Now these were real selection boxes

Just seen this picture on FB and had to post. These were the selection boxes of my day, better than the crappy ones available these days.

Every year we’d get a selection box/stocking each, a big jar or Quality Streets and Roses for the family and a box of the sugary orange and lemon slices. They lasted us ages, well it felt like it anyway.

Who else remembers these?

I loved weekend chocolates! I’m sure I remember them in a tall box with three individual drawers that you pulled out to reveal the beautiful chocolates!

I loved New Berry fruits. Like a liqueur chocolate, with a sugary centre filled with fruit flavoured liquid. The so-called New Berry Jewels that they sell now are nothing like them; they say it's a liquid centre, but it's just a softer jelly.

Shuddering at the memory of inspirations- I don’t think we liked a single one of those chocolates but we fought like cats for the empty box.

Here's another does anyone remember ...........?

They were pieces of Cadburys Flake , anout an inch long . Dipped in milk/white/plain cholcolate and chocolate strands , pr drizzled with chocolate or nuts .

Probably 10+ years ago ?

I'm 67 and can remember the Christmas treats so well!
Liquorice smoker's pack.
After eights.
Orange and lemon slices.
Turkish delight dusted in sugar.
Chocolate covered brazil nuts.
Dates called " Eat me"
Big bowl of nuts in shells.
Tube of Smarties.
Quality street.
Chocolate covered cherries.
Liquor chocolate's.
Probably more......

Does anyone else remember when Bornville chocolate bars had 2 very thin layers ,cannot recall if they were wrapped individually ? Gold foil.

And when you got a box of chocolates if they were underwight they topped it up with a tiny rectangle of chocolate hidden under one of the others .-which of course my DSis would claim.

Gosh! Yes! Now you mention it, I do remember Bournville being two thin bars. I had completely forgotten that!
And the little bit of extra choc in a box. It was like finding a bit of treasure.

Who remembers the Lime Barrel in Milk Tray - oooooh that was goooorgeous!

Used to be little mini Bournevilles and Dairy Milks in the Roses chocolates. And Roses also used to have chocs like Montelimar and Almond Charm which they dont have anymore.

Also my dbro and I got a "smoking set"! Chocolate lighter, cigars and sweet cigarettes. Oh and coconut tobacco. 😂 Does anyone else remember those?

I used to love those miniture chocolate machine money boxes that we used to get for Christmas in the 1960s/70s. You would put in a penny and get a miniture bar of chocolate

Now these were real selection boxes

Does anyone remember a chocolate bar, you used to get in selection boxes called Skippy!
M&S used to make a chocolate bar, with three layers of white, milk & dark chocolate.
Another favourite of mine was a bar called walnut bliss.
At a corner shop, I would by a lucky bag

These would be a huge hit if they were brought back.

I got my dd a toy claw machine a few years ago, she removed the toys and filled it with chocolate and sweets, every time her friends came over she’d get them to put a coin in the machine(any coin would do) to grab a sweet. I swear us adults played on it the most. The little entrepreneur in making make lots of pocket money 😂 I know all my DDs would go nuts for their own mini chocolate vending machine!

This was my favourite as a child, it was huge! and great value for money compared to other chocolate bars.
