Are we having a Christmas fridge thread this year?

I know every year it gets slated by the ones who click on It to say how awful it is. But don't know if it would be genuinely insensitive?
I'm only asking because I finally have a proper huge fridge for the first time in years 😀

Yes, please! I quite enjoy it.

It's been many years since I left England to return to the US and I love seeing what sort of foods everyone is buying and what interesting food you're all making. I notice trends and the like.

I obviously have a large American fridge since I live there but I enjoy the Tetris stacking that everyone does in smaller spaces. I'm always impressed.

I need to clean/clear mine first 🤣🤣

Just name change and go for it Xmas Grin

We need before and after shots

MyBooksAndMyCats · 18/12/2022 20:46

I have a tiny fridge ☹️ I still want to be nosey though!
That cheese meme 😂

justcallmebozo · 18/12/2022 20:49

@Sgtmajormummy - "Last year I bought a female turkey"

It's never crossed by mind what the sex of the turkey is that i'm cooking.
Can you tell the difference once they're dead and plucked?

Decafflatteplease · 18/12/2022 20:51

I might name change for the fridge thread as ours needs a good clean and the seal is held together with tape!

We aren't going crazy this year though but do love a good "Christmas fridge" I read something on here the other day about personal pressure and it really struck a chord with me. Like all the things I try to do to make it perfect are just me putting pressure on myself, no one really cares if it doesn't turn out perfect. So on that note and also as we can't fucking afford it as all our money goes on heating we are having a much simpler Christmas.

Majority of presents from vinted or charity shop.

Food is coming on Thursday? Or weds maybe?! I need to check! That's the online order.

Meat hamper from local butchers.

Milk bread eggs and juice delivered by Dave our milkman.

We don't go food shopping if we can help it in-between Christmas and New year so the fridge looks really full but it has to last!

All non perishable fridge stuff eg veg and fruit goes in the cold porch.

Maybe we should have a porch thread too 😂

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 18/12/2022 21:02

My fridge needs a clear out and a clean before the deliveries arrive. It's totally full of veg at the moment which all needs to be eaten before we go veg shopping on Saturday. Actually, thats a good question - will there still be Xmas veg left to buy on Saturday!?!

Thankfully Ive not got much fresh stuff coming, but I do need to fit in a joint of lamb (instead of turkey), a ham, a cold pie, two dozen oysters and a LOT of cheese - I have a feeling it will be fridge jenga again this year!

With mine it's the door shelves that are held by clear strong tape and prayer .
I did look into replacing them but they're ££ and the fridge/freezer is 16 yo and still soldiering on .

@justcallmebozo
Neither did I. Seen one 🦃 seen ‘em all!

Footballhater · 18/12/2022 21:11

@AdventFridgeOfShame we share a fridge! Do you love it as much as I love mine? I’ve only had it a year or so and it is amazing. I’ve tidied and cleaned mine today but it’s still pretty empty, shopping tomorrow for more veg etc. Daughter in law arriving late tonight (with our son) and she is doing a bit of cooking so wanted it clean and empty of lingering horrible carrots etc. Cheese in other fridge (which is mostly drink).

Nice one. Glad we're going for it 😁. I love a fridge thread. It's so weirdly interesting to see all the different photos. My new fridge has drawers!! I can use one as a freezer or additional fridge drawer, depending on how much ice cream or alcohol fruit and veg I have in.

It's like looking in someone else's trolley at the checkout! Since last Christmas, I've invested in a set of plastic fridge trays, so I'm a bit better organised this year.

I love the fridge.
The freezer is OK.
The freezer is crap for storing pizza. Luckily we have another small freezer.
The fridge bit is fecking amazing.

It was a lot cheaper that some similar models. It is better than the side by side american style one we had before.

I like not having plumbed in water as we live in one of the hardest water areas and the last fridge freezer suffered. We now have a water filter thingy on the counter and just bung a bottle in the fridge. I miss not having an ice-maker but only a little bit.

Swings and round-a-bouts, on the whole I am very happy with it.

Can someone link to an old thread? I must have missed these....

Fridges jam packed with trifles, sausage rolls, desserts and alcohol!!! Enjoy 🙂

At Christmas the alcohol here stays outside, it's cold enough and takes up no space in the fridge.

I too have to clean the fridge (and check the bottles to see what is entirely out of dste). First delivery is Tuesday. And another on Thursday.

foxlover47 · 18/12/2022 22:48

I love this thread and I love that last years thread has been linked too , thank you I can't sleep so enjoying the read :)

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 18/12/2022 23:08

Place Marking!! 🎄🎄🎄

Love these threads.

I had to give more than one self-righteous, virtue signalling, misery-maker poster a piece of my mind on the 2020 thread IIRC. Cannot stand that! You know what the thread is about so if it’s going to offend your sensibilities so very badly, scroll on past fgs.

No one here is under any obligation to justify their (really quite modest, in the grand scheme of things) feasting provisions.

Hopefully there’ll be no such nonsense on this year’s thread!

For the record my fridge is very small indeed.

Sgtmajormummy · 18/12/2022 23:10

I tried to find my Christmas fridge photos on last year’s thread. It turns out I was remembering TWO years ago. Covid has certainly made time contract…

IncessantNameChanger · 18/12/2022 23:18

I don't think mine will be rammed this year. It's very sad and empty now. I will post a before pic tomorrow. Half used jars. Onions. Unloved wine from last year that lives all year in the fridge and half a takeaway pot of manky beans.

We are drinking our very old alcohol this year. Only buying ginger wine.

Ah we must have different models. Mine has water with a filter, we are also in a hard water area but it is coping so far. And the ice maker is in the freezer section and is great. But I agree for large items it’s not great. I also have a smaller but deep freezer above our utility/drinks fridge .

How does that work? Does it have separate temperature controls? How does it know to freeze ice cream but just chill salad? I have fridge freezer envy as mine is cheap and cheerful and has to be tiny, so it fits in our shoebox kitchen.

Oblomov22 · 19/12/2022 02:58

I posted a picture on the Dec 20 thread. But not on the Dec 21 thread, although I posted, no picture.

I will do so this year, for sure. (Best get cleaning!).

FlamingJingleBells · 19/12/2022 03:14

Plans have changed this Christmas as of yesterday. Dh has got the flu so now we're staying home for Christmas which means cleaning the fridge first before filling it. I'm just buying easy fridge items that can be eaten cold or shoved in the oven. Will check thread for & post pictures later after I've cleaned the fridge so I don't embarrass myself.

mickandrorty · 19/12/2022 06:54

oh yes, not sure what I'm looking forward to more the pictures or the comments about what awful people we are filling our fridges and celebrating when (insert some reason that does not affect their lives in the slightest) is happening!
