The 2022 Poncetastic Christmas Thread

Welcome to the 2022 Poncetastic thread. With a nod to Fellatio (wherever she may be) at the stroke of midnight, let the poncing commence.

"OK, first of all, I know it's still September by we need to start this thread now because as you all know, having a truly Poncetastic Christmas involves precision planning, strategy, bravery, heroics, and frequently martyrdom.

So, if you, like me, actually want to make the next twelve weeks of your life a misery by hand-crafting your cards, finding a huge bucket for Nigella's turkey in brine, pickling pears, shrivelling oranges in a low oven for those rustic au naturel decorations, dragging half a holly bush back from the woods, and just generally being a smug annoying jobs worth ponce, join me on this thread.

Feel free to post photos of previous tree-trimming, cake icing or table centrepiece triumphs, discuss this year's bauble colour themes, debate the merits of Delia versus Gordon, road-test a selection of canapés and cocktails, (all in the line of duty) and link to lovely inspirational photos/craft ideas for a truly Poncetastic Christmas.

Warning: If your idea of a good Christmas involves Pizza, ITV, gravy granules or anything with 'Aunt Bessie’s' on the packet, this is not the thread for you".

Lots of very creative people on here, have really enjoyed reading the thread. Love the mandala tree, what a great idea.

For various reasons, nothing creative done by me this year, but have attached photos of cupcakes I’ve made previously. I’m going to aim to get creative for next Christmas!

I’m so ill 😞😞 DH and I have both got an awful lurgy so there will be no more poncing this year, I’m afraid. Just going to curl up under a blanket and go to sleep.

I am on day 3 of antibiotics and sucking lemon slices seems to help with the foul taste in my mouth.

The sunroom is coming together. I bought plain Kraft paper crackers this year and ponced them up with fabric from my stash.

Tree up. Better late than never.

I've been feeling like I was coming down with a cold, on and off, for a few days. So far, paracetamol seems to be keeping whatever it is at bay.

I gave up on my idea of making napkin rings, for the moment, and picked up 4 wooden stars in Primark for the princely sum of £2! I'm on the hunt for serving dishes for the sauces to go in, but think I've left it a little late now & hadn't really put any more thought into setting the table 🤷‍♀️.

I have just had a random thought - I think it was on last years Poncetastic thread, someone made miniatures or similar, and linked a website with tubes of 'stuff' I can't remember the name of, for decorating them. I'm hoping one of you might have a clue what I'm on about & point me in the right direction 🤔 & that I'm not totally mis-remembering which is entirely possible

Sun room finished. The theme this year is peace cranes.
I think I folded 100 paper birds and then ponced up the crackers.
Place markers have stamped origami cranes on as do all the parcels.
The willow lantern is about 4 foot across.
out having coffee with DH having picked up the M&S order.

I should add that I have no small children to help/ hinder me. All mine are adults and I am retired so have time to mega ponce!

Ive just made gingerbread, rocky road and Biscoff millionaire shortbread.

I’ve yet to ice cake and I’m hoping to get parsnip roulades done this evening too but they can be done in the morning if I wilt.

like Trumpton my kids are big so have taken their grandmother out or gone out out with friends. Nobody is hanging off my leg. Although the dog is looking sad so we are about to have a walk round block

Made this little red Robin fella with some mistletoe as a last minute gift today. My youngest daughter made some cookies and decorated them for a family visit. Excited!

The mulled wine is infusing on the hob while we warm up the oven for our gingerbread house.

I've just re-found the deer and tree, and lovely note, that were included with the cutters by a wonderful MN-er 😊.

Looking forward to filling up on sweets, wine, offcuts of gingerbread, and eventually frozen pizzas, tonight 😋

I've decorated my dad's Christmas cake today, too, and dd2 seems to have taken over decorating ours with every single cake decoration I own so that'll be fun to unpick to eat it 🤣

That cheered me up (I’m still feeling very ill, horrible sore throat and my head hurts horrifically every time I cough...feeling very sorry for myself right now 😞!), I’m excited to see the decorated house(s).

Nothing much is happening here...Have a fridge full of food and we’re not in the mood for any of it, just having plain foods really, and soup for dinner.

i need to get some mistletoe planted. My favourite Christmas plant/motif. Lovely cake too. I wish people would eat a proper marzipanned iced cake here. I do the cake but not the decorating (crystallised fruit here by long tradition)
Niobe sits at the top of the stairs and usually wears various hats. I’ve given her an ivy wreath for Christmas. She’s a miserable old boot though.

@TangledWebofMincemeatDeception ah, I had an inkling but didn't want to get it wrong 🤣

We've had a few construction issues this year 🤦‍♀️ one of the ends almost got dropped & has cracks in it, and one of the roof pieces is sporting an EPIC crack straight down the centre too! I also think we've used the roof pieces as sides, and sides for the roof.

Still, we're all stuffed on pizza, offcuts and now sweets. The washing up pile is rather large though & our Christmas cake has ended up with a dent in it. Oh, and home made mulled wine is a winner 🍷

The washing up's done, mixer bowl is soaking, and I have my feet up with a brew before bed ready for the market for veg in the morning & prep for Christmas dinner tomorrow.

I think tomorrow is my favourite day of the year. Market early doors for the veg and cheese, knowing that everything but prepping dinner is done. Home for a quick tidy round, prep done fairly early, and chill for the rest of the day. I'll also light my favourite candle - a not very poncy Yankee Snowflake Cookie that I've been saving because it's discontinued.

Thanks Tangled They were in the Blue Cross charity shop window last year I think. The shop was shut but I was desperate so sent my mum in first thing next morning.
