Now these were real selection boxes

Just seen this picture on FB and had to post. These were the selection boxes of my day, better than the crappy ones available these days.

Every year we’d get a selection box/stocking each, a big jar or Quality Streets and Roses for the family and a box of the sugary orange and lemon slices. They lasted us ages, well it felt like it anyway.

Who else remembers these?

I remember that Turkish Delight box!!! Only my mum, her mum and me liked it 😂

ME!!! I am drooling thinking about Topics all covered in proper chocolate. Miss them

Weren’t they just so special! I would be just as excited to receive one of these in my stocking as the presents.

I guess though that was back in the day when there wasn’t so much choice and it wasn’t usual to have chocolate every day, so made it even more amazing 🤩

Looking at the photo you can really see how much bigger chocolate bars were back then and it wasn’t just that my hands were smaller!

And who remembers the Smokers packs for kids? Sweet cigarettes, liquorice pipes with red sprinkles for burning tobacco, chocolate cigars wrapped in silver foil, oh and sweet tobacco ( tasting more of sweetened coconut than baccy) . No wonder we all ended up as smokers. Corner shop tobacconists used to sell the sweet cigarettes all year round too.

I also remember when Easter eggs came in two halves, so the edge of each half was a lovely thick wedge of chocolate that needed serious biting.

It's no nostalgic looking at that lovely lot! We were spoiled way back when. Selection boxes are sad nowadays.

Revels are still around.

I was about to say, I always have a bag of revels at the cinema, me and kids fight not to get the coffee ones.

The coffee ones are the best! Orange are the worst.

I haven't seen Revels for years. I need some now 😆

Coffee creams! Oooooooo I still dream of those coffee creams we used to get in tins of Roses and Quality Street. They were delicious. If you’re lucky enough to find one in a box of chocolates now (& they’re usually labelled cappuccino or some other cobblers) they taste of nothing.

Double Deckers used to have a crisper base and softer middle , more like a Milky Way

Star Bars were called Nutch and bigger peanut bit

Opal Fruits (now gallivanting about as Starburst ) had a lemon sweet not the blackcurrant (lemon was much nicer )

Anyone remember a chocolate in two halves ,( about the size of an egg ) milk chocolate , soft caramel and hazelnut (Nutcracker comes to mind but could be wrong ) .
And one that was two fingers each had three segments . Delicious praline with crisp sugar bits , I think the other variety was soft caramel . This was late 90s/early 00s

Yes, bring back Opal Fruits, ditch the daft Starburst label. And while I'm on why ever did anyone think that Snickers (meaningless cross between sniggers and knickers) was better than the superbly named Marathon with all the implication of energy-giving, long-lasting iconic deliciousness!

Oh my blast from the past, agree with pp selection boxes were just as exciting as the big gift. The snowman and santa ones were a yearly gift, loved the mesh netting around them for some strange reason.

Those selection boxes have maximum Choc bars and minimal packaging.
Now it is the other way around.
They used to be exciting.
Now they are Dismal and pointless.
