We were supposed to be at my mums tomorrow, but I have Covid (asymptomatic) so we can't go...inspire me with what you are having for your tea please Xmas Smile

I have an 8 and a 10 year old, not overly fussy, and will have time to cook now we aren't going anywhere!

@RoyalFamilyFan

We are having curry and trifle. Life is too short to make a fancy meal the night before Christmas day.
That still sounds like a lot of work though, unless you bought them both ready made.
Trudee · 23/12/2021 19:08

We always cook our gammon on Christmas eve so have some of that with chippy chips 😋

CiderWithLizzie · 23/12/2021 19:10

Nigella’s gammon, dauphinoise potatoes and red cabbage 😋 - it’s our traditional Christmas Eve supper.

EmmaWoodhousestreehouse · 23/12/2021 19:13

@jocktamsonsbairn

A chateaubriand and chips!! We normally treat ourselves to T bone steaks but mum treated us to chateaubriands this year! Really looking forward to it!
Sounds wonderful. We’re having a buffet tea. Kids are grown up so just me and husband. Can’t wait.

TatianaBis · 23/12/2021 19:36

Oh I see northern tea. Was going to say cucumber and egg mayo sandwiches, Speculaas and Christmas cake.

KaycePollard · 23/12/2021 19:37

For tea what about scones, followed by mince pies?

TatianaBis · 23/12/2021 19:40

We’ve had game casserole with chestnuts for a couple of days running, Christmas Eve supper is usually quite light given the next day’s feasting. Usually smoked salmon, smoked haddock mousse, quails’ eggs and lumpfish caviar here. Gammon is for Boxing Day.

Therealjudgejudy · 23/12/2021 19:44

Was going to be take away fish and chips but partner said he's going to cook his amazing lasagne! I'm stoked..Xmas Grin

Chunkymenrock · 23/12/2021 19:45

No tea on Christmas eve but for dinner, a nice light fish pie.

pradaville · 23/12/2021 20:01

We usually have a takeaway Christmas Eve, often Chinese from a local restaurant which is more expensive that a usual takeaway but the food tastes amazing.

Tomorrow though we are going to a relative and having lasagne for dinner.

ImInStealthMode · 23/12/2021 20:03

DP is Scandinavian so pickled herring 😫😫😫

ToastedEnglishMuffin · 23/12/2021 20:17

@hohohosbeforebros

What exactly are these 'picky bits' people keep mentioning? Because it sounds like something people shouldn't do with acne Confused
Picky bits sound like picking scabs 🤮
1967buglet · 23/12/2021 20:27

Taco bar. Chicken soft shell tacos and hard shell ground beef tacos with a selection of pico de gallo, guacamole, salsa, olives, shredded cheese.

Negro modelo beer

Sopapillas with ice cream for pudding.

(Yes I grew up in the American southwest).

AD80 · 23/12/2021 20:36

Something quick usually like pizza here. Usually haven't got the time to cook much as visit family etc, last minute stuff. Busy busy.

We've just come out of isolation and tomorrow is the first day we are all allowed out (Dd tested positive 10 days after Dp did first) so we are going to McDonald's and looking at Christmas lights! Today's my first day out of isolation. I need to get out 😅

tinkywinkyshandbag · 23/12/2021 20:39

Ham (boiled then roasted with mustard, sugar etc), with garlic bread. potato salad, salad and some nibbly bits from M&S. If I couldn't be bothered to cook I'd go for something like pitta breads, halloumi and houmous, or pasta with pesto and halloumi. Or maybe the ham but with wedges and peas.

Tillsforthrills · 23/12/2021 20:58

Tapas

Figmentofimagination · 23/12/2021 21:03

@desperatehousewife21

Mixture of party food: duck spring rolls, oriental snack mix with dip, prawn crackers, pigs in blankets, cheese pizza
We're doing similar. Bought packs of party food. Will cook half tomorrow and half on NYE. We've got: Duck spring rolls Mini cheese pizzas Mini chicken bakes Mini burgers Mini pies Mini beef wellingtons Potato waffles (for DS who won't eat some of it)

Will serve them with different dips and everything will be on my pretty serving plates that I don't get to use often.

We've done this for a few years now. Previous years we've also had mini hot dogs, lamb in mini pittas, a Chinese selection (pinwheels, lollipops, spring rolls), pork belly bites.

DevonTF · 23/12/2021 21:24

Mine is a bit weird - started as a plan to do Tapas - now gone a bit Greek and Japanese too ! (my fault - asked what one dish everyone would want ...) I love Christmas Eve - cant wait

Spinach and Ricotta twist
Baked Cheese
Salt and pepper Chicken Wings
Stuffed Potato Skins
Gyoza - prawn and chicken

Mezze - Vine Leaves / Artichoke / stuffed peppers / Octopus
Greek Salad
Fresh Bread

ginslinger · 23/12/2021 21:27

veggie chilli, rice and salad

AnnieAreYouOkHun · 23/12/2021 21:28

We're having cheese and crackers with a bit of party food.

Autobahn · 23/12/2021 21:35

@Sunbird24

We’re getting a takeaway as it’s a family birthday - we have for several years now as it saves on cooking and washing up!
Ah nice, we have a Christmas Day birthday here Smile

Thanks for the ideas everyone, we are tempted by the M&S party food Xmas Smile

Long standing family tradition from DH of sausages on baguettes for lunch on the 24th.

PILs are coming for supper and we're having parsnip soup followed by salmon and salad
