Curious to see how many presents people have under their tree.
I have two dcs and never think it looks enough, I just love to see their little faces light up in the morning.

This isn't a judgy thread I'm just genuinely curious.
Here's mine ours its just presents for 2 dc. Me and dp exchanged today.

Why does it being anonymous make it any different? People still have eyes and still will make comparisons. People will still feel guilty at not having enough for their children. It’s completely crass. No one is saying ‘no one have any joy’, what a daft comment. If people saying they find it crass to share present pile pictures would remove any person’s ‘Christmas Joy’ then they should definitely reevaluate their attitude to consumerism, greed, social media and their need to brag. That would actually be incredibly sad, so much of the day being tied up in showing off to people on an ‘anonymous forum’.

SomersetDreams · 25/12/2022 08:33

MN actually helped me get this....I started doing a job that is on the money thread here and out of the blue...that happened. Anyway, thanks MN and Merry Xmas!

Gosh the grinches are well and truely out aren’t they? I think we all know that the number of gifts has no relevance on the cost involved. We all know that spending £20 on a two year old could mean a dozen large boxes, but £20 on a teen is like a gift card. We have no idea from each photo how many people there are gifts for, the ages, and cost, and what is actually in them. My tree is ridiculous, but there are gifts for 11 people under them and one of the grandparents requested new pillows which is the most ridiculously large sized parcel and takes up the entire space at the front of the tree. Is that a ridiculous consumer greed gift? A new pillow?
honestly get off all your high horses, the trees are all beautiful

(Oh and one year I struggled to by dd a £10 trike as I was so poor, but I still loved looking at other peoples trees)

Would it have made it less of a Christmas for you not seeing those photos?

bridgetreilly · 25/12/2022 08:35

OP, you have plenty. It is not a competition.

FitAt50 · 25/12/2022 08:36

I always hate the pictures people post on Facebook of their children's presents pile. Particularly the pre birthday ones with all the wrapped gifts and balloons. It's very common.

Twiglets1 · 25/12/2022 08:38

Hohohoholidays · 25/12/2022 00:24

There have been times (before foodbnks were so common) that I have been so poor that I haven't been able to afford food, had no Internet as couldn't afford the monthly charge etc. (,I would go to my parents' house to use it). I still loved thread's like these, they didn't make me feel bad, they made me feel joyous and happy. I wish people would stop trying to spoil everyone's fun. if we look hard enough we can find offense anywhere and everywhere but why live like that? I just try to take the positive from everything

Yup exactly so.
Im loving this thread and enjoying seeing all the different Christmas decorations and (tbh) living rooms because I’m nosy! It makes me feel happy to hear the stories about children who will be excited when they receive the gifts - a new (to them) bike or doll or whatever. My own children are adults now so the pile of actual presents is smaller. I think people who are feeling sensitive about not having much under their own trees should click on other threads today tbh. We all have sadnesses in our lives but it’s not healthy to begrudge other people for having what you lack whether it’s money, a big family or whatever.

Rowgtfc72 · 25/12/2022 08:43

Wrap as I go and stash them in the big box. Dd is 15 and desperate for her personalised converse and ferrari jacket.
Stocking is for the puppy- think he may have more than dd. Puppy was dhs present a couple of months ago. Puppy currently very happy playing with the paper🤣

And I seem to have missed getting my star in the picture but it’s equally as important as the heart. It’s very much in remembrance of my mum, something that reminds us of her, and every year we have a topping out ceremony when someone climbs the ladder and sticks nana on the tree just like the star she was. We have a good laugh and exchange a few memories of her, her penchant for what’s called hooker shoes nowadays is always brought up and if there are tears it’s because someone has been outrageous and we’re crying with laughter. Twenty five years after losing her and she’s still got it ❤️

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

What a beautiful post. Your love for her still shines through these words, which particularly resonate with me because my tree is also full of beautiful memories of my beautiful mum. Some are decorations she made for me when I was just starting out in my first home and didn't have many. Some are ancient baubles from my childhood tree that I helped her decorate each year. Now, my DC helps me In the same way. It's a lovely way of keeping her spirit still very much alive and part of the family.

Wishing all on this thread a wonderful day, however you are choosing to celebrate. With brightest blessings ✨✨✨

No. Buying more for people doesn’t equate to loving them more. I hate these sorts of threads.

Where has anyone said that it does? If you hate them why on earth do you upset yourself by looking at them?

I never post what's under our tree. It would make heads explode on here. My kids ask for nothing, they understand the word know, are kind, generous and thoughtful. I go way overboard and have no shame in admitting it. I just have no inclination to share.

However, I do love viewing these threads, cos I'm nosy more than anything. I also love seeing the decor, trees and wrapping skills more than anything. I think my favourite part is the photobombing pets, there was an adorable dog on the fridge thread.

If people don't like it or think it 'crass' or 'vulgar' it's quite simple, just don't look. There's all sorts of threads that hold no interest to me, I simply scroll on by. I don't understand what those who come on with their sneering disapproval hope to gain?

Happy birthday!

Thank you very much :)

Starseeking · 25/12/2022 08:51

I'm on my own on Christmas morning for the first time ever as my EXDP is dropping my 2 young DC back at lunchtime. I'm currently lying in bed, so I like looking through this thread and vicariously sharing in other people's joy while I wait for my own DC to come back.

They'll be so excited seeing their presents and unwrapping them, I can't wait to give them a hug!

Some gorgeous gift wrapping on this thread, I’d also love to know where that lovely house wrapping paper came from!
I’m in bed so will spare you all a photo, even I know my presents look obscene this year but I don’t care, my kids will be happy in the morning, I’ve donated to charities because I can afford it and am taking 2 of my dcs friends to visit their mums in hospices in the morning because they have no other family nearby and I have no idea what’s going to happen to either of them when the inevitable happens so there are plenty of presents under the tree for them too aswell as stockings.
No one has any idea what’s going on in anyone else’s lives, just be nice. If you can’t manage that at least ignore and if you can’t do that then I send you even more Christmas cheer because you probably need it!!!

This is beautiful. Amazing of you to look out for those dc as well as your own. I hope you and yours have a lovely peaceful Christmas.

user1964097 · 25/12/2022 08:59

When I was young in the 60s, we didn't have presents under the tree, we had them in pillowcases at the end of our bed, all crammed full and overflowing. People don't seem to do this nowadays, Tree was a small artificial one on a table.

DS, a child of the 90s had his in a Christmas sack, with a few under the tree with mine and DH's. Everything seems under the tree nowadays.

Octopusmittens · 25/12/2022 09:01

dollymixtured · 25/12/2022 08:06

This thread is one of the best illustrations I have seen of the English class system. The premise is completely vulgar and pretty much every post has reinforced what @Weepachu said. The idea of posting pictures of your presents to impress strangers is just absolutely ghastly yet my guess is that those doing it have no idea that the message they are sending out about themselves, to many posters, is the direct opposite of what they are trying to portray.

Pomposity at it’s finest 🙄

Iamnotausername · 25/12/2022 09:02

It's a bit odd, this thread.

There have been so many posters recently that have asked about spending money on something and then getting properly laid into about reading the room, thinking about those with no money and so on. All with pretty obvious titles.

And yet... this thread is literally only about bragging about how many presents you have or shouting about how much you don't care. 🤔

Also, please remember that most fancy wrapping paper can't be recycled.

I hope you all have a lovely day and if today is going to be difficult, I wish you peace. X

AllOfThemWitches · 25/12/2022 09:02

harrassedmumto3 · 25/12/2022 05:01

And to the poster with the reverse snobbery 'working class' theory, hope your children enjoy their two secondhand presents and satsuma Wink

See, comments like this are real dickish as many kids will literally be receiving a couple of secondhand presents.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 25/12/2022 09:10

@Worriedmama23 - I'm tagging you because it was so disappointing to see your posts particularly singled out for scorn in such a mean-spirited way.

I'm sorry your DD has been having a rough time. I hope her Christmas is as fantastic as you've pulled out all the stops to make it for her, and that this is the start of happier times for you both.

Littlepuddytat · 25/12/2022 09:11

I come to Mumsnet to get a peek into other people's lives. My dc didn't get anywhere near as much as some of these pictures but i don't feel bad because i spent within my means and got them some thoughtful gifts that they loved.

This thread is a look into other people's living rooms waiting for excited children to come down and discover that santas been. What's wrong with that? The pictures with hardly any presents are just as interesting to me as the ones with tons. I love getting a glimpse into other people's Christmas.

Plus you've got no idea what's in those presents. Could be poundshop toys or secondhand. Just because there's a lot of them piled up it doesn't mean anything. About half of my dcs presents were secondhand clothes and books.

gamerchick · 25/12/2022 09:16

People still winging I see. 🙄im.sorry so many are unhappy today that they have to find threads to moan on. Hope your day picks up.

kavalkada · 25/12/2022 09:19

I had a high fever yesterday and I woke stick, vomitimg and in terribly state. I love this thread. These are my pictures before and after. These are all presents from all my family for my kids, it was my job to buy and wrap them and I’ll miss seeing them under the under the tree with christmas Lights

Not trying to be braggy at all just genuinely curious. A bit like the Christmas fridge thread.

Don't like the Christmas fridge thread, either.

kavalkada So pleased to see someone who enjoys a ribbon as much as I do. Lovely wrapping!
