Are we having a Christmas fridge thread this year?

I know every year it gets slated by the ones who click on It to say how awful it is. But don't know if it would be genuinely insensitive?
I'm only asking because I finally have a proper huge fridge for the first time in years 😀

Yes I've been hoping someone would be brave enough to start one Grin.

I've done quite a bit of our shopping today so the fridge is 75% full, will be stuffed to the rafters after I do the final shop on Friday.

PS don't mentioned putting food in the food bank trolley I got bollocked for that last year too...

Why, what did you put in?!

MisgenderedPaul · 18/12/2022 19:47

Nice one. Glad we're going for it 😁. I love a fridge thread. It's so weirdly interesting to see all the different photos. My new fridge has drawers!! I can use one as a freezer or additional fridge drawer, depending on how much ice cream or alcohol fruit and veg I have in.

I was wondering today if there was going to be a fridge thread. Have just defrosted freezer and thrown all the mouldy veg in the veg drawer in prep for Friday shop.

TheMightyOak · 18/12/2022 19:56

Love love love the Christmas fridge threads and the miseries who pop up and tell us we should all be ashamed of ourselves.

BlackForestCake · 18/12/2022 19:56

Erm, can you clean a fridge while it's still on?

Yes, of course you can.

Do people really decant stuff into a second fridge? Nothing is going to go off by sitting on the counter for five minutes while you wipe down a shelf.

Sallyh87 · 18/12/2022 20:00

Yes, count me in! Last year I was heavily criticised by Mumsneters for having bananas in the fridge. I’ve learned my lesson though 😅

Do I have to do a photograph or can I just describe?

Haha. Just seen this. You have to post photos of your christmas shop fridge in all its glory. Whether it's full of vitamins and juice, or trifles or nobody knows quite what! It's the rules.

God. I certainly hope so. Is my favourite thread. EVER. Why would we not?

Oblomov22 · 18/12/2022 20:04

What with the price of lurpack butter this year!

Oblomov22 · 18/12/2022 20:05

Don't start yet. Please, don't start yet!

Igletpiglet · 18/12/2022 20:14

a bit scared to take part in this, as it will distract me from actual prepping. But fuck it, I can be happy someone else is organised.

FTB2022 · 18/12/2022 20:14

This is my first MN Christmas and I LOVE the sound of this!! Why do people usually object?!

I'm also looking forward to swooning over poster's actual fridges. One of my requirements for next house is space for an obnoxiously large fridge/freezer...

Buildingthefuture · 18/12/2022 20:15

There is a Christmas Fridge thread?? I am obviously shit at MN and did not know this! I want to join! What are the rules??? Will we all go to hell for posting pictures of a fridge that isn’t empty/vegan/recycled???

Batshitcrazy007 · 18/12/2022 20:15

Ooh joining as I’m nosey 😂

Sgtmajormummy · 18/12/2022 20:17

My fridge is looking pretty shameful
BUT
I made mincemeat for my mince pies today (glass container with turquoise lid) and there’s Carnation Caramel and olives.
I’ll get most stuff on Tuesday and I still have to order the roast. With only 3 of us I think it’ll be a Beef Wellington.
Last year I bought a female turkey from the Slovenian butcher in town. That raised a few hackles…

@FTB2022 because people think people are showing off at what they have, because people struggle at Christmas time and have no money ect people will react negatively to a well stocked Christmas fridge.

MisgenderedPaul · 18/12/2022 20:18

Generally what happens is we all drool over the delicious ones. Look enviously at the ultra prepared and organised ones. Gasp at the frights, ask questions about the unusual and have a really nice, interesting and enjoyable thread. And Then..... well, you will soon see.....

@FTB2022 @Buildingthefuture you've summed up my thoughts to the T.
I'm equally excited and scared.
Didn't know such a thread existed. I've got a well stocked drinks cabinet stuffed with champagne right next to the fridge so I'll probably get a telling off for that.

I reckon I'll be ready Thursday to contribute.

Will a new thread be started or will it be here?

I need answers!

Buildingthefuture · 18/12/2022 20:26

@Sgtmajormummy you MADE mincemeat? You are my actual Christmas hero! I once made mince pies…..they were so utterly shite my DH made me promise never to make them again Smile

GreenLunchBox · 18/12/2022 20:27

Gosh, I remember last year's thread like it was yesterday

NotToBeOrToBe · 18/12/2022 20:29

Yayy love a fridge thread.

Haha, you sound like my teen DS 😂

Not done the big shop but have started on the cheese selection.
Have had to put up a sign to ward off dh.

Sgtmajormummy · 18/12/2022 20:42

@Buildingthefuture
No mincemeat here unless I import it, so I use a Nigella recipe with grated apple and butter instead of suet. The result is close enough for what I need.

maddiemookins16mum · 18/12/2022 20:43

I need to clean/clear mine first 🤣🤣
