'With all the trimmings'

I couldn't even type that without my teeth itching.

I'm sure they'll be plenty more...Smile

Christmas jumpers. I don't mind things which are gaudy, but these always seem to be itchy and ugly to boot. And if you don't own one, people think you're being a grump. I AM A GRUMP!!

gettingolderandgrumpier · 19/12/2022 08:02

Are you all ready for Christmas? Argh
also just general giddiness from adults in the run up to Christmas especially those that don’t have children I mean why ? I know I’m a Scrooge but it makes me cringe .

ChristmasCwtch · 19/12/2022 08:02

“More the merrier” makes me itch 😂

I also hate “just popping to [INSERT RANDOM SUPERMARKET] to pick up my bits” only said at Christmas, means cranberry sauce and sprouts etc.

Ineedtocleanmywoodenblinds · 19/12/2022 08:02

Making fucking memories (although not strictly Christmas it’s all over the place at the moment).

crispsandnuts · 19/12/2022 08:04

Definitely 'traditional'
Then you see their 'traditional' lunch photos on social media Confused.

Id much rather someone say ' turkey, veg and shop bought obligatory bread sauce'

"Are you all ready for Christmas" is so annoying! Getting ready for Christmas is just doing some shopping right? I know there is more to it but ultimately it's buying gifts and food, to whatever extent you like. All the rest is optional frippery, but this question implies it's compulsory somehow. And the assumption that people will be stressed and pressured getting 'everything done'. Why live your life like that??

QS90 · 19/12/2022 08:05

Oh and Christmas markets! The consumerism. But also most things on them seem just to be expensive clutter, and if you go anywhere near one of them, the stall holders look at you hopefully and it's really awkward 😬😱

LittleCottage · 19/12/2022 08:06

Christmas 'lunch'

Drinks

Getamoveon36 · 19/12/2022 08:08

Christmas Eve boxes - I mean WTAF.
elf on the shelf - when did that become a thing?
pictures of kids with all of their presents posted on FB

most Xmas songs esp Mariah Carey

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 19/12/2022 08:08

Bits

Just popping out for the last few bits.

What else can I buy DD, I still want to get her a few more bits.

I hate the word bits.

Ineedtocleanmywoodenblinds · 19/12/2022 08:10

Oh and those fucking awful tween quotes on Instagram and Facebook about kids carrying on your traditions when they’re older or something like that (this applies to any Christmas quotes and non Christmas ones too 😂)

'Breaking up' from work. Schools break up, I finish one day for annual leave

Yes I finish for the weekend on Friday like I do every week unless I want extra time off im in and quite frankly unless you have young children or are staying with family / gone away why do you need to be off for 2 weeks .

You'd love my mum.

She is kicking off because I haven't put the tree up. I've got a 10wk old baby and don't have time or space.

She rang last week to ask if I've 'done all my preparations'. Er what preparations? Have I ordered my food and wrapped up the presents- no and no. So she took it upon herself and ordered my Christmas Dinner food online despite me telling her I wasn't cooking a full dinner this year. So now I'm forced into cooking a turkey dinner because she's ordered and paid for it.

She expects Christmas to do be done in a certain way. The problem is that we are a totally different family to her. DH is Muslim for a start, DS is 18 and not bothered. I'm busy breastfeeding a small baby. I usually work Christmas so I was looking forward to spending a chilled out Christmas at home for once but that doesn't fit her Christmas vision.

Oh yeh I agree actually.

Snoopystick · 19/12/2022 08:14

Elf on the shelf on social media….. bloody competitive parenting.

Having loads of presents from Santa. My kids thought they were naughty growing up as all their cousins presents were from Santa. We only did one, rest from actual people.

Please tell me you're not going to cook a meal you don't want because someone who isn't going to be there told you to??
donate the turkey, freeze the rest and cook what you want!!

Yes my mum is driving me mad she’s one of these insane giddy adults . Because I’m not as giddy as her I’m unwell / tired no mum I’m just fed up of the constant Christmas chat and I’m not allowed to talk about anything else because I can’t bring the mood down . I have a lot of other things going on right now but I can’t talk about it to her because it’s Christmas and I can’t be down .

PinkHeadphones · 19/12/2022 08:18

Twitch. I don't even really know what it means but it seems to be " I pride myself on getting everyone's present three months in advance but then feel I'm miss out on the festive shopping atmosphere in December so I feel the urge to buy loads more stuff".

ProperVexed · 19/12/2022 08:18

"Luxury" when used to describe food.
Luxury Christmas Pudding
Luxury bread sauce
Luxury brandy butter.
Why is it luxury? Really gets my hackles up.

Oliveandbay · 19/12/2022 08:19

'Chocs' & 'Choccies'

Andsoforth · 19/12/2022 08:20

Speaking the word Xmas - bad enough to write it but just say “Christmas”
(on a non Christmas related note, the word ”heart” instead of “love” also makes my teeth itch

MagpiePi · 19/12/2022 08:20

Christmas being ‘ruined’ because plans have to be changed slightly.

LadyHester · 19/12/2022 08:21

People who call Father Christmas Santa.
Going misty-eyed about the celebration of greed and consumerism (cf most Christmas songs).
North Pole breakfasts.
The demise of Advent.
Taking the tree down on Boxing Day.
Goodness I’m a curmudgeonly old fart.

Merlott · 19/12/2022 08:24

Making ridiculously complex and stressful travel arrangements to see a variety of relatives who all live at opposite ends of the country and then complaining about it Confused

...it's optional... No one is forcing you to drag your children up and down the A1/M1 for the bulk of the Xmas break. Maybe tell those relatives to get to fuck it's their turn to visit you?

Or the flip side, passive aggressively dropping thinly veiled comments about being lonely at Xmas, bleak time of year ( 🙄) but not actually reaching out to anyone to make plans.

... you're an adult, use your words, arrange something fun for yourself?!!!!!!

‘Picky bits’ 🤮

Yes. The absolute worst. 🤮
