I haven’t seen a thread yet and it’s becoming somewhat of a tradition to be nosey and look in MNetters Xmas fridges.

Here’s mine, booze is in the garage!

I’m guessing you’re making a lemon pudding, or planning on lots of gin and tonics Grin[/quote]
They’re for the Gordon Ramsay turkey recipe- DHs responsibility! I have no idea where those lemons will be going 🙈 🍋

I’m sure some will end up in drinks 🍹

@Teachocsbook
So sorry you're in this predicament. I hope your brother and the vouchers comes through. I know it must be hard to stomach when others have so much and It is hard to make anything special if it's just seems the same, but I hope you get enough to make it just a bit more magical for you and the kids. Big love 💐

I assume you mean some sort of voucher for school meals over the holidays?

If they don't - please get in touch with the school and explain your circumstances. Most schools either have or can point you in the direction of a contingency plan for families who are struggling, and would hate to think of you going without.

Don't be too proud to ask for help ❤️️

Thanks. Don't get me wrong I have had years where we have had food and drink all over. Huge piles of presents. Gifts for everyone , food wasted and thrown out .

I had time off work in the summer unpaid due to stress and I have never really got back on my feet. Out of work now and they have applied the benefit cap to me. I have had to borrow the money to pay the rent this month 3 weeks late. My cars mot expires tomorrow so it's going off the road. I have put bits on credit cards which have been stopped as I haven't paid them. I am claiming everything I I entitled to . Had a job interview yesterday and waiting to hear back from that . Extremely tough. Their present piles will be teeny. Probably half a dozen items each if that . I have Said with the new variant alot of the elves have been isolating and less workers means santa can't make or load the sleigh with as much as normal so everyone is going to get alot less this year.

Feel I have failed them all really , I should have been better with money earlier in the year

Teachocsbook · 23/12/2021 00:06

Yes in the school holidays anyone who normally gets free school meals gets an email with q code to redeem for a voucher which you can use in supermarkets to buy groceries. Haven't received ours yet. No parents from our school have..I have emailed the school and had an automated reply saying due to poxy cvoid they may not respond to emails now until 6 Jan when school returns.. scandalous quite frankly

You haven't failed anyone. They've got presents...put Christmas music on and blast it out and they'll remember the fun. Do call the school about the vouchers...you should be entitled to a food parcel from the food bank...do you need help finding somewhere local? I'm happy to help you find somewhere near you.x

I don't understand why people keep potatoes in the fridge.

JingsMahBucket · 23/12/2021 00:28

@Phobiaphobic I’d be worried about the potatoes potentially freezing or sugaring due to the cold but maybe some fridges aren’t as cold as mine.

I've put my turkey in the fridge as it was fresh today. How do I make sure the bloody fridge doesn't freeze it?

shakingmytinselatyule · 23/12/2021 00:58

I have the fridge set at 4degrees. Cold but wouldn't freeze anything. Potatoes stay in there as I find they go soft and sprout In the cupboard. Freezer is about -18 I think, so quite a difference.

I won’t be posting a pic of mine as it is total chaos! Our fridge infuriates me and there’s only the two of us. Weirdly, my cupboards are all things of beauty, all lined up, labelled glass jars full of nuts, lentils, pasta etc. Pure thing of beauty. My fridge and freezer is a jumbled mess - no matter what I try I cannot keep order or sort out a good space for everything. I bought fridge organiser baskets and even they didn’t help. Would love tips for how people arrange their fridges/ stay organised!

alphabetsoup1980 · 23/12/2021 02:14

What an insensitive thread.... 'Look at all the food and wine I have!!!' Given the current climate and the millions depending on food banks, this is truly horrid...

Teachocsbook · 23/12/2021 02:39

Very kind offer but not one I would accept . I will get us some goodies once I am able. Iceland and a couple of m and s treats ...mix it up a bit haha

CantThinkOfaUserNameAgain · 23/12/2021 02:43

All the milk jugs with green tops, HP sauces and and double creams make me miss the UK!

We are in Europe and for obvious reasons have not been able to travel over much during the last 2 years. My parents have the same milk and seeing them in so many photos makes me think of them and smile.

Will post my photo later as am doing the big shop later.

Can’t sleep tonight and am wishing we had 24 hour supermarkets like the UK so I could make good use of the night :)

Staryflight445 · 23/12/2021 03:26

@Teachocsbook I’m so sorry, you haven’t failed anybody so please don’t blame yourself. I hope you get good news about your job interview and your brother can help you.

Staryflight445 · 23/12/2021 03:29

@alphabetsoup1980 I don’t think it’s insensitive at all, the title of the thread makes it very clear what the post entails.
Some people have a fridge full, some people don’t but bare in mind some of these extremely full fridges may be feeding family members that sadly don’t have the ability to do it for themselves this year for whatever reason.

Just because someone’s fridge is full this Christmas it doesn’t mean it always has been or that person hasn’t ever fallen on hard times.
Some people on this thread might be extremely proud of what they’ve managed to get in their fridge for Christmas this year, no one knows the battles they’ve faced this year.

Stop assuming and being so judgemental.

So what if the title makes it clear? Hmm Doesn't stop people from feeling bad about themselves and what they might face this Christmas.

It's irrelevant that some people showing off their fridges (!) might have also experienced hardship.

The's no need for anyone to assume...the tacky truth of it is there for all to see! This sort of thing is best kept to private chat groups.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 23/12/2021 05:01

So what if the title makes it clear? hmm Doesn't stop people from feeling bad about themselves and what they might face this Christmas.

People positing what’s in their fridges won’t stop them feeling bad about their circumstances!!!

People in here with full fridges may have suffered financial hardship and put everything they’ve got into their Christmas!!!!

It’s not for you or anyone to tell others how they live their lives!!!

I’m absolutely sick to the back teeth that people judge others for others in less unfortunate circumstances and try and make them feel guilty for whatever reason because others are in less fortunate circumstances, THERE will always be others who are less fortunate FACT!!!

My fridge and freezer will be full this year and there is a high possibility I won’t be seeing my family and friends as I am stuck in a hospital bed..... where I can’t have visitors due to covid.... will I be judging my friends and family for being in a fortune position where they can eat and be Merry at my expense, absolutely not, il be looking forward to seeing my children opening their presents via FaceTime and celebrating with my family through FaceTime.

The bed next to me will be this beautiful person’s last Christmas, they are dying, do you think they are complaining they have an empty fridge!!!!

Should my best friend complain that her child who has a rare form of cancer won’t be able to celebrate with her child as they’ve tested positive to covid and won’t be seeing their child over Christmas now!!!!

Everyone’s circumstances are difference so those taking the judgement stance, just simply F off!!!

The simple fact is you have no idea of people’s backgrounds, if people want to show their fridges off or whatever then that’s up to them, they don’t need some idiot to come around and try and make them feel bad simply because they’ve managed to have food in their fridge!!!!

There is always someone in worse circumstances than yourselves but let’s not have a moral judgement competition because simply you have no idea what is going on in people’s lives.

Moaningturtle · 23/12/2021 06:41

I’m intrigued that at least 2 people are using motorhomes as back up fridges!

I need to know if it’s the fridge in the motor home or if the motor home is cold enough to act as one giant fridge?!

OP posts:
JingsMahBucket · 23/12/2021 06:45

@Moaningturtle good point. I originally it was because the motor homes were cold enough themselves. I didn’t even think about the fridges in there! 😄
