'With all the trimmings'

I couldn't even type that without my teeth itching.

I'm sure they'll be plenty more...Smile

People whining (like you lot on here) about what other people do and say for/about Christmas..
mif you don’t want to do Christmas Eve boxes or Elf on the shelf don’t do it, but stop whining about others doing nice things for their children.
people moaning about how many presents other people buy their kids!!… Good god, I wish people would just do what they want and stop moaning!

nicnac79 · 22/12/2022 23:34

Auuggh! I hate matching Christmas pyjamas. Looks tacky and makes me 🤢 when families post pics of themselves on FB.

QS90 · 22/12/2022 23:39

Lol moaning about moaning... moan-ception.

Socialistmisanthropist · 23/12/2022 00:04

Fucking public school in-laws who send Christmas Cards with pictures of their KIDS on.

Literally makes me want to hurl and gets ripped up immediately and thrown in recycling..
I just don't get it. I wouldn't send some randoms who don't care about us a pic of my family..... Self awareness PLEASE..NO ONE CARES.

AutumnCrow · 23/12/2022 00:52

“I buy nephew and niece”.

It was bad enough as “I buy for nephew and niece”, having morphed from the understandable “I buy a present for my nephew and niece”.

But I’m not from round these parts and read the subject-object rather literally.

But the whole point of the thread is supposed to be light hearted, isn’t it? A lot of the posts are funny, almost like observational humour. You’re not supposed to take it seriously. 🎄

Yes, lol 😆 I think it was started by The Beatles in the 1960’s. It was Merry Chrimbo and a Gear New Year.

That was "Crimble". Just as ick, but not "Chrimbo".

Oh, gosh, you’re right! When I posted it something didn’t seem quite right. I’d forgotten it was ‘Crimble’. 🥰

@grannycake

Your Val Doonican reference made me laugh. Do you also remember New Year TV the White Heather Club? Dreadful programme. There was always a Stanley Baxter special as well

The White Heather Club! I remember it well. My 50-plus daughter and I still laugh about it. We used to watch it when it was just the two of us. Over the following few days one of us was guaranteed to sing the first lines of “You take the high road and I’ll take the low road…!” then we’d scream laughing 😆
PS - with YouTube on tv you can now relive it 😁. Merry Christmas.

TheLadyOfHay · 23/12/2022 04:06

Another White Heather Club watcher, and member too! DGran bought me a kilt to wear whilst watching it

KatieGalPal · 23/12/2022 06:48

People who say they have an ‘open house’ on Christmas Day/boxing day etc. the ones who say they’ve got loads of food and drink and people just pop in and out throughout the day. I have no idea why by I find myself cringing

KatieGalPal · 23/12/2022 06:49

I've heard people say this online but never actually met anyone who does this.

Lelophants · 23/12/2022 08:22

I feel mean saying this but I actually find how many people decorate their Christmas trees really ugly. Such a brash clash of colour and then shove an angel on top. The tree looks like it wants to cry. I also think most artificial ones looks ugly and like upside down cones. I prefer how real ones look. Very snobby of me I know.

And crimbo can fuck off.

I hate the insistence that January must be rubbish. January is what you make it. I like to spend the first week at least eating the unfinished chocolate, having a nice drink etc, because we’ve got plenty left because we started it at Christmas and not at the end of November. No, I’m not going to buy a gym membership, I carried on exercising in December so why would I need to increase it in January. Just the whole drive to move on to the next thing we’re supposed to be doing, even though it’s still Christmas.

I quite like January too! I do get a ‘new year, new me’ feeling which I enjoy, and I do make New Year’s resolutions which I enjoy working towards across the year. I am mostly very happy with my life so the resolutions are all things which add to my life, rather than take away/deprive myself of things!

I am also a keen planner, so I live for getting a new diary and filling it up with all the things I am going to do in the next year!

Flyinggeesei234 · 23/12/2022 10:57

Phrases around food like ‘crack open’, ‘munching on’ and ‘cheeky’ seem to get more prevalent.

‘We munch on selection boxes for breakfast’ is a particular horror I saw on here once about Christmas morning. It’s seared into my brain.

Also recently seen: ‘yummy sides’. As if someone would attempt to serve some disgusting ones unless chummily guided not to.

Also: ‘serve’ and ‘sides’. And ‘chummily’.

Benjispruce4 · 23/12/2022 11:54

‘Main present’

Yes. But some aren’t quite so light hearted.
Having digs at parents who want to do elf of the shelf etc…. Why do people care so much what others do with their children? Just sad

I agree.

These "Light Hearted" threads are just slagging other people off for doing/having things they enjoy.

It is bitchy.

Oh I love these (although don't send them myself). I'd much rather see a picture of someone's family than some random card from WH Smith, and I love analysing what they're trying to signal through their choice of photo.

I love these too, I hadn't seen the son in one for a couple of years and he has grown so tall and handsome, I loved getting it!

Fair enough. You’re right. Some of them aren’t light hearted. I take your point.

Great one, I feel same way. Give Jan a chance!
