'With all the trimmings'

I couldn't even type that without my teeth itching.

I'm sure they'll be plenty more...Smile

@Narwhaleahoy
Interesting I've not heard of a GP not wanting the pics of grandchildren

I hear you!
the family gatherings with far too many people and things going on, even though they are family you love.
Going away to family - the altered mealtimes, different foods, bedtimes slightly out, internal tutting from relatives who don’t want to understand why your child is ‘acting up’, ‘let her stay up a bit, it’s Christmas’… being out of normal routine!!

Oh yes! Thank you for putting it better than I could. Christmas is a fucking nightmare with an autistic child. A tiny bit of hope for other parents, my DC is now 16 and starting to learn that Christmas is the same every year, and they have to do the Christmas routine

Narwhaleahoy · 19/12/2022 08:51

Every year, as our Christmas present, getting large, garishly framed photos of the DGC. We have already felt gloomily through the wrapping paper that this year’s delight is going to be a wall hung triptych.
yes, I know I’m a grumpy old so and so!

I'm not against displaying photos of my family members, but I also hate receiving these, or other gifts, that I'm obviously expected to display in my home.

WetLettuce2 · 19/12/2022 23:34

Christmas lights that are anything other than ‘warm and twinkling’ - so in the bin with your blue, white, multicoloured, etc.

Also lights that don’t match, so one theme in the house, and a different theme in the garden, then another across your garage, just no, it makes my eyes bleed.

WARM and TWINKLING and MATCHING or don’t bother.

JiminyGlick · 20/12/2022 00:12

My sister’s house is a bastion of tasteful style and decorum.

She became a grandma 2 years ago and last Christmas was given a massive framed collage of photos of the grandchild. She felt obliged to hang it, so has put it on the furthest outreach of the landing. She’s quite worried she’ll get another one. 😂

Benjispruce4 · 20/12/2022 00:13

Hahaha @WetLettuce2 I agree. The house opposite has a mixture of warm white, cool white and multicoloured and they are randomly strewn across the house. They probably are writing posts about my carefully placed warm white lights in my bushes.😀

QS90 · 20/12/2022 00:17

@JiminyGlick My Nan has a friend who has sent her loads of naff ornaments and framed pictures in the past. She puts them out every time the friend visits, then quickly boxes them back up as soon as she's safely out the door 😂

EspeciallyD · 20/12/2022 07:46

Ah no, you can keep your white lights, multicoloured all the way here.

StepIntoXmas · 20/12/2022 08:15

Really enjoyed this thread 😂🎅

I agree with lots and disagree with others but it's been really funny 😂

I'm so pleased you exist. I thought I was the only one. People look at me strange when I voice this. Imagine multi colour on the tree, white in the window, blue around the fireplace. It's not hard to get the same bloody colour.

Also Greg's selling blankets on pigs sandwiches. It's a bacon and sausage sandwich. That's all it is.

DesertIslandCondiment · 20/12/2022 08:39

What is wrong with 'Pigs in Blankets' unless you are vegetarian/vegan?

Cosycover · 20/12/2022 08:40

It annoys me when people don't hang lights correctly.

Like the people in my street who have lights hanging from the roof, the wire comes through their open upstairs window (they must be freezing) and hangs along only half of the roof.

What was the point?

SockGoddess · 20/12/2022 08:48

Omg the “cool” white/bluish white fairy lights - can’t believe I forgot about them! I hate them so much. It’s not just an aesthetic ick, they actually give me a headache if I’m in a room with them, though I’m not sure how that works. I don’t know why anyone chooses them over cosy “warm” white ones.

SockGoddess · 20/12/2022 08:54

I live in a block of flats with 16 balconies on the front, so no hope of a tasteful matching appearance. It’s a mad mix of subtle twinkly warm white, colourful lights, crazy flashing disco balcony, a gothy purple display and the hideous blue white ones.

KarenOLantern · 20/12/2022 09:09

Seaitsayit · 19/12/2022 22:58

People who ask 'are you all set?' hate that question.

Me too, but I can't put my finger on why..? Any ideas?

rbmilliner · 20/12/2022 09:30

Mine varies on a yearly basis. Not strictly an ick but clearly an Xmas niggle.

This year I'm not keen on the Christmas tree seller that saw my husband coming and sold him a 9 foot (yes 9 ft) christmas tree that he couldn't get rid of. Husband then returns home very proud of himself having only paid £30 for it I had to point out to him that we don't have a set of light long enough so an extra £50 spent on emergency lights to get the damn thing decorated.
Now the tree is taking us the vast majority of the front room still looking a bit sad because of lack of decorations.

Probably going against the vibe but I love the elf on the shelf but in fairness didn't start until this weekend and really don't feel the need to put it on social media.

EspeciallyD · 20/12/2022 09:44

I absolutely love the combination of ice white and blue fairy lights, one of my friends has them on her tree and it is absolutely stunning, I can't take my eyes off it when I visit. But we also love our multi-coloured lights - they are the modern type with blue in, I don't like the old fashioned ones with muted colours.

KittenCatt · 20/12/2022 09:54

Cliff Richard.

A written menu at your own home

Haha! We have been guilty of this.
One year DC got a chalkboard easel and my husband spent ages writing his Christmas menu on it Blush

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/12/2022 10:12

‘I’ve bought 15 presents for each DC and spent £££ on each of them, but I’m worried that one pile might look a bit bigger than the others.’

And ditto to FAYRE! Also seen on restaurants attached to Premier Inns - Brewer’s Fayre. There should be a law against it!

Giggorata · 20/12/2022 10:29

I think I might just have invented my very own Christmas ick.
My TV has about 8 post it notes around the edge, with the dates and times of the programmes we want to watch over Christmas. 🙂
(I almost never watch the actual TV, it's mainly on iPad)

pastypirate · 20/12/2022 10:36

Boring af fb posts with 'it's beginning to look a lot.....'you get the idea

"Tasteful" Christmas trees with the decorations all one colour (white, beige).

I think pretty much anything and everything a person could do at Christmas has been mentioned already, so statistically speaking most of us are probably guilty of a few.

I'm currently hiding my Christmas nails under my gloves, and biting my tongue to prevent me from asking anyone if they're ready for Christmas 👀
