Just seen this picture on FB and had to post. These were the selection boxes of my day, better than the crappy ones available these days.

Every year we’d get a selection box/stocking each, a big jar or Quality Streets and Roses for the family and a box of the sugary orange and lemon slices. They lasted us ages, well it felt like it anyway.

Who else remembers these?

What about Golden Cup? I'm sure they came in two sizes. Lush caramel mmm

Oh yeah! Forgot about those! Delicious!
Yes, I think you're right, there were two sizes, a small slim bar and then a big one!

I found the coffee creams to be disappointingly bland. There's not much coffee taste. That said they're still rather pleasant especially with a hot drink.

I used to love those miniture chocolate machine money boxes that we used to get for Christmas in the 1960s/70s. You would put in a penny and get a miniture bar of chocolate

My daughter responded to a Facebook thread about these, saying she always wanted one as a child, but never got one.

I bought one from Ebay last year, and some of the miniature chocolate bars (not Cadbury, but nice enough) for Christmas.

(We might not have got her the chocolate machine, but we had everyone we knew on a countrywide search for the Crystal Barbie Horse and Carriage. Got one about three days before Christmas, and it turned out to be a massive waste of bloody money. Sodding horse wouldn't stand up, and the "brushable" mane and tail just she'd all the hairs if she put a brush near it.)

Oh brilliant @Callipygion - enjoy! I'm WFH today and can hear mine shouting at me from the cupboard 🤣

Callipygion · 22/08/2023 11:59

@Meadowflower2023 thanks! I’m on a day off today, so I shall be lounging about later devouring one of mine! I’m enjoying the anticipation - looking at it and caressing it at the moment (and also considering where to hide the rest!)

I've always thought I'd like the Australian favours of Roses chocolates more than i like UK ones. I don't like strawberry or orange creams, but I love mint, mocha, Turkish delight, nougat, raspberry. Hazelnut creme crisp sounds nice too

I used to really like Cadburys Border Creme Eggs in the tartan foil - they were like a creme egg (that I find too sickly) but with a darkish chocolate filling. Such a shame they were discontinued

Never heard of Border Eggs but i loved the Mackintosh Toffee and Mallow ones

I’d forgotten about those, they were so nice!

We used to get - just once a year in the 1980s - a dark chocolate selection in a very posh box with a ribbon and gold trays. Had a date as a name and was made by one of the historic ?Quaker chocolate makers who have since been swallowed up by the big names.

Does anyone remember Rowntree Nutty bars? They were like a big slab of fudge covered in peanuts. I loved these

There used to be a chocolate bar in the 70s ( I am really showung my age now !)

Red or Blue wrapper depending on which one you went for .

Layer of milk/plain/milk or plain/milk/p;ain

Had the word "sandwich" in the name but cannot recall what /
There was an advert in my Grandmothers magazine where a couple are out walking and the woman says "Darling I;m so hungry I could eat either one of those horses"
Then a debate about milk/plain and he produces this clever chocolate bar .

Fry's Sandwich Bars. I used to try to bite the layers off separately.

Oh my giddy aunt, yes!

Chocolate is so ...boring.... these days 😁

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/08/2023 19:06

Back in the 80s/90s there were chocolate vending mahines at the railway stations .
Tiny bar (I think 20p) plain/milk/fruit&nut/wholenut/ biscuit& raisin
You had to wonder how long they sat there but I never got a dodgy one !

I so agree, there is no joy in chocolate bars these days.

MissMarplesNiece · 23/08/2023 20:30

@70isaLimitNotaTarget I remember back in the 70s there was one of those machines by the bus stop where I used to catch the bus home from work. It sold Bar 6s- remember those, a wafer covered in Cadbury chocolate? To get one out of the machine on Fridays was a weekly treat.

I used to love those. They were either called a milk sandwich or a plain sandwich

If I remember rightly, the plain milk plain ones were called a plain sandwich and were in a red wrapper and the milk plain milk ones were the milk sandwich and were in a blue wrapper.
