Tesco slots

Anyone else getting up at stupid o'clock tomorrow to nab their slot? Hate this bloody process every year, wish they’d come up with a better way to do it!

Sadly Tesco are the only reliable option here so I’m tied in 🙄 last year a thread on here kept me going through the early hours so I’m hoping some of you are around again tomorrow!

Yes me, I've set the alarm though I'm sometimes awake ridiculously early anyway. Dh thinks I'm mad, he just doesn't understand the importance!

Thehonestbadger · 06/11/2023 19:44

I’m a Tesco delivery member but honestly I’m not sure I can be bothered.
Every year just seems like the same thing, massive fuss about bagging a slot… all goes quiet until the week of Christmas… massive fuss about all the substitutions, out of stock items and ‘ruining Christmas’

Every year I despair at how many seem to think putting an online order in middle of November guarentees them items.

I think I’d rather go get them than go through this tirade again.

HakunaMatiłda · 06/11/2023 19:45

@delishdelosh - what would be a better way?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 06/11/2023 19:47

What time do they open the slots?
Last year, due to a monumental cock up on my part, we got our slot but not our delivery. So I ended up having to go to Tesco on the 23rd and it was surprisingly easy. Might do the same thing year

Spacie · 06/11/2023 19:48

Last year I completely forgot and still got a slot on the 21st when I did remember a few days later. Nevertheless I have my alarm set this year.

neonjumper · 06/11/2023 19:55

No ... never get the important things for Christmas Day . We just go in and do a Christmas shop nowadays .

Thenewnewme · 06/11/2023 19:57

Slots are open a 6am. I will trying as regular Tesco customer it’s easy to shop with them but I never normally get a Christmas slot as use my Asda fall back slot.

Same here. It's the one time of year I actually enjoy doing my shopping in store.

A less hideously early time would be good - maybe 6pm! Then at least I could have a wine while I’m watching the countdown…

Yes 🙄

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 06/11/2023 20:01

I have been buying a couple of ambient things each week for the last few weeks so will only need fresh stuff closer to the time - cba to get up at 4am when l live near another supermarket.

BettyBakesCakes · 06/11/2023 20:02

Much preferred it when they released them at midnight

delishdelosh · 06/11/2023 20:02

I can’t shop in store - it’s just so utterly overwhelming for me. Most of what I get for Christmas Day itself I get from local shops - our butcher and greengrocer are excellent, and their orders do guarantee our stuff - but I do like to have my basics delivered near to Christmas, and have a slot for last minute stuff because our nearest shops are miles away.

It might not be as bad this year as people like me with the cheaper after 3pm delivery schedule are not eligible for the subscribers slots. I booked a Waitrose one already as I knew I wouldn't get a Tesco one

DinosaurOfFire · 06/11/2023 20:10

My alarm is set, I have some wine in my basket ready to reserve the slot, and before bed will be opening the delivery slot page on my phone. Hoping not to have too long a wait in the morning!

TheFairyCaravan · 06/11/2023 20:11

I’ve set my alarm for stupid o’clock. It does annoy me. Years ago it didn’t used to be like this, they were released at a reasonable time, then they were released at 11pm or midnight. No doubt there will be a queue from around 5.30am

honeyandfizz · 06/11/2023 20:13

Yes I have set my alarm. I have only recently started doing online shopping and my god what a revelation, I hate hate shopping. Last week I couldn't get a slot so had to physically go and wanted to gouge my eyes out by the time I got out.
I actually want a slot the Friday before as I am working the weekend before Xmas and going to Dbro and Dsil for Xmas day lunch anyway so don't need anything specific for the day.

RigorMortisRadio · 06/11/2023 20:30

It's my first year trying to get one and I had forgotten but luckily set a reminder in my calendar for 8pm which has just gone off.

Can I do it on the app or do I need to be on the website?

I've always hated Christmas food shopping and try to go as early as possible on the 22nd/23rd (6am ish) so I'm looking forward to hopefully not having to do that and just be able to nip out for anything unavailable, I get my meat from the butchers so I don't need to worry about anything being unavailable really as I'll be able to pick the rest up at short notice. I only started having my shopping delivered a few months ago and like a pp says it's been a revelation!

Either works - I know previously before the queueing system came in people had it open on multiple things!

What time do people recommend opening the app at? I got a slot for Christmas last year but missed the dates I could order the special order festive food. I live somewhere that doesn't have alot of options and would like to get the special order food.

EasterIssland · 06/11/2023 20:38

We are in Lapland until 22nd so probably I’ll try and get something for 16 or 17th for few things that can last a week and go 23-24 to get things in local stores. Part of me wishes my flight gets cancelled back home and I spend it with Santa so I don’t need to use Tesco 😂

Gazelda · 06/11/2023 20:42

I've got the alarm set for stupid-o-clock. It gives me an ax use to go to bed at 9 tonight, which is a bonus!

RigorMortisRadio · 06/11/2023 20:44

@delishdelosh great thanks Smile

TryAgainWithFeeling · 06/11/2023 20:49

Alarm set for stupid o’clock here too, typical as the kids have only just started sleeping past 6!

I’ve never had major substitution issues, including at Christmas, as long as I log on the night before and update my order. Means I can choose from the most up to date options. Still get the odd substitution but it helps. We’re hosting this year and I’ve not quite figured out what to serve, whether to cook it all from scratch or get most bits ready made!

@delishdelosh - what would be a better way?

They could release slots for different areas on different days/ times. Someone in Scotland doesn’t need to be in the same queue as someone in London. That would cut the queue times dramatically.
