Anyone else getting up at stupid o'clock tomorrow to nab their slot? Hate this bloody process every year, wish they’d come up with a better way to do it!

Sadly Tesco are the only reliable option here so I’m tied in 🙄 last year a thread on here kept me going through the early hours so I’m hoping some of you are around again tomorrow!

Thanks!

For anyone wanting the after Xmas slots they appear to be adding them a day at a time, 26th was available yesterday and now the 27th is available.

flaxentoad · 09/11/2023 07:41

In my area all slots have gone up, to and including 27th! Will try for 28th when it's released.

RigorMortisRadio · 09/11/2023 08:53

That's crazy there's still most slots on 26/27th available where I am! I actually only want the 28th though anyway!

ohforhorsesake · 09/11/2023 09:05

@flaxentoad whatever is in your basket is not guaranteed. The shop could run out of stock before your delivery date !

I had an hour and half wait 😬

I understood that the Food to Order was guaranteed, which is different to the rest of the stuff. That's why when you place the order, by a certain date this can no longer be changed as they have earmarked that Food to Order specially for you and you have already "bought" it. My Food to Order always arrives with a sticker with my name on it.

If I find out any different though, I'll be asking Tesco what the ruddy point of the slots are 😀

The rest of the order may or not not arrive of course, but I always have a Plan B for that stuff.

ohforhorsesake · 09/11/2023 09:32

@flaxentoad I'm not aware of the food to order service. Can you tell me more/ how this works/if I have to pay extra for that. Ty

If you go on the site and click Christmas in the menu, it'll show you the Christmas food. They have meats to order and veg/vegan Christmas dinners and so on. There will be a heading there "Food to Order".

Christmas food to order | Tesco groceries - Tesco Groceries

Add your festive food to order items to your basket. These items must be confirmed by 11.45pm on 14 December. You can still add or amend other items in your order that aren't part of this range until 11.45pm the day before your booked slot

flaxentoad · 09/11/2023 09:36

Forgot to say, no, you don't have to pay extra for it.

flaxentoad · 09/11/2023 09:44

How do I order products in the festive food to order range?

To order Christmas products, you need to have a slot booked between the 20–23 December, or 24 December for selected stores. To secure your slot, check out within 2 hours of booking it. Then, you can start adding festive food to order items to your basket. Please remember to check out every time to save your changes.

I checked out with festive food to order items but they're now showing as unavailable, why?

The festive food to order products will show as unavailable online after 14 December because that's the deadline to check out with the items. As long as you've checked out to save the items in your basket before 14 December, your festive food to order products will be reserved for you.

DisingenuousBatshittery · 09/11/2023 12:33

I would also add with the festive food to order, you are better off adding it now and taking it out on 13th Dec if you change your mind, than faffing and finding out it's out of stock next week. Some will come back in stock when people take them out of their baskets but it's unlikely you'll be editing your basket as the stock levels update.

Pumpkintastic · 09/11/2023 19:18

Is that how it works? I often find despite thi GS being in my basket, if I log in to add another item etc things in my basket are out of stock 😞

As far as I know it's only Ocado who "reserves" what's in your basket. The regular supermarkets rely on stuff being on the shelves. The exception is a few Christmas items which are specifically ordered, such as turkeys.

The Tesco system is just plain crazy - and I don’t mean just at Christmas. Items frequently go out of stock at the store handling your order - fair enough - but when they do you can’t add to or change the order in any way at all without them being removed completely from the order. Even though it might be a common item which you know will absolutely be back in stock on the delivery day. No other supermarket operates in such a bizarre way.

Asda do the same

You know how Tesco opened up the delivery slots on the 7th November, to people on a certain plan, and will open them up to everyone else on the 21st - On the 21st will there just be the dregs of the slots that are left or is it another lot of slots?

I'm trying to work out my chances of actually getting one,

There may be a lot of Off Peak customers trying to get the dregs of the after 3pm slots on the 21st, I will have a look but I have booked a Waitrose slot as a contingency which I could let go if I get a decent Tesco slot which I think is very very unlikely. I will have to pay delivery with Waitrose but not with Tesco as on plan if I get one.

Managed to book 30th this morning for a home delivery.

And your message just appeared and prompted me to check and book for New year's eve so thanks for that! 🙂

MuddledMadge · 13/11/2023 10:33

RedRiverShore4 - Thanks for answering.

MuddledMadge · 21/11/2023 09:03

The slots open up to everyone today.

GettingStuffed · 21/11/2023 09:14

DH got up at 5.30, queue opened 5.45 and he was in 3 minutes after the slots opened. We go a Thursday evening delivery

Edgeofthesea · 21/11/2023 13:13

Does anybody know, with the food to order, whether the price changes depending on the weight of meat? For example, the whole medium turkeys are between 4.5-5.99kg, but it shows a flat cost of £29.95. It also says £5/kg. The size isn't that important to me, but I don't want to pay the same price if I get a smaller bird!

I know this thread is about booking slots, but I thought if anybody would know, it would be you lovely lot of Tesco aficionados!

Spacie · 21/11/2023 13:56

@Edgeofthesea The fresh turkeys are priced by weight. They are showing you the maximum.

Edgeofthesea · 22/11/2023 08:28

Thank you!
