day or maybe 2nd Jan. I've always had 2 weeks off though, as I'm a teacher, so the festivities rumble on from 24th to 1st at least. We've just had one lot of family staying for 3 nights. The next lot are arriving on the 29th and staying 4 nights! I don't go back to work until the 8th. I'll take the decorations down on the 2nd and then spend most of that week doing school work at home.

LaahDeeDah · 27/12/2023 11:56

I take Christmas decks down on 5th Jan, always have always will.

DontBeAPrickDarren · 27/12/2023 11:57

As long as there’s still Christmas dinner leftovers, booze and chocs to get through, it’s still Christmas.

SnowRoomAtTheInn · 27/12/2023 11:57

Christmas lasts until I go back to work Grin. This year that’s Jan 4th.

I calm down on the silly eating after NYE, but decorations stay up and lazing about and doing what I damn well please are order of the day until I’m absolutely dragged kicking and screaming into 2024.
