Curious to see how many presents people have under their tree.
I have two dcs and never think it looks enough, I just love to see their little faces light up in the morning.

This isn't a judgy thread I'm just genuinely curious.
Here's mine ours its just presents for 2 dc. Me and dp exchanged today.

We no longer do presents in my family. We’re all strapped for cash and we’re all adults, so we save our money for things we need throughout the year. Am enjoying seeing everyone else’s presents and trees, so no need for anyone to feel sad for me.

I have one present, from a friend, which is in the gift bag. The others are “stunt” presents - wrapped empty boxes which I wrapped a few years ago so that the tree looks more festive.

Merry Christmas everyone 🎅🏼

“Stunt” presents 🎁😂!
Great idea!
There used to be a Christmas Tree in high street that had presents all over it.
As a child, I was disappointed to learn that it was just “ Stunt” presents 🎁!

Happy Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all- When DC are grown, it makes Christmas a lot quieter.

Was planning a Christmas walk, but bucketing down outside.

I refuse to post on this thread. I hope we are teaching our children other values. Possessions don’t make us happy. What would make me happy is another cuddle with my father, a crazy Christmas dance with him! Or watching tuck into his sister’s Christmas cake which he loved! Make these memories folks! X

You do realise it isn't either or. A pile of presents, no matter how big or small, do not prevent other traditions taking place, nor other memories being made.

We have a lot of presents, a ton of traditions and some incredible memories of silly games, lots of laughter, cousins playing together, great-grandma having us all doubled over during a particularly lively game of Trivial Pursuit. We have memories of the year we had to improvise when the turkey had gone off, the year we went rogue and had something different for Christmas dinner. The years at home in pjs and those with the massive family gatherings. All of this and more despite there being an 'obscene, vulgar and ghastly' amount of presents under our tree.

It's just what people enjoy doing.
It helps them to feel proud of how much they have bought and boosts their ego I guess.
If you look at family youtubers they are all full of huge hauls/ mountains of presents.
It's all "look what we bought. I bought this and I bought that".
It doesn't appeal to me personally but I know some people like that type of thing.

I'm a single mum and I managed to spread the cost this year.
Their father (a compulsive gambler) never contributes. They don't have grandparents or extended family who buy for them. It's literally just me.
I must admit I had a moment when I looked at the presents (they had about 12 quality presents each) that I had carefully chosen for my children.
They loved each one of them and were so appreciative.
I just thought to myself "I did this on my own, and I did okay".

You did better than ok, you did great. Not only saving for and choosing them gifts, but for raising children who expressed their joy and appreciation. I'd have loved to have seen your present pile, FWIW.

Sceptre86 · 25/12/2022 11:55

I'm just here to see the wrapping paper. Obviously if threads like this make you feel inadequate then don't click on them.

Modest pile!

Your dog is just beautiful 😍 Those eyes!!

maddiemookins16mum · 25/12/2022 11:57

Ours is a bit lacking (mainly cos DD is 17 and I couldn’t get a new suitcase under the tree). Me and DH only tend to get each other little things plus Theatre/show tickets or a wee break away).

Most of the present are from grandparents, we only bought one cheap wrapped present each. The gaming PC, desk and chair are our present for our boys to share but that cost a bomb but hoping a good investment. Then a few for the cats from us and 2 for each us adults!

This is grotesque.

DiddyHeck · 25/12/2022 12:16

I do not judge people for spending on their family. We all have different incomes. I judge those that have to share a picture of the great pile of presents for some form of validation, more this year than ever.

I judge people like you and all the others, who have come onto this happy thread to spread your misery.

When you were at school and saw others playing a game you didn't want to join in with, I expect you were one of those kids who went out of your way to run over and spoil it.

Grow up and leave your playground behaviour behind!

Furries · 25/12/2022 12:18

@WouldJudasLeaveIt - thank you, I love my tree too!

Furries · 25/12/2022 12:20

@oakleaffy - ha, I can imagine the disappointment! I have occasionally considered adding a MN stunt pineapple to the pile 😂

Well here are my books and I’m thrilled I don’t care they are 2nd hand they are priceless happy Christmas everyone.

I don’t think there’s anything better than books for Christmas - new or second hand doesn’t matter. I got a few books and can’t wait to read them. That’s the thing some people on this thread are failing to understand - the presents under the trees aren’t necessarily expensive and may be second hand. What is heartwarming is that they were chosen & wrapped with love.

Furries · 25/12/2022 12:24

The misery posts on here are getting ridiculous. As posted above, no presents here. As of 9am today I am also unexpectedly on my own for the day, so it’s all gone a bit tits-up. I could be sat here moaning and feeling sorry for myself, but I’m not. I’ve enjoyed seeing the trees, decor and pets.

If anyone wants to posts pictures of their Christmas dinners, then please do. I now won’t be cooking one today just for me, so I’d like to salivate over what everyone is tucking into 🍗.

Sofa for DS8

Corner for DD18m

Awww a lovely display! Love the corner

Jusforthisthread · 25/12/2022 12:30

The competitive virtuosity and false concern about those less well off being displayed by some on this thread is incredibly patronising and disingenuous.
Christmas is what you make of it and envy is the thief of joy.

I for one am thoroughly enjoying nebbing at peoples presents, wrapping and decor!
Merry Christmas Everyone

I've just sent a text to my brother (50 odd) to remind him of the Christmas he was so excited that this little demon in pyjamas and a dressing gown launched himself in to the middle of his present pile. I can still see it in my minds eye.

Happy Christmas to everyone.

That's what Christmas is for 😂

Mostly for 5 year old daughter. Probably a birthday present for me from DH as it is my birthday as well. Merry Christmas everyone.

And Happy Birthday!
