I haven’t seen a thread yet and it’s becoming somewhat of a tradition to be nosey and look in MNetters Xmas fridges.

Here’s mine, booze is in the garage!

I will state again that this thread is a bit of fun and has been running for years on MN without the judgement.

I have a full fridge this year, in part, because I did the ONS covid study and got £25 a month in vouchers for giving antibody samples. I work as a carer on NMW and have worked my arse off this last 18 months. Despite not being well off on Tuesday I donated a big bag of food and I regularly pop items in the donation box when doing my shopping as well as volunteering my time with a local organisation.

So if I want to show my fridge and look in other peoples I will do without feeling shame. Thank you very much.

I assume those trying to shame me are also going on to Facebook and berating people for having days out to see Santa. Or shaming peoples nice homes on instagram?

Most of us understand that and it’s not like you’re saying full fridges only’ is it.

The people who are being judgemental probably have a stacked fridge themselves and have a pile of presents awaiting their children. 🤨

goodness me.

InvincibleInvisibility · 23/12/2021 07:30

Here's my franco-British fridge, although some fresh food still to get. At Christmas we do a mix of the 2 traditions.

@Teachocsbook I sincerely hope you and your dc have a lovely Christmas together.

Moaningturtle · 23/12/2021 07:37

I’d love to know what French food traditions you incorporate?! @InvincibleInvisibility

I hope all the posters struggling find some joy this Christmas. I've had my share of shitty ones too. Dh desperately ill in hospital discharged Christmas eve, twice companies owing us money have gone bankrupt 2 weeks before Christmas, not having a pot to piss in. Bizarrely I always look back on those Christmas's as good ones despite the circumstances.

And if we didn't talk about and show photos of things some posters have that some might not, we would never discuss anything on this board. It's like those threads where someone posts 'my mother is driving me insane' and someone posts 'my mother is dead, be grateful yours is still alive'.

It's a fun thread. I know the pressure Christmas brings, my dh currently has covid. We have ponies and chickens and if I test positive I am going to have to beg, plead and grovel for someone to do them until I am allowed back out so my Christmas fridge is full but it doesn't mean I don't have worries. Also had to cancel dm for Christmas day and new years day so yeah, it's a bit shit here too.

@alphabetsoup1980

What an insensitive thread.... 'Look at all the food and wine I have!!!' Given the current climate and the millions depending on food banks, this is truly horrid...

After a shit few years of living on next to no money this thread cheers me up. It's a bit of festive lightheartedness and Jesus, I think we could all do with some of that right now!

InvincibleInvisibility · 23/12/2021 08:28

We do French traditions the evening of 24th. As it's quite sea-food based and me and DSes aren't keen, we do it as a sit down buffet so everyone can have what they like.

The French bits include shrimps, scallops, foie gras, oysters, caviar, salmon and lots of canapes. The pudding is an ice cream yule log.

The 25th lunchtime is more British, with a salmon or foie gras starter, a roast (but with guinea fowl instead of turkey) and Christmas pudding.

Fridgenomynous · 23/12/2021 08:29

Some people have a fridge full, some people don’t but bare in mind some of these extremely full fridges may be feeding family members that sadly don’t have the ability to do it for themselves this year for whatever reason.Just because someone’s fridge is full this Christmas it doesn’t mean it always has been or that person hasn’t ever fallen on hard times.

This in spades.

Tillsforthrills · 23/12/2021 09:07

My family and I help out at charities and donate at this time of year, because we’re aware so many are less fortunate and we do what we can.

However, threads like this shouldn’t be vilified it’s a bit of fun and seriously everyone needs a laugh and to be in good spirits.

The wider context of this is you shouldn’t enjoy anything because others don’t have it and that’s not right either.

Tillsforthrills · 23/12/2021 09:08

@InvincibleInvisibility
That sounds incredible!

Baconking · 23/12/2021 09:22

@LH1987

I love this thread every year. It’s just me, DH and DD (18 months) this year at Christmas. DD will not eat a roast dinner so I plan to do her fish fingers for dinner and DH and I will have a huge cheese and meat platter when she goes to sleep.
Bananas in the fridge Shock

My shopping came last night. We’ve already started on the clementines and the gammon is now in the slow cooker in the apple juice with cinnamon sticks floating around it.
