Is your tree up?

OP posts:
Pinkglittery · 25/11/2022 05:28

Ours is up. It's been a really tough year and I'm really looking forward to having a lovely Christmas. I've bought all the presents. Smallest dc is nearly two so while he doesn't understand what's happening, the older dc are really excited about setting up his toy kitchen etc and starting to do all the Santa stuff with him. We only have a tree and it's all very understated but it makes me feel cosy and happy.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 25/11/2022 05:35

Yes! We got bored last Sunday and put one of them up. Got the other 2 to do this weekend. Then I can just enjoy all the festivities in December.

emptythelitterbox · 25/11/2022 05:37

Yes, it fake.

pilates · 25/11/2022 05:59

No first weekend in December

MintJulia · 25/11/2022 06:02

DS breaks up from school on Dec 9th. Putting the tree up is the first thing we do together.

FearofQueefing · 25/11/2022 07:51

Nope. Ours always goes up the first weekend in Dec.

Cosycover · 25/11/2022 08:09

I'm doing mine this weekend as I have no time next week and I like it up for the 1st.

Autumnalleavestime · 25/11/2022 08:16

No, far too early. But I do have the fire place wreaths out.

ShaunaTheSheep · 25/11/2022 08:24

Advent candle bridges will go out on Sunday, and I'll slowly add room decorations and a wreath on the door as and when.

Tree will go up weekend of 10th December. It won't be fully decorated until all the DC are home for the holidays and have hung their own special baubles.

ThanksMateThanksMate · 25/11/2022 08:35

Yes, as of last night.

This is the first year I've ever come out the blocks before December and I don't regret it!!

Put it up if you want to.

For everybody going: "NO!! + sarcastic elaboration", chill the fuck out.

TreacsPotNoodle · 25/11/2022 08:48

Yes

Normally I'd wait until December but I'm feeling really festive this year and ds loves the tree being up!

Hbh17 · 25/11/2022 08:56

Well, if you have a tree - which is not compulsory, by the way - it should go up on Christmas Eve. But if people really do put up their trees in November, are they not completely dead by Christmas?

OldTinHat · 25/11/2022 09:09

No tree or decorations for me this year. Can't be arsed as I'll be on my own.

Um what, technically it should go up on advent, which is the 4th Sunday before Xmas and is this year the 27th November.

MajorCarolDanvers · 25/11/2022 09:12

Not till at least 10th December.

It's still only November

Yes, I’ve started putting it up earlier over the last couple of years because I used to leave it up until January, but toddler DD’s birthday is NYE and that’s a shite day to have a birthday as a kid, close to Christmas, on a day when everyone wants to go our drinking so a kids party isnt well planned.. so I take the tree down so her birthday can feel less connected to Christmas time. My mums birthday is the day before and she also hates it.

So our tree goes up early so it can feel Christmassy in our house for a decent amount of time 😂

My birthday is NYE and ever since I was a child the tree has stayed up for my birthday, I love it and it feels odd if I take the tree down before my birthday.

Ragingoverlife · 25/11/2022 09:20

Yes, but only because I'm due a baby in December and my 12 year old asked to put it up for the first time ever x I'm a 1st of December closest weekend kind of girl normally.

Jason118 · 25/11/2022 09:27

Yes, up in the attic, where it will stay until mid December.Grin

mam0918 · 25/11/2022 09:59

Ours will go up on Sunday for the start of Advent (and down on the 7th after epiphany) so tomorrow will be spent tidying and sorting the space.

I don't understand putting it up so late, its just a bit sad to not enjoy it for the full time. My dad use to moan that it should go up on xmas eve (but was always out numbered) and he would start taking it down on xmas evening while ranting and raving about xmas being done now... I think he was just a bloody misery guts though (he refuses to even put one up now).

My DS is a new year baby too, we leave the tree up too.

I do agree with PP though that as a child its a sucky time for a party (dark, cold, loads of things closed, all your friends have plans, school off so parties are hard to organise) but I think the tree adds a bit more happiness, they are after all suppose to bring joy.

They are suppose to go up on Advent and I dont know ANYONE that uses a real tree.

Not only do most people not like unnessacerily killing trees but bugs and needles everywhere... no thank you plus we cant afford to be buying a new tree every year, its so uneconomical and bad for the enviroment.

hotelpink · 25/11/2022 10:08

We usually do it at the start of December but I need help with it this year so we are going to sort it this weekend will eldest DC is able to assist. I am more then ready for it this year though.

caringcarer · 25/11/2022 10:12

I carry on the tradition in our family of putting up our tree on December 18th as that was my Mum and Dad's wedding anniversary. Mum and Dad both dead now but the tradition lives on.

TrashyPanda · 25/11/2022 10:16

No

because it’s November.

my rule of thumb is that you shouldn’t have decorations up for so long that you have to dust them. Why give yourself extra work?

Novemberhater · 25/11/2022 10:20

No. Mine's happily growing in its pot in the garden. I'll bring it in on 23rd December and put it back out a week later so the heat doesn't upset it.

No plastic involved and I paid £39 for it three years ago, so good value for money.

I saw cut trees already shedding needles outside Aldi today. They'll be bare by Christmas. What a waste of money.
