I thought last year they released the New Year slots at the same time as Xmas ones. That's not so this year, but they HAVE released the previous week. I get orders on a Saturday & with Delivery Saver I can do it 4 weeks ahead - but this morning I put in an order for 17th December which is 4-&-a-bit weeks ahead.

So check around & see what other orders you might want to put in.

Well that was awful. Much worse than previous years. I kept getting errors when selecting slots then errors when going through check out. I'm actually sweating now.

I think it's area dependent.

Just had to keep pressing the buttons.

(Booked my normal slot, FWIW)

I started at 52247. Took an hour to get through. Was impressed with the position no and estimated time. Thought finally they are getting it together. Got through to the site and it all went to shit. Kept getting an error trying to book a slot. Once I managed that I kept getting errors trying to search or add to basket. Then I couldn’t get through the checkout. Took ages to finally get the order confirmed but atleast it’s done.

But will there be anything left? I was logged on and waiting at 545 so very annoying to be kicked out and having to start again. Unlikely to get what I want either now 😭

I am amazed at this; I don't think the same pressure for slots exists here in Ireland, though I don't really do online grocery shopping bar in rare situations for exactly this reason:

The shopper would have ordered ‘fresh bunch of mint’. If it wasn’t in stock, my logic would tell me to give them the pot of fresh mint, but the computer would suggest a tub of ‘dried mint’. Or if they picked ‘Orange marmalade 500g’ and it wasn’t in stock, I’d have chosen them ‘Orange Marmalade 300g’ but the machine would say ‘Grapefruit marmalade 500g’.

Sometimes sense prevails but the odd substitutions and the missing items drive me mad. I always end up having to do a top up shop & spend more.

If you're on an off peak delivery saver plan does that still make you eligible for the Christmas slots today or does it mean you need to wait until 22 November?

Could you not just go to the shop? Christmas is well over a month away so plenty of time to pick up what you actually want.
