'With all the trimmings'

I couldn't even type that without my teeth itching.

I'm sure they'll be plenty more...Smile

I know a person who uses any holiday (Halloween, Christmas) to absolutely splurge on their kid who’s about 3 years old now since the day they were born. Elf of the shelf, different pair of themed/monogrammed pyjamas every day of the month leading up to it, huge grotesque Christmas Eve box, personalised cups, cakes etc and posts it all every day. Her Christmas tree is full to the brim with tacky pink decorations, feathers, bows the lot - makes me sick! And I know she doesn’t earn a lot. It’s really odd to me.

Dakotablue · 20/12/2022 18:58

I honestly am not fussed about eating a traditional Christmas dinner. I'd happily get a takeaway or go out for a Chinese or something.

Christmas jumpers. I don't mind things which are gaudy, but these always seem to be itchy and ugly to boot. And if you don't own one, people think you're being a grump. I AM A GRUMP!!

Me too, bah humbug in fact lol 🙄

Well isn't this a cheery thread

Yes....it is. It is cheery to avoid the rampant, competitive, forced, grim social media dysfunction that christmas has become. It's very cheery to not give a damn, drink wine, eat cheese, walk in the woods, and watch old films with someone you love.

KarenOLantern · 20/12/2022 09:09

Me too, but I can't put my finger on why..? Any ideas?

I usually want to punch the person who says this… I’m always last minute and they’re likely to be smug and organised and just giving me added queasy stress.

“Artisan” too.

🤮

Means that the product is probably 50% more expensive.

OMG12 · 20/12/2022 19:02

Christmas Pud in fact anyone using “pud” will immediately be out of my life … forever

Taxanimal · 20/12/2022 19:03

Over hype.
huge spending on presents.
Christmas jumpers.
having to play board games.
absolute shit on TV.
secret Santa at work.
poinsettias.
people who don’t have to work making me feel guilty about not making it a super magical time for my children by taking them to see Santa at the North Pole.

I should probably stop now…

motleymop · 20/12/2022 19:03

I only heard of Christmas boxes last year. I do find that quite grim. Stockings and presents are more than sufficient, surely.

EspeciallyD · 20/12/2022 19:05

Yes to cauliflower cheese with the dinner, all sorts of wrong. As is glazing root veg with honey or any other sweet stuff, they are sweet enough as it is.

‘Picky bits’ 🤮

^ This by a million miles! Those words send a shiver down my spine. 🤮

rosemarysalter · 20/12/2022 18:30

Photos on social media of people's

Tree
Christmas dinner
Expensive braggy presents
Pics of their kids doing 'festive activities' like gingerbread house
Every single thing they've done in December: lights/market

It's too much! Enjoy your day in the moment

Hope this makes you feel better

There is a hilarious Irish meme doing the rounds where a woman says something like " matching pyjamas for all the family. Why do men agree to that? I'll tell you why..its cos he's riding her sister". Class

Dakotablue · 20/12/2022 18:58

I honestly am not fussed about eating a traditional Christmas dinner. I'd happily get a takeaway or go out for a Chinese or something.

The thread about being invited over for a meal at Christmas and being given a Chinese takeaway is over there.

EatYourVegetables · 19/12/2022 07:33

“Prezzies.”

More widely:

“My 14 year old got told by friends that Santa doesn’t exist, AIBU to send him a forged letter from Santa and also have a stern word with the friend?”

Christmas eve boxes.

”The kids are getting the presents they wanted but it doesn’t look like much wrapped so what mountains of plastic tat can I buy to make it look bigger?”

Just generally rampart consumerism.

At 14?!

Jzp · 20/12/2022 19:13

Tinselpipes · 19/12/2022 07:50

Families in matching festive pyjamas

Absolutely this. My biggest ick

Tusue · 20/12/2022 19:14

Christmas Eve boxes ?? I don’t see the point
elf on the shelf ?.? I don’t see the point
buying something simply because the person bought you something -I give up
saying they are buying more so the other person has a surprise to open- and these are adults ! Total consumerism

Irongiant · 20/12/2022 19:14

Stripedbag101 · 19/12/2022 08:36

Christmas jumpers and the pressure to wear them to work events. I don’t own one and never will!

I loathe Christmas jumpers and the pressure to conform or you’re the grumpiest person alive. One year I roughly pinned a Christmas decoration to the front of a normal jumper which shut up but clearly irritated my colleagues but also made me laugh to myself all day.

😮TAKE THAT BACK!!! You monster!!! 😮

oggie679 · 20/12/2022 19:12

At 14?!

Really? Santa at 14?
I told my children from the age of about 4 Santa wasn’t real. It’s lying to them in my HO.
my poor daughter got a ticking off from her teacher when she revealed to the whole class there was no such thing as Father Christmas. I think she was 9

HimiJendrix · 19/12/2022 10:49

I must be a total miserable fucker as I find myself nodding in agreement to everything in this thread!

And me !!! You are my people . It’s all so crass now and social media makes it 100 times worse !!!
It’s all about boasting … it blows my mind when people post their elf pictures wtf who is that for 🙈🙈

Inserthiliarioususernamehere · 20/12/2022 19:30

“Happy Christmas”. Grates on me something rotten! It’s happy birthday and merry Christmas fgs 🤣

Littlepicker · 20/12/2022 19:32

“You all ready for Christmas?”

Ethsmum · 20/12/2022 19:34
