'With all the trimmings'

I couldn't even type that without my teeth itching.

I'm sure they'll be plenty more...Smile

What's wrong with making your table look nice?

Nothing wrong with making the table look nice. It’s just describing it as a tablescape.

Betterthing · 19/12/2022 19:31

Just remembered another. TV programmes with that biggest oxymoron:
Best Christmas Music.

Elf on the bastard shelf.

Never done it but I've seen my friend get so stressed over finding 24 different elf scenarios. Just give them an advent calendar and bin the elf.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂brilliant!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/12/2022 19:41

Similar to a pp who said breathy versions of Christmas songs I'll add melancholy versions of Christmas songs. 🤦‍♀️

“It’s your Christmas too” said by FIL every year if I do anything other than sit in a chair. It’s not my Christmas or anyone else’s in particular, I’m an adult so it’s not a lot different to any other day apart from having to have in-laws around and it’s no hardship to occasionally do something like wash a plate or dish up. If I didn’t do anything he’d also be moaning about that.

I think that quite a nice thing for your FIL to say. My own FIL has never said that as his martyr wife makes seven different desserts whilst declaring loudly that she was up all night making them and is too exhausted to eat any dinner!

Sennelier1 · 19/12/2022 19:45

@Kanaloa unless you are rearing your own turkey 🤣

The fake photos of children watching Santa cross the skies

Love seeing the kids excited for Christmas, but these are too weird.

Userno3636273737273 · 19/12/2022 20:05

The use of the term 'crimbo'. Thankfully you don't see it used much anymore!

I was in Primark a few years ago and an elderly lady said she couldn’t imagine who bought the Christmas jumpers on display. They were spectacularly tacky.

They're supposed to be. That's the point of them.

Yeah but that's part of what I hate about them... why has it become semi-compulsory for everyone to wear something that everyone knows everyone hates? It's just pure consumerism for the sake of consumerism.

I get you. I had to Google tablescape.

Christmas anything in October.
Christmas anything in November.
Advent boxes.
Christmas Eve boxes.
Comparing how many bin bags of presents per child.
Christmas pyjamas.
Christmas bedlinen.
Christmas crockery sets.

Children with a functioning brain who still believe in Santa Claus and parents who think that's a desirable thing.

Any and all Christmas music forced upon me in places I have to be.

The rampant greed and consumerism sickens me. No genuine Christianity anywhere.

Then there's the hypocrisy and racism which forces one supposed faith tradition on all of us in every public space for two entire months when there would be a horrific backlash were it any other faith or cultural tradition.

Just for starters. 🤮😡😭🤣

Celebrating Christmas is "rAcIsT"....?

Stay mad. It aint going anywhere as this is the UK.

Yep don’t get this one. Christmas is racist haha now I’ve heard it all. It’s one thing moaning about Christmas gripes but this is too far

Adviceneeded200 · 19/12/2022 21:00

Picky tea

(Posh name for lazy, freezer food. Fine but call it what it is)

YES!!!

Ok, which smellies are we talking about now?
🤣

Moomoola · 19/12/2022 21:30

I love that every year Jamie Oliver shows us how to cook the best ever Xmas dinner. He’s been doing it for 15 odd years now - it must be amazingly spectacular by now!

DesertIslandCondiment · 19/12/2022 21:32

@Stravaig You need to chill the fuck out.

Yes, lol 😆 I think it was started by The Beatles in the 1960’s. It was Merry Chrimbo and a Gear New Year.
I thought it was crap but as a young teen I pretended it was great 😀. Peer pressure….

EarthSight · 19/12/2022 22:29

Timeforachangeisitnot · 19/12/2022 07:35

Crimbo. False jollity, ghastly word

@Timeforachangeisitnot Ghastly is one of my favourite words, so thank you for using it.

Logicalreasoning · 19/12/2022 22:48

My mum absolutely hates when we call the 23rd Christmas Eve Eve, we do it purposely to annoy her 😊
I hate when people put wrappers back in the choc box 🙁😫
my biggest Christmas ick is when people get jealous of what other people have brought for their kids. Everyone is entitled to do Christmas their own way without getting judged, despite wether it is published online or not.

Seaitsayit · 19/12/2022 22:58

People who ask 'are you all set?' hate that question.

My DH says that ALL the time. I hate it.

He is American though so I grit my teeth 🤷🏻‍♀️
